I’m not a big nascar fan but just watched a Vice documentary about this track and this rebirth of this track is absolutely beautiful.

As a lifelong Wilkes County native, this absolutely warms my heart, brings a smile to my face, and almost brings a tear to my eye. That track sat on the side of US Highway 421 like a haunted house. A legendary track that's pretty much Ground Zero of NASCAR and is within spitting distance of my house, abandoned because of greed, sat alone and slowly fell apart for almost 30 years. And now, brought back from the dead thanks to efforts of Dale Earnhardt Junior, Governor Roy Cooper, the passionate residents of Wilkes County and the surrounding counties, and last but not least, the son of the man that sold the track in the first place, Marcus Smith. Thank you all so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! God bless you all 🥹🥹🥹

Amazing! Even with how much of a blowout the last stage was, it was still just spectacular to watch cars on such an old track and see so many fans happy to be there.

At least we heard it in 2020 All Star race at Bristol, and also in the 2022 Bristol dirt race.
i agree Mike Lajoy wouldnt shut his mouth long enough and ruined it for everyone one watching .
i grewup right down the street from this track used to ride my dirtbike around it....theyve really tuned this track up alot of hard work it was straight cracjks and grass
This was a pretty short race to be honest. When I saw kyle larson won I was confused because it had only felt like they were green for 100 laps or so🤷🏾♂️.I was hoping chase would somehow conjure up some momentum. Glad suarez had a chance to lead a few laps I guess his car wasnt good enough to compete with hendrick. Overall gelrewt choice by nascar to move the race to north wilkesboro.
200 laps is not a short race

@@UnholyBe4st You, me and the rest of the viewership. Terrible how they do not pay attention to their own broadcasters. Allowing thousands of people to miss out on one of the most important nuances of short track racing.
Fox missed great moment to help the viewers understand why these drivers are the top of their class. As a matter of fact…Fox owes the drivers & teams an apology as well.

Guess Wilkesboro is known for long green flag laps.
It actually was. The average race used to have only 5 or 6 cautions a race. But the racing product was great. Radial tires didn't show up till early 90's so they ran bias ply tires which would affect the handling of the cars to a degree that there was a lot of close quarters racing. And the compound was softer so tires would wear out fast which made for better racing.

NASCAR needs to race all 3 series at this track EVERY year. They should have never left in the first place.
They at least have the cup series and craftsman truck series coming up in May this year. They also recently announced the Whelen Modified Series is coming in October to North Wilkesboro. I'm almost certain they will add the xfinity series to next years schedule.

Race was boring. The new car’s short-track aero package is at fault. Not the track. 1000 HP would have been the solution to great racing. Short tracks aren’t fun anymore because of the current package.

They put too much on Larson's tires. He flew through the field better than all of the drivers with new tires. They fixed his car and he was just fast!
I don't get how some of these kids are claiming this is one of their favorite tracks when it was shut down well before they were even Born. That ranks up there in the Disrespectful category like claiming you are a military vet because you played a war sim. Son, just don't...
Add: For something a bit more thought inducing, when they were talking about wedge in the second half and the tire width, I'm doing armchair cloud math and the contact patch is barely as large as the average sports shoe (not the same shape naturally, but surface area on the ball of the foot).

Man, Nascar you have got to fix this car. Give these guys 800hp, bring back the softer, smaller tires, do away with the diffuser and splitter to take away downforce, and watch how fun these cars will be when they're racing. You have got to think about what made the sport grow and get as popular as it did. You doing the direct opposite and slowly killing the sport.
