    These kinds of historical builds are the closest thing we have to immersion in Rome 2.

    Pontus should have ignored the triarii with those chariots and just wrecked through the main line of rome, maybe then there would have been enough swords to beat the remaining units. Also the friendly fire and front on attack with the archers didn't help

    Two things one for each player that I have picked up watching Sol and others recently (though I am not that good at them yet). For the Roman player the threat of cavalry is almost as powerful as the cavalry itself. This means even if you are being very selective about when to engage them even when harassed by horse archers. With less cavalry than your opponent, the threat of counter charging the any enemy cavalry that targets your infantry may give your infantry more time to do its work. Though I do get why you took the engagement you did, though instead of woods and cavalry testudo, maybe try to yoyo back and forth to bait shots from the horse archers for a little bit. Light missile cavalry is the same speed as medium melee cavalry (some units are exceptions) it just has better turn speed, acceleration, deceleration etc. This means with a lapse in micro even heavy cavalry can catch them if close enough and they hit charge speed. For the Pontic player you have to sort wiggle your chariots to use them most effectively. I just learned this from Sol's stream yesterday. Once your chariot makes contact with a unit you have to give them alternating orders 45 degrees left and right of the direction you want them to go. This does 3 things keeps the units speed higher (the catch-up mechanic that units keep in formation), makes them hit more models (do more damage), and disrupts the mass of the unit you charged so you don't get bogged down. Since the patch 20 changes that came with (or just after) the desert kingdoms DLC this is needed to make chariots do as good as they used to (or at least close). Still very cool builds and good match to both players! I'll stop rambling now.

    Archers needed to save ammo for the triarii in late game. Horse archers should’ve also saved ammo when the cav went into testudo and let that chariot or the melee cav take care of them.

    It’s nice to see an active community for Rome 2. I’d love to play a campaign with someone, but I live in Japan, so my hours are so different from other players :(

    Thst face you make, then you are the triarii, and you got the least kills in battle.

    Valiant effort by the Pontus player. I bet if they played the same build again and had a rematch they would win by making some adjustments with the horse archers & chariots.

    I play nothing but premarian Rome I used to have alot of problems fighting at first but it is so rewarding and very flexible.
    I adopted the use of a praetorian unit or 2 since the Scipii had them and buddy it's like hitting the easy button Numidians equites velites syrians good lord it's great
    I was.inspired to do it because it's my favorite point in roman history premarian.

    I think the archers should've focused down the Velites (especially as they blobbed up), thereby eliminating the main threat to the chariots, so the chariots could've been sent down the through the line of infantry before the Romans got the upper hand. Great battle nonetheless, and somewhat historically accurate unit picks 👌

      the archers did focus down the velites. but they also focused down their own chariot. the velites only got 2 volleys of pila into those chariots. heir called it right, pontus friendly fire lost him the game

    Fun historical fact: Romans of this era cared very much about hair removal, meaning there would be lots of smooth, muscular Roman chests beneath their historically accurate breastplates.

    Heir 10:32,
    When Horsemen dismount their steeds run away and they lose the Massive HP the horses give Cav.
    Dismounting is always a bad choice in Rome 2.
    A good mechanic, since it was done during sieges historically, but never well implemented in the game. Like rest of Rome 2 till years later.
    Thanks for something other than Warhammer, which I love too.

    • @sushanalone
      @sushanalone Рік тому +1

      P.s its more likely as the Pontic Royal cav was a general, the player used the last available ability , which was dismount, in desperation :D.

    • @sushanalone
      @sushanalone Рік тому

      That is another reason why you sometimes see horses run out of fights , as the damage was done to the rider and he died , while the horse ran away with hp. Just my theory.
