I have windows 10 home on a three year old computer and it says the Hevc is not compatible with this computer? Figures
have a Win 10 machine, says it will not work for my system? Why? No 'Get' option in store.

DUUUUUDE, thank u so much i have been with this problem with more than 6 month cant fix it !
You are a life saver. This fixed it instantly. To everyone who tries this please note that your board aka your hardware must have built in HEVC codec for this to work. But shame on Microsoft for trying to misrepresent the problem and disabling hardware that is then being profited on.
Almost all motherboards post 2013 should have it any motherboard post 2016 has a 99.99999% chance of having it. (there are some companies that shall not be named that deserve Malbolge as their default coding language for all of eternity.)

This helped me out a lot,

@@grokshop I highly recommend everyone getting this HEVC codec for 1 simply reason: efficiency, which also translates to longer battery life on laptop. I've tried VLC player, 5k players and win10's built-in Movies & TV player (which works with HEVC codec) on many huge x265 files with very high bit-rate. On VLC player, cpu usage is about 20%, on 5k players about 15%, and on Movies & TV player under 5%. don't know how microsoft managed to beat the competitors with such a huge margin, but it's highly impressive.
Many thanks to you for sharing, sir.
