As the most popular movie franchise in history, the images of these particular actors playing these iconic roles are pretty etched into our brains at this point. We see Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, or Chris Evans as Captain America. But things were almost very, very different. Sure, a lot of actors probably auditioned for these main character roles, but did you know that a lot of actors in the MCU actually originally auditioned to play another part? Like, they went in expecting to be something else, but then, for whatever reason, an audible was called and now they’re locked in as the character we know and love.
In this video, we’ll dive into a bunch of different instances where an actor auditioned for a different role other than the one they ended up portraying in the MCU. There’s a lot of people involved in this franchise, with a lot of big names playing a lot of memorable characters, so it’s fascinating to see what could have been. What would the MCU be like if someone else was Captain America? Or if someone other than Robert Downey Jr ended up playing Iron Man? Would these movies have taken off the way they did or seen the same type of success? Who knows! But it’s fun to think about what could have been, and what ALMOST was. Here are Marvel actors who auditioned for a different MCU role!

@Snehil Shrey I'm not basing it on who the person is. I'm basing it on how well that person did their job. A lot people who auditioned ended up with the roles that suited them better. Why is it soo important that I need to know who the person is for me to noticed a job well done. I can't imagine Chadwick as Drax and I can't imagine Chis Pratt as Captain America. But they still ended up with roles that was perfect for them. And the person who did the casting didn't forget about them either even after a few years had passed and called them as soon as they heard of role suited to their talents perfectly. Technically I do know who person is, you do too if you go back and watch the video the names of each person who was doing the casting name was mentioned. Like how Chris Pratt was mentioned to James Gunn.

I love Jake Gyllenhaal as an actor. And he would have made an amazing Dr Strange i think.
But playing Quentin Beck actually fits better because it is a more in depth personality which suits him. I love the characters he/movies he picks. They always have multiple layers to them. ❤❤❤

Fun fact: there was consideration for doing a Sherlock joke in Infinity War. But the writers decided that it would be "too cheap" to include in the film.

For me Chris Pratt fits super well into the starlord role simply because of the character he played on parks a rec
What gets me mad is no one acknowledges where Pratt actually started, on Everwood. Yes its from 2002 - 2006, but it was a great show. It was a drama too. I knew he was a good actor before I knew he was funny.
I think, based on many interviews I've watched with Mr. Pratt, that Starlord is very similar to who Chris P is irl. Just silly&fun. And I bet he's super loyal too.
It never ceases to amaze me how amazing Marvel is at their casting. It really is impossible to see anyone else in the majority of these roles, especially the headliners, RDJ as T. Stark, Chris Evans as Cap, Chris Pratt as Starlord. Honestly is there a role more perfect for Pratt than Starlord? The best in my mind though is Chadwick Boseman as T'Chala and Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange. These two characters are so powerful and are played so well by these men it really makes the movies.
Imagine the character of Thor&Loki being interchanged with the other.

In one of the other universe it is, and it's normal for them for Tom to be Thor and Chris as Loki and for them if it switched it would be weird for them.

Bucky in First Avenger is my favorite iteration of Bucky if we are counting each movie as different iterations.

I think what was meant is, that Sebastian Stans a bit too dark interpretation of Captain America in the casting fits the role of the Winter Soldier better. Bucky wasn't the Winter Soldier in the first CA movie, but that they casted Stan as Bucky with him playing the Winter Soldier in the next movie in mind. Which makes totally sense in my opinion.

The video at 5:53 he says, " still she was impressed by what she saw and suggested Stan play the role of Bucky Barnes in their NEXT Captain America installment." I get what you mean though it makes sense, but if they said "Stan for the role of the Winter Soldier in their next Captain America installment" it would've cleared it up better. Yeah sorry for intruding.
I believe these casting mixups are one of the inspirations of Marvel's What If Series. Chadwick can finally play a role in the Guardians of the galaxy universe. R.I.P

Chris Evans, having played jock and jerk roles before, could have also played Starlord well, but his resting face suits Steve Rogers well.
Everyone's like it's uncomfortable to see the person playing as the character they auditioned for, but if they did, at that time, you would still get used to it and it won't be uncomfortable.
And it wouldn't have been as massive as the casting choices Marvel Studios has made.
They all ended perfect to each character! Wisest decisions ever. Every character is perfectly interpreted and fit well their personalities and physical attributes.

That moment when Robert was so damn good as Tony Stark/Iron Man, he not only became the perfect fit for the role but he also reshaped Iron Man and Tony as a whole would be like in comics proceeding his debut.
