- Heeramandi's costumes spark a debate: should film fashion be historically accurate, or can designers take creative liberties?
#Heeramandi #ManishaMalik #Netflix #SanjayLeelaBhansali #historicalaccuracy #bollywoodcostumes
The way Bhansali created the mesmerizing beauty in this series, I think no one can do it better
Agree
Yaaa❤❤❤❤
No matter what series is nice awesome applouds
You think right !
Glorifying rapist and rape yeah no one can do better. This isn't a true story.
There's a difference between film and documentary
waah kya baat hai
That's exactly what I came here to wrote ugh 😂
I will only watch Grand Production that SLB normally makes.❤
What if the casts were americans? it still wont matter?
@@danielcharles6088 Ben Kingsley played Gandhi, and won an Oscar for it. I know he's half-British, not American as you have said, but no one really objected to it even though he wasn't Indian. Aladdin, a film set in a fictional place that we know is somewhere in the Middle East, had American and British actors, and not much objection was raised.
80% historical accuracy 20% creative liberty 😊
No 100% creative liberty 😊
@@sankalpchourasia1402kaise?
It is actually 5% accuracy and 95% lie (creative liberty)
M disagree
The real photos look quite similar to many Heeramandi costumes
If its on Netflix than its for entertainment therefore it has all kind of liberty. Ifs its on discovery channel than its a documentary and has to be accurate.
Thats not very helpful
People take a lot more seriously than you think. Think about how many people think that corsets were painful and caused fainting because of movies like gone with the wind, or the amount of people who think bridgerton costumes are accurate.
Too much creative liberty can cause widespread misinformation.
Theres a saying in software testing/engineering. However dumb you think people are, theyre dumber
Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of heeramandi
Lmao
😂😂
Heeramandi's colour pallet has inspired and taught me more about colour pallets and themes , as an artist
I personally love Bhansali took his creative liberty. Historically accurate is roo boring. I love and watch every movie of his bcz of the costumes and attention to detail.
So distort the history to fit the movie ?
@@yogitaneole8632I guess history is much more than Costume designs
boring...? my oh my do you even know what women have to go through in historic heeramandi.... gurl get a life don't say its boring just because its historically accurate
not everything is Sanjay Leela bhansali's glamorised vision
heeramandi was hell for women worker don't belive in bollywood
boring...? my oh my do you even know what women have to go through in historic heeramandi.... gurl get a life don't say its boring just because its historically accurate
not everything is Sanjay Leela bhansali's glamorised vision
Pls post about Sanam Teri Kasam’s styling secrets…it’s an underrated movie which also deserves mentions like these 🥹✨
Agree
Exactly.
Yes
Agreed
Creative liberty is must. I dont pay for history lectures.
Yes we want epic wars in jeans and T shirts
Imagine battle of panipat in those 😂
@@tusar7864Creative Liberty does not need to change the clothing entirely 🤦🏻♀️
@@kpopcafei5806 he said he doesn't need history lectures so 😁
@@tusar7864 That too will be delicacy to our mind.
Take creative liberties! Loved the costumes!
No. Historical Accuracy is way better. Everyone should be proud of their history ❤
I jst love the costumes. it was not a documentary!
Yes, Bhansali put detail in anything but cast his Talentless Neice , who threw tantrum and misbehaved with crew
And the costumes are not supposed to be accurate cuz afterall it's the Bhansali's series so we always have the highest expectations that it would be the most visually appealing thing and that exactly what he did ❤❤❤❤
Historical accuracy is more important than following a certain aesthetic. More so when a certain culture is being represented. Period dramas relay information about a culture too, and its important to show a culture as it was, not what you would want it to be.
lol 😂
It's not a documentary, this is fiction. Artistic liberty is just as important. Makes a series much more enjoyable. If I want to learn about Heeramandi's real facts, I can just read Wikipedia, why make a series about it? The series is for entertainment
@@Himanshu_Singh793 I agree. Artistic liberty is important ; but the press and media have a duty to relay correct information and represent cultures as they really are. No one likes their culture being misrepresented or diluted just to pander to more viewers.
Wikipedia might be a good place to start and guide a researcher to better resources, but shouldn't be used as a conclusive or definitive text.
@@guneetk28exactly
Historic details specifically about the accuracy of costumes can be looked up online if one desires to see that the aesthetics added an exceptional beauty to the series so creative liberty was definitely necessary plus he didn't polish, these costumes could look fake and too shiny but they look perfect with a certain amount of rustic nature to them.
He's not making a documentary...ofc the creator will left his mark on his creation!
It's not a biopic, it's just a fictional work entertainment just enjoy move on
It's 60% reality and 40% fiction
It is true that tawaifs from heeramandi took part independence movement in revolt against Britishers
Kuch to log kahenge, logo ka to kaam hi hain kehna 😑 costume acchi nahi lete to bolte k kharcha nahi kiya, aur zyada acche bana diye to bolte h k itihaas badal diya 😂
Period films and dramas should be somewhat historically accurate, yes. BUT, I surely did not expect a Bhansali series to be that. I have always watched his work just for the sets and costumes lol. Aishwarya’s saree and blouses from devdas, deepika’s lehenga cholis from ram leela, mastani’s sharara ghararas and massive glamorous haveli and mahals are just Bhansali’s thing. And I enjoy that. U don’t get to see those anywhere else so it was fine for me.
historical accuracy is important because its represent the era n speciality of the that time trends important asper availability n economic standard etc
Too glamourous???? There's nothing called 'Too Glamourous' ........ When it comes to Glamour, More is Less!!!! ❤
Entertainment is something which should make u feel heavenly ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ all good as long as eyes enjoy watching 😍😍😍
Mani Ratnam ,, perfect, perfect and the most perfect to create Beauty,,,with very little makeup,,just with natural look,,and nature.
At the end of the day Bhansali movies just have costumes and aesthetics! I’ve never seen interesting story line or great plot line, realism or realistic acting. just loads of jewelleries, dramatic actors, costumes and dances. Aesthetically pleasing set is great besides a good storyline and great team of actors.
Heera mandi costumes and actresses were stunning 😍. Loved it!!!
This is was advertised as an historical fiction. Which means we need elements of history but there’s obviously openness to creative liberty. Sort of like the Bridgerton series
70 percent facts 30 percent crative liberty😊
Yep
J
Yes. The fashion should stay accurate in the movies. We see the contemporary styles and modern dresses, everywhere else.
i dont mind some minor historical inaccuracy but nothing should be misrepresented. for eg the way corsets are shown in some foreign media is so wrong compared to the way they were actually used. the audience shouldnt learn wrong things
For a moment Leave these costumes and directors
I just want to clap 👏👏 for your efforts ma'am!!
Keep going!!
Heeramandi can only be watched for its costumes and sets, otherwise the serie is bakwas.
Oh...okay maybe u hate watching girls protecting thier country
@@Manlit2937example de do beta
Directors and designers can have creative liberty …..SLB work is more like larger then life we all know that .
Team creative Liberty all the way
It was all worth it...each detailing...they all together transport the audience to the time.
I watched this for another reason -stunning dresses n makeup..wow
Same brooooooooooo❤❤❤
It's Best presentation of past .. with detailed study .... inspiring.. combination of accuracy and creativity ❤
Art has no boundaries as long as it is respectful. So yes the costumes came out beautiful just like a live painting ❤
If it’s a period drama it should be historically correct so we as a generation of ppl who know nothing about our own culture have the correct information … movies more than books influence us these days
No but if you are showing a past incident or something related to freedom fighters, you cannot change it bcz it will change the whole concept then
Love your series and short videos! So I am in LOVE with Heramandi. It’s fabulous. It’s fantastic. It’s an escape into a dream world where the characters are larger than life. It was exciting and thrilling to watch. The costumes are BREATHTAKING. SLB king of sparkles haha love it. So haters are gonna hate. I appreciate! Haha ❤ I loved the urdu dialogues. I loved the drama. Ok maybe some of the acting like Alamzeb could have been more full of life but Manisha the Queen stole the show! Sonakshi and Aditi amazing. People who are saying it’s fake it’s not accurate it’s this and it’s that should take a step back and remember it’s art, it’s theatre, it’s supposed to take us the viewers away on a journey and captivate us! It certainly did for me!
Adaab Arz hai 🫴🏽
Beauty at its best , loved the new creation 😍😍😍 it's film and we need to enjoy every second of it unless it's a documentary
Any story to get good audience need to be present beautifully n glued so i guess job done perfectly.
I appreciate accuracy. Rekha in Umrao Jaan comes to mind
Those saris are so beautiful, the delicate hands of those women who did the work is with love. The fabric wraps elegant around her, and as she stands in a picture frame.I think every woman should have one.I have some that a friend brought from India from there trip.
None of bhansali's movies are historically accurate either it's heeramandi or bajirao mastani
It is important to show accurate things when it comes to history bcz ppl remember the same whole of this lives so showing correct history is important here in thus case
Reality would be boring bt detailing is more creative
What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Historical accuracy with fashion Liberty i would prefer both ❤
Jb real story based hai to sb real hona chahiy
Nahi chahiye , kyunki yeh fiction hai
Location real h, story nhi. Story fictional hai.
History is already beautiful but adding ur own touches can be great too☺️
I can certainly see the value of allowing for creative/artistic liberties, beautiful things are enjoyable to look at! But I wish there was more room in the world (not just Bollywood, but film in general) for movies that do aim to show me a snapshot of history through storytelling (as opposed to documentary). Because both ideas have merit! But there's a lot more liberty-taking films than snapshot-y films.
They all look so prettyyyyy😩🦋✨
The outfits are amazing. The designers are true artists. It showed how talented & beautiful India is to the world. This is not a documentary, so not depressing.
perhaps the comparison is not fit for this particular case, but this reminds me of Bridgerton, and the appeal of aesthetics over historical accuracy envisioning a particular viewing experience that enhances the romantic and glamorous, almost fantasy like aspects of the series. It might not fit everyone's tastes and expectations, but it is creative and purposeful, fitting the creators goals and visions and not exactly remaining in the confines of accurate representation of a culture in a specific time period.
also, I did not know of this particular series, and it looks amazing. you are so right, every frame looks like a fantastical, pretty, detailed painting.
I love this dialogue
Ek bar dekh lijiye deewana bana dijiye literally goosebumps
Heeramandi is just a beautiful series in every manner
Must be almost historically accurate
At least the galis and protest scenes
They easily looked so plastic!!
It's not a documentary. Neither is Devdas or bajirao mastani or padmavat 100% accurate. U can never be no matter how much research u do, u can never be fully accurate unless u yourself existed in that era. Also the designs are stunning.
@@tettirdatta5671 I never mentioned 100%
But some scenes could've been close to colonial times, my opinion.
Creative liberties shouldn't erode the historical essence..
So for me maintaining the historical aesthetics in such movies is a must..!!
Historical Costumes represent cultural values of an era and no one like a black and white drama in coloured version.
But Bhansali is Bhansali so
Go on
Bhansali is a great director
!!!
His work is impeccable and mesmerizing but
Anurag kashyap's portrayal of characters with a realistic touch and presenting it on screen with its raw nature is totally a different thing .
He picturize the raw and animalistic traits of human through his characters which is totally relatable to certain backgrounds, storyline and characters in a more realistic way. He too completely does justice with the storyline, picks up the caste wisely and puts song and dialogues accordingly and beautifully.Which is the beauty of his great understanding towards Art and cinema.
Bhansali sir is too unmatchable.
They belong to two different genre of cinema.
Their style of direction and the starcaste is unique in itself.
So both are good in their own way!!
Both have critics and admirers.
It depends entirely on director's vision , it doesn't matter ....if he doesn't claim it to be real , then he can show anything which is set in his world setting ...realistic does not mean more meaningful and good than imagination ...otherwise we wouldn't have Jurassic park
Its ok the creators take creative liberty.
Im only seeing the cast n crew's hard work. Felt fresh n satisfied by watching this type production other then reveiling heroines and super powered heroes.
Great videos!! 🎉🎉 I'm not from India and still learning about this beautiful country, and its obvious to me that this series is not historically accurate, it's creativity with a specific aesthetics with history inspirations, as she mentions here
Glad you enjoyed it!
Creative liberty is really important.
It's lovely to see bhansali's depiction... But the real take would be good too... Like in Shyam Benegal's Mandi.... It doesn't make one feel detached from reality
Authenticity is overrated...
As a history buff, balance is key. It's important to represent the period well, but that's all you need to do. Anything more is really just adding to it in a good way, but not doing it is also not bad. The point of costumes in media is not just having something that fits the themes, but also the characters.
It depends whether it's fictional or an actual incidence being portrayed. For fiction it's completely upto them how do they portray their creativity depending upon the genre the film is based upon. But for documentaries, exaggeration and glorification should be avoided, as it will imprint a wrong representation of the past which isn't appreciated.
Doesnt have to be its a movie for entertainment, entertain yourslef, have a group chat about it, laugh, cry, sing, dance and move on.
I don't believe hardly anything was the same as real heeramandi but that's Bansali. We enjoy the glamour in this movies
History & liberty both can co-exist, a beautiful example of that is Mohenjodaro. The designers can use their creativity more in fantasy or dramatic movies which lacks good fashion nowadays.
The costumes are a treat to the eyes❤
I never herd this before ,who are those some people ...I dont know ,now after seeing this video now many will start talking about it😂😂😂😂😂
Story should be accurate, other details can be creative by taking traditions into the consideration. ❤
He has written clearly in the beginning that it's fictional. Hence, the director has the liberty to bring his vision to the screen.
Also, it's not a documentary but a series. It has to look visually attractive too.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali knows people come to reel life from their real lives...so gives them the best of magic in every frame...it's called Paisa Vasool...
Comment on Scenic, creativity and costume..script or role etc each movie has its own review and challenges
The costumes are outstanding
All Bhansali creations are always stunning. I love to watch it for the beauty of it.
no one can do better then sanje Lila bansali❤
I was amazed looking at the fabric and varieties of embroidery on them...! 😍
Bhansali can make tawaif to be queen, I love this
People who complainin about the fashion choices...like do they think that masses will watch if it is too much historically accurate? Filmmakers like Bhansali is clever. He knows his audience. He knows the masses.
Something i realize in the dance. First of all its not tje walk that captured most of our hearts. Because its a usual walk for many women. Its tje turning part with holding that cloth and the way she shake her head and tje way her eyes moves to the music.
He did his thing,, fine. But I really wanna see the historically accurate one from some other directors. Because, this has created a fantasy world in my head about heeramandi to the point I can't understand which part was creative liberty. So I need a real one to compare . Plus such a movie would be fire✨
Please make a series regarding to be a future costune designer
Steps we need to take after 12th
Best colleges
And more
Bollywood is glamorizing and capitalizing the suffering of those poor women of history
I feel the time is long gone when people watched movies for to know reality,, these days your content and execution needs to be top notch, if not, at least take one thing and make it extraordinary for which viewers will get drawn to watch it,, for Heeramandi it was the star cast and the beautiful setup…
No need to be accurate. People loved costumes and jewellery which were shown in the series
"Phool raheen sarson sakal ban."
It means 'the mustard seeds are blooming, becoming gross" if im not wrong. tiny details like the dress being held up as Mallikajaans mehendi/henna dries, symbolizing a sense of greatness, but yet, since her dress was held up only in that scene, it means that the greatness she held in that moment was temporary. Wow. A lot has gone into this.
I hope they show how Heeramandi transitioned in to bollywood or their daughters became Bollywood starlets later, like the social implications of that too. The way we see actresses today is so drastically different from yesteryears because of their association with places and origin stories like that of heeramandi. And while today actresses are far more respected but it speaks volumes why many opt to be second wives because the stigma is still there to some extent.
I want to watch movies or series for running a little bit from the day to day reality. It means I prefer creativity because reality we already know how it looks like.
When we talk about films, they cater to a larger audience size than a daily soap, so creative liberty should be minimal whilst sticking to historically true details. Eg. The movie 'Mummy' would have probably been called out had they shown Anck Su Namun with little to no clothing ...
Besides, we have had such beautiful history of film making where costume designing has been thought out after keeping audience sensibility in mind. Movies in 60s were so beautifully styled that had they been released in colour alike Mughal-e-Azam, they would have set an example for costume designing even today.
Every film maker has his or her signature style or pattern of the process of film making....
So this is Bhansali film.... So it is portrayed his way....
Eye for accurate details is Bhansali's forte....
I watch all his movies just because i know it will be a feast to the eyes. Its not a documentary to be historically accurate.
I loved heeramandi
I liked it because of the costumes and and the luxury fabrics they used. It almost looked like a dream. It would have been boring if they used actual outfits from back in the days.
Historical details are important but why not add aesthetics to it when there's liberty to do so, the fact that lays is the characters truly own the costumes they wear ❤
Sanjay is the God of Culture, Art, Music, Storyline and Painting like effects. I think this series is wonderfully done. No questions about it. He put all the pieces correctly. Honestly I would love to critique but I just can’t he leaves no room for any improvement. The whole series is Perfection 100% ❤. Very nicely done.
I heard a lot of trolling about how he casted his niece as Alam, that girl does look like 15-18 year old,I would have casted her for that role too. She is naive and bit emotionless whatever big deal. She is much too young. Aditi is mature looking and strong and beautiful, what a perfect choice for freedom fighter. I agree with SLB every choice n move.
Bansali did a great job in the Heramandi series it is extremely super good each actor did the traffic job. Alamzeb's character suits Sharmin Some faces have less expressions that doesn't mean they don't know the acting. look around you in our daily life some faces less expressions. She did what her character wants to be because she isn't part of the environment she belongs to.❤
Thank you Mr. Bansali you are rock.
I hope you get the message.
I think some things historically are interesting but when you’re making a show or movie, the fashion is just as much a part of the action as everything else and you have to keep the audience engaged. We love to see glamour and excess on TV
Visually stunning compared to other movies of our country and others but not reliable.
I have to watch this twice..bcz first time i was sticked to jewellery and the dress😂😂😂
