PBP 2015: My Paris-Brest-Paris Experience

- I was among more than 5,000 cyclists from around the world who converged on Paris in mid-August 2015 for the 18th edition of Paris-Brest-Paris, the world's oldest cycling event. The 1200-kilometer course (767 miles) takes riders west to the westernmost point in France and back again--all in under 90 hours.

The guy picking up and kissing his bike on arrival is a terrific sight. Thank you for the gorgeous footage.
I think I've watched this video 4 or 5 times, and now partly thanks to this I'm attempting PBP for the first time in 2019.
Did you do this ride in 2019?
@@josephphillips865 I did, completed in 54 hrs 40 minutes (ish)
@@yanto63 Congrats! Great time as well.
great, it is shocking to see as a indian, no heavy loading vehicle, no traffic , respect for cyclists....great
Enjoyed the reminiscence as potential inspiration for 2023. But I was thrilled to see my bike, and then me, on the bridge at Brest. Then I was the cyclist who rode into the Brest control just in front of you. That was great!
I watched this video about 15 times . This is my motyvation. Thanks :)
Really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing.
Hah! Spotted myself at 32.05, in the red on the left, tucking into a vat of coffee and a plate of sausages and chips at the roadside fry-up. Kept me going all the way to Tinteniac.
Bravo pour votre PBP, c'était de très beaux souvenirs, votre vidéo est toute en finesse et la musique bien choisie.
Enjoyed this video. My longest ride I did recently was 107 miles which felt epic. Then I watch this video and it adds a whole new dimension to it. What a challenge both physically and mentally. Well done!
Brilliant, thank you for making this video!
Great video to replay fond memories of 2015 while on the winter trainer now. Thanks Campyguy!
Great to meet you at Loudeac. Thanks for your videos
This documentary of yours is truly awesome! This is the sort of inspiration I am looking for in my early preparations for 2023. Thanks for sharing!
superb video !!! Bravo, I enjoyed it so much
Congratulations and thanks for sharing your experience.
Just awesome!!
Excellent video. Thank you.
Great video never herd of this Avent before thank you for sharing well done atb
Hoping to do the PBP 2019 after finishing the TCR this year, thank you so much for sharing.
Great video and many congratulations on your finish. Unfortunately I had to give my ride in Loudeac.
Thanks for posting I really enjoyed watching it. I just do not know how you all managed to do it and also given the lack of sleep how even tempered you all are. Well done.
Great! You earn my full respect for this outstanding ride! And also for this very charming video that gives an impression of one is able to do. Not me, but you ;-)
18:17 - That's me on the right in a Red/White jersey (Audax England). I still remember leaving Brest feeling fast and fresh (unlike in 2011).
The only difference was that I made it to Paris in 2011. I was totally unprepared for how cold it got overnight after leaving Brest. My neck and shoulders cramped up (as they tend to do in cold weather) and I just couldn't shake it off. I quit about 800km into the ride.
Ironically it would have been just as quick to ride to Paris as figuring out the public transport involved.
If you have never ridden with sleep-deprivation it's difficult to convey just how bad your decision making can get (or how difficult buttons and zips can become).
Thank you for posting this. PBP 2015 was my first PBP event and I focused on finishing rather than collecting photos/videos.
+SombreroLDN Congrats on finishing! I've been making videos for a few years, so I've been able to practice ways to get footage that don't take a lot of time or effort. Glad you like the results.
P.S. I used a Garmin VIRB camera for all of the on-bike footage. Some of the off-bike stuff was shot with my iPhone.
This is compelling video. I think it's the first PBP video I've seen that makes me regret that I did not do the event (or anything like it).
Don't wait, you still have time.
enjoyed watching this video. thanks for posting.
Thank you!
Felicitations. Super film en plus..
You are a beast bro hopefully I can log those type of miles and one day do this event
Congrats on finishing well. Thanks for the video share here.
Fantastic, thanks for sharing
Felicitaciones amigo! Saludos desde Mérida, Venezuela.

Great video and great accomplishment! Congrats.
+Jim Stansbury Thank you! God willing, I'll be back in San Quentin in 2019 to do it all over again.
Very great video. Gives a great impression.. Who knows if I will give it a try.

great video......thanks!
You're an inspiration!
Very cool. Definatley inspiring!
Big thanks for posting your experience, as you say for us cyclists its like an "Everest" just getting to Brest and then finding the stamena to return to base.
WELL DONE and hope to see your next record ride..
+Peter Brown Thank you! I hope to be in Paris again in 2019 for the next edition of the ride.
Parabéns, quem sabe um dia eu faço este lindo trajeto!
Amazing video.did my 600 yesterday. God willing Will try this one some day.
Amazing!

Very nice video sir.
Great video. I remember you, nice bike. That’s me behind you in the finisher’s photo at the end. Fourth rider, in yellow top on my red Cinelli. Bravo
Thanks for sharing.Seems like we’ve run parralel PBP’s, though I’m from Australia. Also did the past three PBP’s in similar times in the 84 hour category. Bonus was to spot myself as you were just finishing.Look forward to your next.
I hope to be in France again in 2019! See you there.
Plan to be there!
Ride safe till then my friend.
howard dove Spotted you in there Howard, at he finish I think. Hard to miss in the NSW jersey!
Great video - for a beginning randonneur (although I have about 30 years of cycling experience), what would be your top 5 (or more) tips for training for and completing PBP?
Nice video thank you and maybe see you 2019
Great video. Thanks for posting. I'm thinking of doing PBP in 2019 for the first time. Can you recommend some reading material to help me prepare for it? Perhaps some peoples personal journals about what they experienced? Thanks again!
King: I've started a series of "PBP Tips" videos covering a wide range of topics to help you get ready for PBP 2019. Check them out on my UA-cam channel: www.UA-cam.com/campyonlyguy
Did you have a tracking divice on your bike? If you got the route, would you share it?
Always looking for these kind of rides!
You had a lot more rain that we did in the evening-start 90-hr group. I only hit it at Mortagne on the way back.
+John E Luck of the draw, really. We hit a small storm cell in Villaines, and another after Carhaix. A few minutes either way, and we would have missed them.
A fantastic race, did the race i 1991..when i was 100 years celebration.?
was the florescent top you was wearing the london cycling campaign jacket?
Yo Bro...fantastic vid. I'm on your 2013 Seattle to Portland vid. I'll be doing it again...one day...this year...2013. My streak was broken 2021 and 2021 because of COVID. Saw this one...and...just wanted to say you are freaking awesome!!! what an inspiration. I want to record my ride. What equipment are you using? Hope to see you on the road one day. Happy trails!!!
Thanks! My 2015 video was recorded mostly with a Garmin VIRB video camera (which I still have). In my opinion a great camera for recording on the bike. Its only limitation is that it maxes our at 1080P video, although for UA-cam that's not really a problem. Nowadays I mostly use a Rylo 360 camera, which takes 360-degree video that can be used a variety of ways (different zooms and viewpoints) in post. All of my talk-to-camera shots since 2018 have been recorded with it.
Beast of luck with your riding--will you be in France this year?
Respekt 👍💪💪
way to go. !!!!
respect!!! A Garmin ride or map?
I love the guy who kiss his bike at the arrival.
awesome, chur
I want a ride In Paris- Brest!!!
Great Video! I have a riding partner doing it now. yanto63, I'd love to hear how your ride went
Eric shot many videos covering EVERY aspect of this ride called "PBP tips".... if you are thinking about participating, you would be an idiot not to watch them ALL. Packed full of useful information.
11:12 - some guys are already returning from Brest on Day 1 itself?! How the hell????!! They were averaging 55 kph?
Your video is great. I'm planning to do PBP next year for my first time. And what about you?
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed the video. PBP 2019 is on my list, so it's just a matter of staying on the bike between now an then! Hope to see you in France!
that has to be the most anticlimactic finish ever
nice video! hope to join you in 2019 :)
Cool team 😜
did you carry a lock of some sort? if so, what kind?
great
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video.
I have participated in 2007 and 2011 is the best for yourself
how i know if i cant take de pbp, im over thinking about, and i just 2 days to de decide.
If you're not sure, I would go ahead and complete your registration. See how you are feeling over the next month or so and make a final decision.
Ok.
The registration page does not allow me to choose between 80 and 90 hours as well as the departure time. But I already sent an email question about this.
fight fight fight‼
A bit late but fantastic effort. Well done .
21:47 I see at least 2 riders without headlamp lol
How do you possibly ride for so long? Your backside must be killing you!
How is the end, do the people stay to have a final party or everybody leave immediately Thanks
The organizers provided a post-ride meal inside the velodrome in 2015. Most people take advantage of that. In years past, there's been a USA post-ride celebration a day or two after the ride; I attended that in 2011 but not 2015. A very fun event--the inevitable swapping of stories from the ride, and a representative from the ACP came to talk about ride results.
