  • Lancer is sitting on the patio when she sees Dad flying in with a fish! She quickly heads back to the nest and then takes off chasing after him. Dad will touch down with a live flying fish and Lancer is hot on his tail - but he takes off with the fish in his talons. In regular time and slomo. You can see the wings of the flying fish spread out when he is leaving! The cam panned to the left and when it came back we see Lancer eating the fish - so apparently Chase circled back and did the drop and go!
Lancer enjoys her fish and eats the whole thing including the wings. When she was younger, she would not eat them but now she eats the whole fish. Lancer will head back over to the patio afterwards to digest her meal. Thank you for watching!

Instead of swooping in the water for the fish, the fish jumped right into Mom's grasp Food is always great when you get it delivered. Bon appetite 🐟

Yes, I do think that, too!
      But, then I ponder.... 🤔
How would God have made this planet and all the living things, and, not provide a constant food source?
So, if, at the beginning, food didn't grow or be born, then, He would have needed planets full of freezers to feed us all these many years. Lol!
      Have a great day! 😻

Lancer.... "Hey, where ya goin', with my fish?" 🐟🐠
"Didn't you see me flagging you in??"
    Later on...Lancer...
"Hello! How can I get a second helping?"
A 😋 yummy treat for daddy's little girl!
And, another stellar entry in the screaming 😱 contest!
TYLH! 😻 Harriet always loves the tails. She'd be in 7th Heaven with a flying fish! 😍

What a great scream fest! Dad may be a bit of a drama king, but he has the best dramatic flair!! I'm gonna always be looking for the 'rock gift' from Lancer and, was so pleased to see her use it to clean her beak after dinner👀😂
I know Chase probably does spoil his baby girl.. But there's no one on this site that would ever object 😍‼️

I always laugh when the parents eat the fish tails, after feeding 😋 their chicks, because, I know it won't be long before the "babies" will be wanting that part too!
In this case, wings and tail! Double delight! Lol!
Lots of trace minerals and such in the tails and bones of the fish.
And, the squirrel tails that they down acts as a brush and cleans the crop.
      Amazing!!
      Be blessed! 😇

@@CuriousCat787, Wow! Thank you for that info. I hadn't given a lot of thought about them eating the wings or tails except hoping they wouldn't choke on the bones or get any caught in their throat. I have given a little more thought to seeing them gulp down an entire fur coat with the occasional tail. Like, "How do they do that?" How can they digest that and expel it later?" But, never did I think of it (tail) as a sort of whisk broom! Sincere thanks, CuriousCat!! Bless you and yours! ❤

The parts that they don't digest for nutritional purposes are expelled in the form of a pellet, that they spit up.
Birds that have a crop, can get food down quickly into that storage area, so they are able to grab and run. Also, they don't have to eat every day, as they are basically carrying a picnic basket along with them. Lol!
As they need it, they do a 'crop drop', which is moving the food from the storage (crop) into the digestive system.
You can sometimes see them doing that as there is a neck motion associated with that process.
Wouldn't that be nice to have?
Eat what you can get your hands on and it only registers on your hips as you slowly use it or expel a pellet! Lol!
But, the down side is that when they do over-stuff their crop it can affect their flight. So, they lazy around in food comas, like we all do on a holiday, until the food moves along.
      Have a blessed day ❣️

@@CuriousCat7, Thank you for furthering my education! The more videos I watch the more I learn. As the saying goes, "You're never too old to learn." And, the more I learn the more fascinating these birds become.
I spend quite a bit of my free time watching every video Lady Hawk posts. On occasion when a friend stops by I stay put in front of the screen and holler "Come in!" I get asked the same question every time. "You still watching those birds?" (LOL.) "No, no! It's different birds this time!", I reply, still glued to the screen. "Well, maybe the same birds but a different video." 😊 (Still glued to the screen.)
By now I ought to know more than I do. Especially considering how many and how often I watch. Someone might ask me a question one of these days and I'd like to be able to give them an answer if I can. So, I gladly accept AND appreciate the knowledge bestowed upon me by yourself, Lady Hawk, and a few others. The next time anyone asks I can honestly say "I'm furthering my education!" Thank you again, CuriousCat, from the bottom of my heart! ❤ Bless you!!

Thank you, Connie! Your words are very kind!
I also did, and do, a lot of watching.
Based on that, I can safely say that you probably already know a lot more than you realize. But, you may not know what to call it.
That piece, for me, was filled in by reading comments, chat room rolls, classroom sessions (kids ask the best questions and some are very innocently funny!).
The best part of teaching and learning from each other is that when we see something happen, good or bad, we share that experience with others in the groups we join.
      For example...
I have been watching the SWFL nest for many years. This past season one of the fish brought in had a hook and fishing line attached. So, the E's had managed to get their feet tied up, linked together.
Even though they weren't near each other, each movement away from the other pulled on the line and moved the other's foot. So, their expressions were hilarious. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry?
At one point, one tried to branch, but, flying up pulled the other one's foot up with it. It was like watching the 3, well 2, stooges. Lol!
When I saw that, I knew that all the people who were watching felt exactly as I did. Laughing at the question mark looks they had on their cute little faces and horror at the fact that there was a hook dangling there, too! Plus, they were tangled up.
So, the whole experience got magnified, because we were all of one mind, laughing and biting our talons, until it got solved. Which it did, thank God, or I would have stressed eaten my way through all the food in the house. Lol!
It happened at a time where there wasn't a scheduled chat line session, but, they opened it for discussion, knowing that we kind of needed each other, as our E's were in trouble.
If you were one of those people watching that day, you know exactly how I was feeling. If this is a new story about that nest, then, you now know another piece that makes some comments more special when an incident is referenced.
That's what it's all about for me. The birds and the fellowship and learning stuff along the way.
I really get very attached to these feathered friends, and the whole experience helps to keep me grounded, as I see God's miraculous creation unfold.
Have a great and blessed day! 😻
