Honestly Fury in any Marvel title always feels like the big guy with secrets still left untouched. Even in Age of Ultron, at this point he's just a man with no agency to back him up, yet he still knows where to go, what to say, and have resources left
In the Captain Marvel, Nick Fury loses his eye when Goose scratches his face. In the comics he loses it during WW II when he's catches a live grenade and immediately tosses it. A piece of shrapnel from the explosion embeds itself in his eye. Fury decides to forgo surgery to repair it and wears a patch instead.

The reveal behind his eye in Captain Marvel was the equivalent of saying Furiosa lost her arm when she stuck it out of a bus window during a field trip.
Honestly, scenes like this are responsible for Nick fury just being one most bad ass characters I have ever seen. Man enters the building after everyone believed him dead, stared down the guy who tried to have him killed and outsmarted the entire hydra net work. And this man doesn’t even have super powers.
Nick doesn’t need a powers to show respect. When someone like him was the one who started the Avengers Initiative, then you know he’s a respectable man.
Then movies like Captain Marvel are responsible for brining the quality of the whole MCU down. Like having a perfect 5 star rating. It only takes ONE 2 star review to bring your 1,000 5-star reviews, 5 star rating, down to a 4.
Then: 99% of this comment section - how badass this scene is, theories on how he lost his eye Now: 99% of this comment section - Captain marvel / cat / flerken
I love that Pierce's reaction to Fury being alive is a smile and half a laugh. Like, "I did kill the guy, but I should have known better than to think something so mundane would keep him out of my hair." And he isn't even terribly upset by this. If anything, he's glad that he gets to try and prove his moral stance is superior to his secret nemesis's. He would probably have been more upset if he never got a chance to have this conversation, so when he realizes that he does have that chance he's genuinely happy.
I agree. I probably think it's also a smile of respect, like "game respects game" type scenario. Pierce was so cunning he orchestrated a Hydra takeover from within shield, but Fury was just as clever by faking his death so that this moment could happen and Hydra could be taken down.
@@CyberSonic-V3.0 to me that seems more like infection around the eye from the flerken scratch. @@san-tbandit1807 Hahaha, good one, Nick Fury losing his eye to a cat scratch. Imagine that being the origin story of his most famous visual identifier, aka, the eye-patch. That would be a fantastic joke for a parody or something. The idea that a Hollywood-level writer could genuinely work that into a script is just a hilarious thought on its own. Hehe.... he...
@@brightnessandcontrast7152 It also broke continuity, so it had that little gem going for it too. Fury directly says he lost his eye by trusting someone when he shouldn't have. @@mundodigital5676 The movie is garbage. It objectively is badly written and designed in almost every aspect. It is very low quality and the story is 10000% political communist propaganda.
Honestly the way this scene goes down makes it seem like Pierce was in some way responsible for Fury's eye. The way Nick says "You need to keep both eyes open" sounds deep cutting, like it was something Pierce said to Fury that has very personal meaning to both of them. "Last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye". It really makes it sound like a very grim and messy story, a mission gone south, two friends trapped behind enemy lines, doing what has to be done to survive, even if it means leaving one another for dead. Trust and betrayal, friendship and survival. Too bad Fury got scratched by a space cat instead.
Let's face it. Almost NOBODY is gonna take this scene as seriously as before after watching Captain Marvel. Even I don't get much of an emotional impact from this. Ok, maybe a little bit.
Oneseus Beh it was emotional before because he never took it off prior, we had a whole entire movie without his eyepatch which takes away the mysteriousness
@@thebeast1348 Yeah, don't get me wrong, it was epic seeing Fury take off his eye patch like that, basically declaring a checkmate on taking down Hydra. I'm just saying that there are probably gonna be a lot of memes and jokes about his whole eye situation after people saw what really happened in Captain Marvel.
Why? Because he lied about why he lost his eye? How does that change anything about this scene? If anything it sort of adds to his complexity. No one really knows Nick Fury. He keeps his cards close to his chest. Just like how he made the Avengers believe Coulson had those trading cards in his jacket. In Captain Marvel we got to see a different side to Fury, one that he tends to keep quiet.
@@pkattk That's why i said ALMOST. The reason why i said that some people won't take this as seriously as they did in the past is because they're probably going to turn the whole deal with his eye into a meme or something. But that's just my 2 cents. I'm not saying that the real reason why his other eye is all messed up is going to ruin his character or anything.
Do you realize that in the MCU, the literal explanation for Nick Fury's eyepatch is a fucking cat scratch. Holy cow, i feel like fucking killing myself every time I think about it.
Tamer Ciftci The drumming ant makes sense, given its been altered. Starlord dancing to distract Ronan also makes sense, especially for his character. Dead characters coming back to life? And when they've shown they're perfectly capable of knowing when not to do them, like Civil War, Black Panther, etc.? No, this sounds like you just don't like fun.
no they didn't. it's the reverse. he used to be funny, very busy- little serious (Iron Man 2), then very serious (Avengers 1, Capt America). it's called character development. you're just a little confused cos captain marvel was only released now and you're used to character developments that happen chronologically. but this could be a sign of more fury character developments moving forward. who knows.

While everyone else thinks they are watching Captain Marvel, my attention is on this scene. That little stare he gives when Fury not only reveals he still has both eyes, but that the damaged one is still stored in Shield’s database. I love it when the bad guys squirm.
Why did they ruin one of the best scenes in the MCU by showing that a cat scratched Nick Fury's eye? But still Winter Soldier remains the best MCU movie till date.
@Declan Everling yes, it was. yet in the moment it scratched Fury's eye it was in a form of a regular cat and the claw swipe it did wasn't something that a regular cat wouldn't be able to do. Meaning: It doesn't FUCKING matter that it was an alien. If it looks like a cat and acts like a cat...

@@tutumazibuko2510 I think they're complaining about how he lost his eye.

The way Nick says "You need to keep both eyes open" sounds deep cutting, like it was something Pierce said to Fury that has very personal meaning to both of them. "Last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye". Oneseus Beh that too
Why? Because he lied about why he lost his eye? How does that change anything about this scene? If anything it sort of adds to his complexity. No one really knows Nick Fury.
