  • In this #vlog, I'm leaving #Vientiane and #flying to rural northern Laos - specifically, Xieng Khouang province. Here lies the town of #Phonsavan, and along with Xieng Khouang province, is one of the most heavily bombed regions of #Laos during the Secret War.
I've always been curious about this part of the country - the people, the history, and of course, the food. Let's check it out.
Don't forget to watch in 4K!
Thanks for watching! Cheers, Nick :)

That ant eggs is actually really hard to find, it's seasonal food definitely. I used to buy in beginning of 2021 costs 80,000 kip/kg. And better cook first which I used to fry and it's smell really tasty, so of course, it's delicious

Ant eggs are really hard to come by and in my understanding, it's seasonal so 15k doesn't seem so bad. I've had it in soup and it's really good. The lady that sold them to you was trying to tell you that you have to cook them before eating them or they won't taste good. She was telling the little boy to tell you that you have to cook them but I guess he was too shy lol

Love your clips, bro! Keep them coming. I’m an American Laotian and have been to some of the locations on your trip to Laos. However, I’m not sure the stuff you ate at the market was actual ant eggs. Anyway, could you incorporate local beers on your future trips/clips? Just a suggestion!

    • @pranejon

For ant eggs, we normally add them to a fish soup or if you want to eat raw then make a goi or sah, which is another version of larb, but more sour. Well the ant eggs that we usually eat are from fire ants, so they are a combination of milky and acidic taste. I am not sure if the ones in the market are ant eggs, we usually don’t fry ant eggs, so surprised the lady told him to fry them first before eating, which suggests the eggs could be from other insects and not ants? Lol 😂

I stayed at the same guest house about 10 or so years ago. And I stayed in either your room or 1 to the left or right. They were actually closed down because they were sick of tourist bullshit. The couple that own the place were still deciding as to whether to ever re open, seems they did. They had a lunatic friend ,of sorts, who was a motorbike tour leader called "muddy mick" (the worst in the history of tour leaders in asia, is the story) . Anyway I met muddy mick on day 1 in the town and he invited/haranged me to stay at his 'best friends' guesthouse. Turns out they did not only hardly know him but they let him stay because they felt sorry for him, he was happy to have a free room with no running water, and it was to be only a day or 2. However weeks later It seems he just wouldn't leave. Worse still was that he invited me ! The owners turned out to be great people, and it was a bit of an adventure. I tried to escape muddy mick early one morning by quietly packing my motorbike and fking off. Sadly he tracked me down in town.... well just sharing .😂
