Would you consider making a video addressing the proper lighting setup for an amateur sculpture studio?

Oh yeah I like that idea 💡 I’ll try to do that sometime soon.

Thanks! Hope it works for those who try it. Mold making is tricky for sure.

Thank you for that. Even with missing footage, it's still very clear and easy to understand.
I'm so glad I watched this... I've seen molds done in the past, but NOT with easily accessible materials like silicone caulk and fabrics, so I always kind of decided mold making was not an option for me.
I bought monster clay a while back and love working with it, but since it doesn't cure and I couldn't afford expensive silicone to make a mold, I've been overwhelmed and not creating. I'm so re-inspired by this and am definitely going to attempt your mold making technique.. plus, I already have all of these things on hand!
Not sure if this tip will come in handy for anyone, but I learned that you can "water down" silicone caulk with mineral spirits (making it more liquid), which might help get it into detailed places on that first layer.. (I've seen youtube videos of people making waterproof tarps from sheets like this.)

Yeah mold making can definitely get expensive fast but I’ve enjoyed this method (though there’s almost always some mistake I make when mold making it seems so I have to get good at repairing and fixing as I go)
Good tip with the mineral spirits! I haven’t tried that. I wonder if it effects the integrity of the silicone at all. Let me know how it goes with your molds!

Hi Andrew, I'm a bit confused during the part where you make the plaster mother mold. You seem to do it in layers but in my experience cured plaster doesn't adhere to recently created plaster at all. I'm wondering is there a particular type of plaster that you use that adheres to itself?

to get the plaster to adhere you can do the second layer right after the first layer sets up (and is still warm and moist) or you can spray the first layer with a spray bottle to make sure it is wet before adding another layer. What keeps the layers from sticking is dry plaster that soaks up the water from new plaster preventing a good bond.
