Disc golf is fun, so have fun throwing all sorts of different discs! But yeah if you're trying to be the best you can... Less is more. It's a tricky balance haha
Longest disc i have had in my bag would have to be an A2. The oldest mold is probably the pa3. I bought a fission hex that is lighter weight that i hope will be more understable then my max weight neutron hexs. I have a detour that i will be testing also. If the fission hex gets flippy then i will likely bag it over the detour. Light weight hexes seem rare though. All the hexes that i have thrown are pretty stable. I dont habe the best arm either though. Working on it.
I like having the detour around as it could replace my beat in hex if I ever lose it since that thing took at least a year to beat into the flip to flat disc I was looking for. Building around the hex, it's nice to have that out of the box replacement just in case.
The detour will likely make my bag since my beat up roc barely flies any further than my flippy putter so I need something faster to complement my reactors. I think that is the perfect scenario for a detour to make my bag
I’m waiting to open my gyropalooza box until I reunite with my DG friends back home after this semester of college is over. The box has been sitting in my room for about a week now with 2 weeks to go.

Bought these specifically to improve my form since Simon was able to flip them, along with the prototype. I don’t bag them during live rounds, but they do come in handy when field working. As for the detour, it just feels like another straight middy.
if you've got a mixed bag, yeah. I've seen people get sponsored by different companies and get "worse" bc some companies lack slots. But overall I agree
I’m with you on the Timelapse- a little sad I won’t bag one anytime soon. I have a biofuzion defender I’ve had for a few years now, don’t play often so it’s not like it’s super beat-in, and also only throw ~300ft so the slot I have it in is purely for utility. The Timelapse is going to do the exact same thing (find the ground and skip big). So no sense in picking one up. Now, if I lose that defender, I’m not buying another. Probably will check the Timelapse out and there will probably be some fission plastic ones by then too.
I have the detour in my bag and love it. I didn't have other discs in those slots already. I think it all falls on preference and feel of the disc in the hand.
with few exceptions, I like to build a bag where I Can throw the disc dead flat every time, and know the line the disc will take. as a result of this, I have a range of stabilities in 5 speeds, 4 speeds, 3 speeds for short game shots that will all fly differently when thrown flat. I find it is easier to throw the same shot every time, than to adjust the form every time. I do occasionally throw a super over stable disk on hyzer to get out of trouble, or throw a roller, but I like knowing that I Do not have to worry about release angle most of the time, and that the disc can do the job for me.
I think that's a solid strategy and I don't think it's "wrong". I have a lot of thoughts on this topic but a big one is that we so so often are forced to throw in slightly "off" positions anyway, so knowing how to throw different angles at different body positions will make us better in the long run
I think the Detour is generally a different slot than the Hex, as is the Time-Lapse is typically different than the Destroyer. The average Detour is going to be less stable than the average Hex, as the average Time-Lapse will be more stable than the average Destroyer. You can certainly find ones that overlap, however. Regarding the overcompensation principle. Sometimes we want to get a disc that does something, and then we want to put that action on it, and often it's just too much. One of the more annoying things to experience in a round, and often we don't realize until after we throw.
My Detour SE is flies more like an Uplink than a Hex. Thrown flat it always turns right. The turn comes later in the flight and it less severe than the Uplink but it is not stable by any means.
it's a great understable mid. Funny enough I've been tinkering with it again recently bc I want to do what I said in this vid and go Roc3/Detour instead of Hex/Lobster
Here`s the thing: Disc choice all comes down to psycology. It doesnt matter what you throw, Innova, Discraft, Latitude, Kastaplast.. They all have great discs, so if you love one or the other that brand/make will probably make you play better. Just because you like it. Great video!
How a disc feels in the hand is often joked about, but I firmly believe that it's one of the most important parts of what disc you choose. The mental side of the game is huge, like you said

@@ArmoryDiscGolf yeah it hit a tree and went into a turtle hole. I didn’t want to stick my hand in there but my buddy was down for it after a couple weeks, he wanted to see if it was still in there. He had his entire arm in the hole with his face planted to the ground and grabbed the disc out
Agree mainly but a few throws were just not comparable like the lobster and detour. Lobster was flat and high and detour lower hyzer flip. Not saying they aren’t different levels of under stability but you really should have rethrown vastly different slots if you want to make a fair comparison.
Most disc's should be slightly different, they don't use the molds to create disc's in a 100% climate controlled room so any variance in humidity or atmospheric pressure can change the disc's a bit. I don't know this for a fact but I'd guess companies mainly mold one color for a period then move onto a new color, so that's why certain colors likely are similar to each other but not exactly like other colors.
@@ArmoryDiscGolf 100% with you, I have 3 slightly different molds of destroyers for a reason, was more pointing out why there will always be a difference in colors/stability for anyone who comes across it.

It's a fairly popular theory and there's a lot of discussion to be had there, but I think it's slightly less preferable than minimalizing the # of discs you throw in a given round Also, if I had multiple Hexes with _significant_ stability differences, I would prefer to do that instead. But I haven't beat one in enough to be a Lobster and have never seen one stable enough to be a Bobcat 🤷♂️
Yeah I think that throwing fewer discs and getting more reps with them is better than putting in a different disc for every little different shot When these discs first came out everyone was going nuts about putting them in the bag. They're great discs but for ME weren't different enough from what I already had to warrant putting them in
So, it's not really the Time Lapse and Detour that are the potential issue...it's adding any new disc that might keep you from mastering what you're already bagging.
It's definitely not specific to the Detour and Time Lapse, they're just the hot new drops and afford the opportunity to discuss this. This being said though, if Detours are more comfortable in your hand or you're more confident in them than what you've got in that slot, they (or whatever disc) might be the better option. But I think having distinct slots in your bag and having go to discs is important

This applies to all new releases, yes. That was a big point, alongside a few others MVP is just the company with the hot releases right now. I made it a point multiple times (even the very first thing I said) that these are great discs 👍 Have you tried either of them out yet?
Originally I had a clip talking about this but I didn't want to stretch the video any longer. Essentially my opinion is that it's a solid strategy but is slightly less optimal for a couple of different reasons. But I definitely DO also recommend that ppl find similar discs in different speeds (like find a fairway that has similar stability to your favorite mid) so that they can reduce variables as they change distances. Which is a very similar concept 👍
As a lefty, I still don't get why the Destroyer is so loved. I've never really liked it. Was the first DD I tried, but there are so many discs with similar numbers. I was offered the first release of Time Lapses at the mvp open. I just didn't need another driver. Im happy with my bag.
Do they fly different for lefties? Haha I'm certainly biased bc the Destroyer is the disc I've been throwing (specifically forehand) for years and years, but the combination of flight and and feel just feels right to me. There are lots of great discs out there though

Detour is awesome. Flies like a really beat in hex right out of the box. Don't get the detour slander, detour/hex are not the same.

The Detour is good for the "understable Hex" slot, but I'm with you- I'd rather just have an understable Hex haha

Yeah it's cool that they're already at work on the Fission ones. I like the "cool factor" of throwing a Time Lapse but it's not unique in flight
