@@spacexsays3227 The idea of the earth being flat is about as stupid as it comes in 2020. I mean philosophers have had the understanding of the earth being a globe for thousands of years and it’s been generally accepted for hundreds. Now that we have satellites in orbit and the ISS it’s just common fact we live on a globe.
Here’s my question though, if the earth is truly flat why would every country in the world, including countries that hate each other all agree to keep it a secret the earth is flat? What do they have to gain, same reason if the moon landings were staged why didn’t the Soviet’s call out the Americans when they only lose by pretending the US got to the moon?

At this point reality is just Elon Musk's personal sandbox game.
This will work if they have upwind wind sensors say 100m and 50 m upwind of landing pad. so that the booster can calculate exactly how much it will drift in the wind. Wind prediction is key to the precision here. I cant understand why they do not do it landing planes...

Blue origin aint landed shit. Toy rockets dont count.
they are slow as hell
Blue origin might be the best at landing rockets. Now they only have to workout how to make the rocket fly off the launch pad first.
How is Blue Origin the best at landing rockets? They have a toy rocket that hovers and it is still less precise than Falcon9 booster

We had the moon landing in 1969, but even 10 years ago the thought of a reusable rocket seemed impossible. The Falcon Heavy boosters landing together a few years ago is probably as amazing as the moon landing. Now, they have many reused boosters, 9 missions on one is the highest
15 now!!!
No, it is nowhere NEAR as amazing as the Moon landing. Amazing yes, but not on par with that. Let me guess......you were not alive for the moon landing. People were CRYING as the flag was planted.
"Maybe they will try in a few years."
Elon in august 2021: let's catch our first ever flying booster
really hope starship will be reuseable not 'refurbish'-able
yep...truly reusable in hour
That's gonna be hard for the Starship portion at first because parts of the heat shield melt from the high friction re-entry. Reusing a starship that has a faulty heat shield will bring back the Columbia tragedy.
The booster portion will definitely be easier to reuse, but I will give it another 5 years for SpaceX to work out the kinks.
@@jg5001 The booster doesn't have a heat shield. It does not sustain the heat retention of an orbital re-entry. It is sub-orbital when it returns.

@@jg5001 That's okay. Plenty of controversy without misunderstandings. BTW, The Starship won't be caught...IT has heat shields and landing legs. Who knows if That will change....
I don’t think you’ll have to wait a few years. As of Jan2021, they’re already working in the second booster prototype. I would be surprised if they don’t start testing them this year, even if they have to put legs on the first few until the build the launch / landing tower. They also bought two floating or semisubmersible drilling platforms to modify into sea launch platforms. They must not sleep! Lol.
remember, their dead line is 2022 so they don't have much time
I think we'll see super heavy fly in the next 4 months or so
The only thing that's delaying and wasting all the hard work of engineers is flight delays

I thought the same as you back then, but didn't account that they'll need a full year to make the tower with grabbing hand.

@Roland Fenet stop it
Yup, I'm thinking the same thing. The level of accuracy needed to pull this off is unrealistic imo.
I love that phrase, "...next evolution of crazy space ideas"! You've got to absolutely love what SpaceX has done, pushing the envelope and making it dramatically less expensive in material, labor and other fabrication costs. I wish them continued great success. Orion may speed up their development now that Jeff has begun to concentrate his attention as well as resources on it, and they'll benefit from what SpaceX has learned, so more power to them, as well. Two private corporations in the U.S. are doing what no other country on earth can do, and we've only seen the early beginnings of what they will accomplish.
