Honestly, I think she did a great job. It still felt like a true Chanel show. I think it'll take a while for people to get used to it no longer being Karl, but I hope we can appreciate her too! :) Xx
If I didn’t know Karl passed, that would have been totally his style of doing Chanel. Chanel can be very frumpy and dated and both Virginie and Karl fixed that
A lot of her collections have tons of Karl references, not just that high collar, they also had bags here in the shape of a pillow Karl always traveled with.
I thought the same. Fashion is the main thing, not models. When Kendall and the others are there, it is like the clothes are in a second place and they are the main thing in the show.
this new Chanel is the beginning of something new and fresh for the house....Karl's spirit is Completely gone. He is actually gone from the clothes and I will miss that but it is a New beginning with a new Era....The New Chanel.
This whole collection screams Karl, first of all the classic flap with CC logo, and chain intertwined with leather is from Karl's time at Chanel since the 80s, people think Coco made that bag but she made a more plain looking 2.55 bag with a normal chain and no logos which other brands at the time also had. The fingerless gloves, the experimental 80s looking dresses, strong shoulders, the asymmetrical hems and cuts are 1000% Karl, very lightweight summer tweeds are also Karl, Coco's tweed jackets were described as heavy and stiff even by her own seamstresses. The only thing missing without him is a big grand vision and an over the top theme.
@@goldenglove4663 You're claiming everything he did is gone now when his staples are still there and now he has been cemented as part of the Chanel house heritage. Now the new designer references Karl and not just Coco. Even the recent haute couture show referenced Karl's huge library.
BRAVO! For me this was awesome, very chic, fresh, wearable, with a new touch but never losing the Coco's legacy. We know Karl was a genius but Virginie has all the skills to do this and she showed us that with this collection.
I agree, it is a simpler, more wearable Chanel. It doesn't have the complexities of Karl, but is that any bad thing? It certainly offers a new direction without having to get a celebrity designer. The chiffon pieces and asymmetric jackets are wonderful. Some key Chanel traits but just made more accessible.
Virginie did a great job, the collection is fresh, wearable, very Parisian. I only miss Karl´s touch but honestly bravo Virginie. The set is a bit simple :/
jonnyfendi2003 oh I see, I can’t wait to see her first couture show. And I think that she did a very realistic collection, I really want her to have fun with Chanel :)
@verdreaux calm down. It's cruise collection of course is gonna be more sporty and light collection. Be patient and wait for the couture and ready to wear, and then make a judgement
jonnyfendi2003 a lot of you keep saying that in the comments but seem to forget he was designing longer than Virginie has been alive. Right hand does = equivalent
It still has Karl's touch throughout the entire thing. The strong shoulder shapes, fingerless gloves, almost 80s experimental dresses, asymmetric jackets and hems . To me she is Karl light. Even the way she dresses isn't just a run of the mill woman, she dresses androgynously and sharp like Karl. The only thing missing is a grand vision that Karl always had.
For all negative comments there saying it's boring, too simple, Karl imitation, it's not Chanel bla bla bla... clearly you don't understand Chanel collection, Cruise is the most wearable collection so it supposed to be easy to wear. She worked with Karl for more than thirty years, she clearly knows Karl's vision in Chanel. But clearly can't please everyone, haters gonna hate.
Exactly! Virginie has been working at Chanel for nearly 30 decades, she knows the house and it's history better than every person here who are slamming this collection.
das hart it’s not about this. It’s about losing iconic. TBT nobody can replace Karl. There is nobody whose items from 1982 are as relevant today as they were when first designed. So he has staying power.
A new page in Chanel’s history, stripping off the theatricality of the sets and focusing on the clothes. I can see the legacy of both Coco and Karl and how she managed to merge both. I love how she opened with a look that’s more reminiscent of Coco herself and closed with a Karl doppelgänger, as a way to pay homage to both. Is off to a good start and I cannot wait to see where she sails this ship.
Danny Draait indeed, very! I’m gonna assume they skipped it out of respect and to start with a clean slate. Hopefully she’ll grasp the magnitude of the expectations and deliver.

Some may call the set simple, but I like how it showcases the existing beauty of the Grand Palais itself. This ‘pure form’ translates excellent to the collection. Not to mention the structure of the palace is already similar to a railway station.
I came in expecting to be disappointed, but this is absolutely stellar! She did a fantastic job, it really reminded me of the shows from the mid/late 2000's which is a huge compliment. And if we're really being honest, it's better than anything Karl has done in YEARS... yeah i said it...
I am,impressed with the emergence of the soft feminine styles a deviation from the tailored look and the looser pants away from the skinny and leggings bottoms and then too no jeans. Looking dressed up is back.just for a change can be wonderful.
@R RQ But Karl is the one who established all that groundwork, solidified and added to the codes. Look at the Karl & YSL documentary where even Coco's old seamstresses are amazed at Karl's reinvention of the brand whereas before even they thought Chanel was a dead old house with tired clothes no one wanted to wear. And you're also wrong, we have mountains of evidence of Karl's sketches, and Virginie making sure they're executed correctly. Obviously they probably had accessories designers and other things but Karl was the conductor of the orchestra.
I wonder if the people saying how much they’re going to miss Karl are the same ones that used to comment how boring Chanel had become and that the only significance of his shows were the runways than the clothes themselves. What a great CRUISE line!
Exactly! Karl was great but his last few collections were a but samey, a little repetitive. Virginie brought a complete new look for Chanel. She created a new Chanel woman with this collection. Can't wait to see what she has in store for the Haute Couture and Pret a porter collections.

Virginie and the Chanel family did a great job. I cannot imagine the gravity of responsibility, expectations, and missing their dear friend. Am wholly rooting for you, Virginie! Well done.
This show was good for a cruise show. It was very simple and you can see her use of much simpler fabrics. It's not Karl and within time we will see if she can sustain the house. My opinion she will need to bring bit more splendor and a sense a opulence to her shows it's what Chanel is. It's what Chanel has become.
Sophisticated, feminine and eccentric.. That's the message behind this creation... Virginie Viard seems to have mastered the idea combining both masculine and feminine elements in her creation, without getting too much like a "male" look, a minuscule of ribbon top as a strong illustration of how one can be still feminine and chic, outside her tweed jacket and long pants.. all mid heels shoes symbolised an eccentric energy, a sophisticated chic. I can't help but to like the lady in 4.23, she seems so well fit with the whole look, her hair and the overall is perfectly feminine but not too much. X
Laura N What? The woman worked with Karl Lagerfeld for more than thirty years. I think she knows Lagerfeld's influence and aesthetic quality. Stop being negative and condescending towards her.

Very simple, chic, and I can see the references back to Coco herself. I just wish the collection was a little less seriously presented as these are undoubtedly wearable, colourful, and fun everyday clothes. I love the reintroduction of the Chanel water bottle holder also, very Clueless. One thing that is lacking is some flair, experimentation, and that will come later with hope. The only issue is adjusting to the minimal set, it just seems incredibly stark.

So beautiful Virginie. Brava. Many trends to take to the next season but also timeless. Divine shoes and accessories. Sleek simple hair. Waist bag perfectly designed
LOVED this collection it feels fresh , easy and in line with today. I also thought it was a nice breather from all the other overdone collections that are being presented last season and with the resort season so far. . Where Coco was a modernist and Karl was a Post-modernist, Virginie is what some are calling a pseudo-modernist , where it emphasizes participation in society, culture technology, and politics. That may explain the different types of Chanel women being shown and silhouettes ( wide pants vs leggings vs floaty dresses ). I picture her more more in line with like a Phoebe Philo where she is designing for herself and what she wants to see women wearing today. Also I like that the hair and makeup was natural and different on all the women walking not one encompassing look. I still Love Karl ( he inspired got me into fashion when I was younger in the 90s ) but I love the new beginning looking forward to seeing what she does... whew! That was a mouthful hahaha!

I like those entire collection.. good job ... theyre simple both elegan same time like coco channel ..
Its okay Its a good read 😊
@@AquaMarino Thanks..too funny.. it will take her a good year to figure out her woman.
