    San-Ti is in the original Chinese novel before the English translation, which replaced the word with Trisolarian. In Chinese, San-Ti Ren means "three-body people," while Trisolarian refers to the three suns.

      I was gonna say this too haha. I had the same reaction at first, like why did they change the name? Then I learned thats the original word for them in Chinese. I think I like it better tbh

      @avvanama 2 місяці тому +3

      @@josephkatz1982 It's fitting. In the book, the event happened in China, so the translation would also translate the alien name. While here, the name is given in China but referenced in English. So the name persists.

    • @josephkatz1982

      @avvanama yeah I read the books. In English though... so I got used to trisolarin. Which does sound better than saying "three body people" in English lol. But san-ti makes more sense. And sounds cool

      @@josephkatz1982 funnily enough, in my language (Indonesian) the title is translated to 'Trisurya' which meant 'Trisolar' and not 'Three-body problem'. Now i'm curious what they call Trisolarian in Indonesian version, haven't read it

      The issue with the name Trisolaris is that Sol is the name of *our* star, the same way Earth is our planet. I kind of like the name San-Ti better with that in mind, even through I read the (English) books first.

    San-ti is the original name in the chinese books, before the English translation :)

    17:16 Yes, i think those ARE meant to be other players, as well as the two guys beside the pope in the cathedral. They're not role-playing like the NPCs, but acting like their normal selves. At least that's my take-away.

      Yeah, the two-handed flip-off, the trash talk (“take it like a man!” “suck it!” “troll”), etc. It all seems more like other real-life players rather than NPCs that have been programmed to act out of character.

    Raj's dad's story is relevant to the story as a whole. It relates to the situation between the Humans and the Alien's. So does Will's story about his conversation with his cancer.

    • @hazri8758
      @hazri8758 2 місяці тому +1

      Will's story about cancer, I can understand. They probably aren't evil, just trying to find some place to live. But what about Raj's dad's story? I still don't understand.

    • @spamfilter32
      @spamfilter32 2 місяці тому

      @hazri8758 in order to survive, one group must murder and take the resources of another. That is the moral of Raj's dad's story.
      In Will's story, Will represents Humans, and his body the earth. The cancer represents the Aliens. Will's moral is that we could make a place for the aliens to live with us. To share the body (earth) as it were.
      In Raj's story, the Afghan(?)'s represent Earth, and he is the Aliens, hiding and waiting to ambush Humans to take our resources back to his people so they can survive. Because if they don't kill us, then they die instead.

    It was true in GOT and true in this show. Often things have a double purpose. Innocent stories or jokes have another meaning. In GOT Bran tells a fireside scary story to the Reed kids and Hodor about the Rat King who violated guest protection and forced to eat his kids. Seasons later we see that story played out with two of the characters. In this show the cancer is one. I think the story Raj's Dad tells seems like another.

    The physical impossibility of the "reverse gravity" in the syzygy makes me wonder whether that is intentionally meant as an abstraction, since falling into the stars would look like the last world's end, or if this is a deviation from the book, or if it's a misunderstanding of mechanics by the author.

    Speaking of scrubbing people from surveillance cameras, you guys should watch Rising Sun (1993) with Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes. If we had that level of ability in the early 90's, how much better at manipulating video footage are we today!
