  • Make an eel (unagi) trimming knife.
    The common eel-handling knife front points and lines were reinterpreted to make them more comfortable and sharp.
    It is a specialized knife that trims eels with a kiridash type knife.
    total length of 285mm
    blade length of 130mm
    knife neck length 35mm
    handle length of 120mm
    blade thickness 4mm
    I made a handle with ebony black stripes and put the line in brass and polycarbonate.

    Question: It looks to me like you are using CA glue for your glue up, any reason why CA over 2 party epoxy? Just curiosity

    • @artisticson2275
      @artisticson2275  3 роки тому +1

      Answer: A little exclamatory Superglue. It's fast and powerful.
      The disadvantage is that you have to work quickly and accurately.

    I really like the designs of your knives and your manufacturing process. There is something that keeps me from sleeping ... I don't understand what you do with the oscillating multi-tool. Do you polish the metal? Why?
    Thank you.

      It is used to remove the sandpaper marks of the belt grinder and to achieve smoothness.

    • @aldenunion
      @aldenunion 3 роки тому +2

      Does the Oscillating tool work faster than sanding down through grits? I often use 5160 from antique Auto salvage yard,would they be strong enough for all types of smoothing,forge scale,sand lines, age scale,etc? I need my shop set up properly,that is the key...
      I have hand allergy to Carbon and get rash in palms of my hand,even working in gloves is great habit to perform.
      Enjoyed your presentation.

      @@aldenunion Yeah, I've got the same question; I see that it's an oscillating tool, but it looks like a cutting attachment, not the triangular sanding attachment. I'm more asking what attachment are you using in the video and is it non-standard or something I could expect to find at any hardware store? Hand sanding is the worst so anything I can find to avoid it is of interest to me!!

    Ok I'm still learning. Why did you use your compressor to cool your blade down.

    • @T_L_D
      @T_L_D 3 роки тому +2

      it's called "plate quenching" - the aluminum absorbs heat rapidly, and coupled with the compressed air, cools just as quickly as oil, and if done well, more evenly.
