Ultra Mode is a patch that you can apply to the game. What it basically does is double the amount of bullets, double their speed, both, or something else. This makes for a fun challenge most of the time and sort of gives you a difficulty above lunatic.
There are patches for almost all the Windows games and they can be downloaded here:

(Unzip the thxxu.zip in the game folder and patch the Japanese thxx.exe).
Yes, the patch gives you autobombs if you're curious.
New patch came out for 1.00c. Things changed were various patterns, much faster level pacing and much harder overall difficulty.

Scratch that the newest version is almost the same as in the video again.

Amazing... I have learned a lot from the my self dubbed pinnacle 3 of Touhou (you (Jaimer), raak, and sadisticpenguin...) But I don't think I can ever get to this level, though I can try XD (Beaten 2 extra bosses only so far, Koishi and Mamizou I have a long road ahead XD) Yet, this road...somehow seems fun. :P Thanks for the the everlasting inspiration to continue pushing forward!

Version 1.00c of the game, which fixed a bug in the original release where capturing a certain spell card (Mamizou's survival card, I think) would crash the program.

@forlani Actually, the graze count, even in ULTRA Ten Desires, is much lower than a standard 1cc of SA lol. It's not really surprising but... yeah. SA is so divine

Wow, now Score Desire Eater really does look impossible to capture, unlike the "normal" Lunatic version, which is merely just difficult.
@Pretztailfan95 Actually it was pretty easy, it only took me 2 trys to 1cc it on normal. ZUN reduced the difficulty for new players in this one. This patch was created for older much more experienced players who wanted it to be harder.

Indeed I beat PCB on my first try (shouldn't have chosen Sakuya though >_>) and i can do EoSD semi-consistently now. Probably gonna LP that soon.

Generally, I'd trust that Jaimers knows when to bomb or not, but in thsi instance he's said the game does have autobomb.

I was wondering why I could only barely get past stage 3 on amazing runs while you 1cc'd the thing... until I realized I'm playing the 1.00c version.

seeing as you have done all the overdrives, what do you think are easier: lunatic versions of a card or the overdrive versions, or does it depend?
@RobinLSL Actually, Ultra mode is excellent practice so it's anything -but- wasting time. :P
But yeah, 1.00c is pretty nuts. The earlier Touhous are a lot more doable though if you want to go and try for a few Ultra 1cc's. PCB is by far the easiest.

You know, the patch doesn't give autobomb by default there is two different setups for using it and not using it.
Yeah. Miko's overkill. I mean, DOUBLING the speed of Guse Flash?! And her nonspells looked like hell.
However, Ultra mode does show the true nature of the patterns, and allows you to beat them more easily.

Most video game hacks include extra lives and things to make the games easier...Touhou ignores that and has sets of hacks that make the games harder. Defying logic is what all the cool people do.

It's kinda strange that in 1.00c version Guse Flash and Newborn Divine Spirit look much easier than in your run (Guse flash looks exactly the same as regular lunatic). See my video of that.
I couldn't go beyond 100,000 Value on Easy Mode.
Now if we could get patch to multiply enemies by 10...
Some modifications are kinda useless (Seiga mostly shoots many still bullets, yay) and some bullshitty (yay, Futo walls), but it's still impressive most of the time, especially for Yoshika and Miko.
Your playtrough is impressive, through. I wouldn't be reassured in those miko's nonspells.

What does 1cc mean?
As far as I know, 1cc means completing the game with no continues. Sure, you can bomb or die, but as long as you can do it with no continues, you've done a 1cc. I think.

No, he uses autobombs, right before he dies, a bomb is autoused so that he doesn't lose actual lives, therefore increasing the number of lives to around 20 through the whole game.

Complaining about ten desires' difficulty being too low and using an autobombing cheat. Wow.
It'd be perfectly finish-able without autobomb (probably)
The reason it's there, imo, is so you can actually watch people focus on dodging the crazy patterns instead of seeing people bomb every attack because it'd be the only way to clear without.
For the record, this isn't just an autobombing patch. This is the Ultra patch, which makes the game insane but gives you autobombs to get past the game which you wouldn't have enough resources to clear otherwise. That is especially true in this game, where the original patterns were easy but you had limited resources.

You think I didn't know that? :V It's why I made the original post in the first place! It'd probably be possible for the best (think Jaimers level) to do the ultra patches WITHOUT auto bomb, it's just there because, to be honest, it'd be more fun to watch then otherwise because it'd just be bomb-spam everywhere and resource management 101.
