This is why the V10 is my favourite type of engine.
It's almost guaranteed that no matter what its in, its going to sound fantastic.
normally id agree with you... but i cant lie the viper v10 sounds terrible, it always sounds broken and un-refined and tuned like a proper v10 should!
It's made by dodge, what do you expect? :p But yeah, it sounds very american and coarse. I like it though. It doesn't sound artificial.
+steven I agreee. It sounds terrible because it's a kind of 2 cylinder plus upgraded V8. I still prefer the S85 V10.
+steven it's because it's such a high liter and has a huge stroke so less high revving.
+steven the Viper V10 is a 90 degree, odd-fire engine...that's why they sound like crap. Ford's 6.8L V10 is also a 90 degree engine, but it uses a split-pin crank and counter-balance shafts to overcome the inherent vibrations of a 90 degree V10. Dodge's solution was the odd-fire ignition.

I'd say the Pagani Huayra is car porn in every way, though the LFA has a more beautiful sound. The Huayra's soundtrack is unique, however.

The F1 V10 was the sound of my childhood. If we weren't at the races, my dad would have it blasting out of the TV on a Sat/Sun morning :-).

Well thats not true. Because the earlier Gallardo had a 5.0 engine which was developed by Lamborghini itself. The 5.2 engine which can be found in the Gallardo facelift or the R8 is developed by Audi.

Wiesmann did use V10 engines sourced from BMW and it's also a great car not to mention the fact that the company is defunct

I agree. the lfa has been my fav car for couple three years now because no car on the road sounds better. there are better vids of the carrera than in this one. it sounds fantastic also.

Just saw a Gallardo Racing around our track yesterday at full speed. Sound so good, especially when it hitts the Rev Limiter
That LFA rpm shifts in 0.6 seconds its so fast that its tachometer cant even kept up with that's pure Japanese engineering

One of the best vids yet, in my opinion. Every car shown sounds great! I must confess, I was driving a Triton V10 powered UHAUL truck once, and I couldn't help myself but to rev it in a parking lot, it sounded pretty good!

My vote goes to Audi's TT V10. Sounds fearsome when accelerating from low RPM. Of course, that's a noticeable trait in turbocharged engines.

@@CarbonComp It isn't. The inherent vibration of 2 cyl on one side, 3 on the other would rock and tear the engine off of any mounts. Only 5's i know of are inline.
That BMW v10 though it sounds so good also that lfa v10 is amazing!

I agree the noise that you hear away from the formula 1 v10 era is what gives it it's allure. it sounds as though the car is in a tunnel at all times lol. hearing it run down the kemmel straight away from you after eau rouge is amazing.
I love the uneven sound of the viper it's so badass. I cannot understand how anyone couldn't. Smooth engines always just sound boring in my opinion
Carerra GT is by far the best sounding V10 it gives me goose bumps.
it's really hard to mess with the sound on that GT !!! I think it is even cooler the fact that is was supposed to be an F1 or LMP motor! way better job then the Ferrari F50, which in all honesty sound BRUTALLL irl, but was sad that they tamed it sooo much :( GT wins hands down.

I didn't expect that you would mention formula 1, its very nice to remember those good day. I absolutely loved renault's v10 in the r25, my god that was a great sound, very even.
The best sound V10/ best sounding engine in general is that from an 8.4L V10 from a Dodge Viper ACR, no car sounds better starting up, not even an old school V8 Hemi (in my own personal opinion). Plus those side dump exhaust just look amazing.

The fact that i love the viper come along with the fact that i love the V10 architecture. despite that, even tho the Viper V10 sound so unique, i learned that the firing order rather that the crankshaft angle, make the sound totally different in a more enjoyable way. i just wrote whatsoever passed in my mind, pardon me .

The 5.2 V10 from the huracan was built for the R8 and was than used for the huracan it is an audi engine not a Lamborghini engine
It’s Lamborghini’s engine. Audi just improved it. Audi didn’t start from scratch, they took the original 5.0L Gallardo, changed the firing order, increased the sized, and slapped it on the R8 and 2nd Generation Gallardo

Those kei car three-cylinder engines does sound quite extraordinary as well as the MV Agusta 675/800 Brutale (my friend has got the 800 one) does sound spectacular. There could be such a video, but it needs more time to research what good sounding engines are there

That's a good point, of the top of my head I can't remember a v10 motor that sounds bad or any v10 at all, the new viper ACR still has the odd firing v10 and they didn't mess with the exhaust, so it's the exhaust note we love about vipers, and i know someone that has a Ford econoline with a factory v10, and it's not modified and you can hear a little something, you can tell by the sound that's not a V8 under the hood.

+VisioRacer one question, I keep hearing this a lot, but when you talk to a regular mechanic in the USA and you mention any v10 at all, they say it makes no torque, but as an example the new viper v10 makes 640hp and 600 pound feet, why would you say it makes no torque if it makes more torque than a naturally aspirated V8? I don't get it?
Basically anything with a multiple of 5 cylinders sounds incredible. NA, turbo, supercharged, doesn't matter.

The BMW V10 sounds really mean and loud (with a stainless aftermarket exhaust) although that Lexus is up there as well.

I like all V10 sounds, i love the clean and pure screamers, but i worship the Viper. it's a mix of V10,V8,L5 and a little bit of V6.
It's so messy and unclean compared to the S85 for example, it's simply RAW. But it's not a steady boring tone either, it has a very complex and diverse range. Some times you really don't know what the fuck you're hearing.
Interesting take on that. The Viper does have an odd raspy V10 tone doesnt it? I believe the large displacement and pushrod design that makes it sound this way.
Make a video on some of the greatest Automotive pioneers. The people who contributed to the greatness of these amazing engines and cars both in terms of innovation and design.
Well considering ford also made dodge I'd say they would probably top the charts.

The viper V10 engines and the LFA engine are my favourite sounding non V8 gasoline engines by far.
1. Lexus LFA
2. bmw s85
3. 5.2 v10 Lamborghini/audi (with the twin turbo kit sound even better)

My dad has a super charger like the one of fast and furious but by dad has a v10 engine, advanced carbonated cooling system, double exhaust pipes, and a crazy clutch system with crazy exhaust time.
