Alright alright, let's get down to building Wheatley IRL ok? Personality Cores, Spheres, etc, are essential robotic stewards of Aperture Labs in Portal and Portal 2 and are required to modify GLaDOS's unruly behavior. I've already built a prototype of her head, so cores are the logical next step! They're plausible mechanically, but I will have to make some compromises so that things aren't floating and clipping through each other. This is the second video where I explain the elements of his inner eye and his eyelids.

Technically, only some cores can fly, Wheatley moves on a bar that spans across the facility.
Although complex it would be interesting to see it hooked up to something like a CV program so that it would be able to interact with you. Mainly I’m curious if you can make it “animate itself” by setting up preset angles, for each respective part, for certain emotions so that it can go to that state if it is activated.

Can't believe you're not willing to break the laws of physics for a UA-cam video. This is incredible though, how true you manage to stay to the og designs blows my mind, even though I understand none of it. Keep going with your sorcery.

I'm so glad this fandom isn't dead. I played the game literally two months ago and figured I was way past the expiration date. Lol.
Anyway, the eye is looking nice! Wheatley is my favorite. 😊
I think you could achieve the exact eyelid look by trimming the rounded top of the top eye lid and the rounded bottom of the bottom eye lid to be flush with the ring you have around the eye. This will make it look more accurate and probably save you some room for some other effects later down the line. The eye is still an absolute feat and I think it’s amazing that you got it working. I’m excited to see the next video.

Here's a crazy idea: what about flexible eyelids? Or somehow semi or selectively flexible eyelids? That way they could roll up under the shroud and appear to disappear.
That might work! I wanted to keep it simple as there are enough mechanisms for me to tackle. Since this is my first time building a core, I've already learned a lot for what may be a Mk II...

After animating core models in SFM, yeah, their eyelids are physically impossible.. or seemingly so. It would be an interesting concept to try and make those 'impossible' eyelids a reality. Someone could probably come up with a blinds-like solution for the eyelids, except with a more rigid material than fabric.

I agree with you. For future builds, I'm going to be making only self-contained episodes, but there's other work/sponsor reasons why Wheatley is short and multi-part.

Trying to build Wheatley IRL is like remaking the power puff girls, there are a lot of ways yet the only accurate one is the original that inspired everyone, but that’s not gonna stop portal fans from trying to break the laws of physics kinda like how Cartoon Network breaks itself you giving remakes to the ones that won’t have the original creators so we that it makes me regret tuning in because they just milk whatever they can until it’s gone.

Yep! I've already creating a digital iris graphic for animation, since while real bladed irises do act quickly, they can't be as compact and still cover his relatively large eye.
