I have always appreciated Peavey’s spring reverb voicing on their amps and p.a.’s. Also, nothing beats jostling the springs accidentally bumping the XR-800 sound console with your knee as you uncross your leg to keep it from falling asleep ...at church ....in the middle of the sermon.

Missing in our explanation of drip is a physics concept called "dispersion". This is what we call it when different frequencies travel at different speeds. It's the thing that makes rainbows from white light. Drip is the same thing but in the audio domain. Yes, drip is a SONIC RAINBOW! Or, if you prefer, a spring is an AUDIO PRISM! The high frequencies pass down the spring slower than the low frequencies, so high frequencies arrive later. Make the drip sound with your mouth and you'll hear it - low frequencies first, increasingly high frequencies follow.

Best Live JHS show ever. What a killer surprise having Ryan on! It was great to see some barely mentioned pedals get checked for the drip. And some of them in fact drip, incredible. I landing on a SurfyBear Metal myself, but I'm always on the lookout for some sort of compact pedal backup/alternate. Too bad the Oceans 12 inspection kinda fell apart there due to it being overly complex. Oh well. Lot of fun guys, thanks.

Funny how Josh never tuned into the drip sound, yet when I was just getting into guitar around y2000, I plugged into a Vibro-King at Guitar Center, and immediately fell in love with the drip of that amp's reverb. It's legendary, and i had to have one. Within a year, I located a used one, and got it at a decent price.... I still have it today. I never realized pedals were getting so good at the drip aspect..... I may have to get one now.

    • @robotsongs
      @robotsongs 3 роки тому +1

Ugh. I was in high school when the Vibro-King came out and I had a religious experience with one at Guitar Center soon thereafter. I *yearned* for that amp, but I could never afford it. Cut to twenty years later, and I'm making decent money, have a fair amount of very nice amps, but I still don't have one of those things. I don't know if it's just because I have other vintage Fenders that are good enough, that I don't like super powerful amps anymore, or whateverthehell, but I still have a place in my heart for the amazing sound of that amp.

Loved hearing the story of how you guys met. I was in a band that used to play with Ryan, Steve, & Adam’s band, and discovered JHS through Ryan and Daniel Tyack. We did this “show us your gear” thing at a church a few years back where a bunch of San Diego church musician peeps got together and we all set up our amps and pedals and demo’d how we used our stuff...
Daniel Tyack brought the JHS Color Box and it was like a week before it debuted at NAMM, so we couldn’t tell anyone about it or post pics or demos, but I thought it was the coolest thing.
Ryan is a great dude. Very glad to see 60CH doing well, and love this channel as well.

I have the Marshall Jackhammer from that series of pedals, it’s great! I was looking for a Marshall in a box and couldn’t really afford one and then stumbled upon this when a store was moving and I got it for $20! It goes from plexi to jcm800 really well, it has a similar mids eq to a metal zone but can do a lot more

I really liked it. The slide brought in a theremin quality

I've never heard of "the drip" before. I've never really discussed it with anyone before, so it's always been a mental reference to the "twish" of a spring reverb

Ryan is the reason i'm addicted to Reverb for years.
Owning Reverb pedals, a SurfyBear and 2 tube reverbs.😁
Every time a reverb comes out the first thing is " Does It Drip"
Great episode. Lot's of fun and Drip.
And yes: I own the TC Drip and the Dan Electro Cornedbeef wich are the worst of the whole collection😎

1:04 - Josh that was the most sick and ridiculous tone I've heard in a while and made me want to run and grab my guitar and just play. I'm on my 5th listen already... It's got this 60s James Bond kind of thing going on. Super cool.

Watching this reminds me of the Dick Dale gig I mixed in the 90's. His tech came to me with his Fender reverb in one hand and a coil of bungee rope in the other. 'We're going to have to find someplace we can hang this from the ceiling' Apparently with two Dual Showmans (Showmen?) cranked (literally every knob on 10) on the stage and the reverb dimed as well it couldn't touch anything or it would just howl. Drippy! and loud as %#$@

I saw him do that at the Caboose in Mpls back in 1993. He was a showman, stayed as long as there were people in line seeking autographs.
