Thank you, it’s very much appreciated! To be honest I couldn’t give you a honest answer only because I never did a dyno run. If I had to take a guess I would say the current set up I have with the Borla has been my favorite as far as sound goes and I think with the Xpipe and style of muffler I’m not losing back pressure since it still isn’t cammed. Once I put my cam in I’ll have to tune it which I then plan on getting it on a dyno for some before and after numbers.
I got a 1500HD 6.0 and currently between magna flow and Borla. Want to go with borla as I like raspiness but I don’t want a loud truck just a subtle but good deep sounding truck. I live in California so don’t want the cops on my ass. What do you recommend? (Just swapping mufflers)
I think it just depends on what model you go with for either. Originally I started out with a magnaflow “Rv/Truck” muffler. Not sure what model it was as it was already on the truck when I bought it. At the time I had stock manifolds, all cats and just the magnaflow. The exhaust was super quiet and mellow, not much louder than stock and I didn’t get any drone in the cab like I have in the past with the Flowmaster super 40. So when I went with this Borla I have now, I didn’t want drone but I wanted a sublet increase in sound and at idle it’s pretty mellow, cruising it’s noticeable but not obnoxious, (haven’t had any drone) and that’s with shorty headers and deleted cats. The thing I did not like about the magnaflow is that it has figerglass packing so after a year you’ll notice a change in the sound and it might start to drone. So personally I like the Borla more. Sorry for the novel of a response, hope it was thorough enough to help at least.
@@OronasGarage no it’s fine, I appreciate the time of day. But I’m other words I should go with Borla. I was thinking getting a Borla Muffler and later down the road getting H pipes
I’ve never gotten anything over 11.5mpg. But I also have 35’s with 4.10’s. So if you’re planning on staying stock the mpg will be a little better. I eventually will do 4.56 but not sure if that will help with the mpg or not.
At this point I honestly couldn’t tell you an accurate number. A lot more than I should have spent, that’s for sure. Originally I went with a y-pipe and carven R series, then after I added headers I deleted the cats added an Xpipe and two resonators then changed from the carven to the Borla. So a few hundred bucks has gone into this for sure. I enjoy changing out the exhausts or messing with what’s in the exhaust system to see what different tones I get. Will it be raspy? Will it be loud? Will it have a lot of cab drone? Will I gain any power or lose power? So I don’t recommend doing all this. There’s only a handful of selections for cat back systems for the 2500 models too so I also wanted to find something that I really liked. Haven’t quite gotten to that point yet so as I continue to change things up, I just document it, as I’m sure there are people that are just as curious as I am about different exhausts.
So far I like it because the cab drone went down significantly. It’s a bit quieter on the low end but top end or wide open throttle it sounds good in my opinion. I think the next thing would be a cam and some long tubes but not sure how soon that’ll even be so far now this is definitely a good all around sound. No drone and sounds aggressive enough when it’s opened up.
@@alpinesupra88 No sir, I have a 4 inch intake tube that goes into a sealed S&B intake box, flowtech shorty headers that have 1 7/8” primary tubes, I have deleted the cats, added an x-pipe just under the passenger door area then put two high flow resonators and in place where the stock muffler would be I now have the Borla which is dual inlet single outlet. I only have the resonators as the exhaust I had prior to the Borla made it somewhat raspy in certain RPMs and also made a lot of cab drone.
@@OronasGarage Got ya. I am trying to find something that won’t drone and won’t be raspy especially when I get headers. I have been thinking about using a LARGE and LONG diesel muffler hoping that would elevate both drone and rasp without cats and resonators, if that makes sense.
@@alpinesupra88 I recently thought about doing the same thing, at least for the axle back portion. I’m not 100% sure but I think the diesel exhausts are single inlet single outlet and most 2500 non diesels that I have seen are usually independent piping from the manifolds back up until the stock muffler then it’s a dual inlet dual outlet to a y-pipe that converts to a single outlet muffler. There are a few exhausts that I personally like for our trucks. Black widow has the venom 250 but I think without cats and with headers it would be pretty loud. I have a video of the venom 250 on my buddies 8.1 Sierra. It’s all stock other than the muffler. Check it out and see if maybe you like the way it sounds. Originally I had a magnaflow, not sure of the model number as it came with the truck upon purchase but it sounded nice, just a little quiet for my liking. Sorry for the long book lol just hoping I could help cause I know there’s not many sound clips of exhausts for our models/years
Wheel/tire combo steals the show
Very much appreciated!
Sounds very good. The Borla gives it that rich deep tone the 6.0L puts out.
It sure does! And no drone in the cab either so that’s my favorite part about it!
Just had this exact Borla put on my 02 2500HD 6.0 . Left the cats. Sounds awesome.
Nice! I like how mellow it is while cruising but it has a nice sound when you go WOT
Beautiful truck
Thank you!
been watching a bunch of your videos because I’m just a huge fan of your truck. What exhaust setup has made the most power for you?

how loud is it under normal driving? and does it have a lot of drone?
With the Borla there’s little to no drone.
Also, under normal driving conditions it’s very mellow.
just started following -is this with headers or just the muffler?
In this video the truck already has the following:
Intake
Flow tech shorty headers
Cat delete
X-pipe
Two cherry bomb resonators
Borla muffler
