“Action Jackson” should’ve had sequels, action figures, cartoons, comic books, video games, and a host of other things that should’ve built that film into a forever going and successful franchise in cinema history.
Jericho “Action“ Jackson should’ve been just as big & successful as Die Hard’s John McClane. It’s an absolute travesty.

Great point. And how about Carl as the protagonist in Die Hard? He would have been perfect.
Not that I have any complaints about what Bruce Willis achieved. My point is that was exactly the kind of role Carl was overlooked for. Shame on racist Hollywood…the self proclaimed “bastion of liberalism.”

However, none of us knew the man. I never heard the man complain about his career.
Some actors are content with supporting roles and actually prefer them over leading roles.
Also, maybe he didn’t have the best agent. We can only speculate.

The truth is they limit all movie/TV viewers to 1 black star while Hollywood has 50 Caucasian counters. They don't want multiple black actors because of fear it'll overshadow others.
There's heavy obvious racism but that's an inconvenient conversation for those who don't want to acknowledge it, it's 2024 and nothing's changed.

I have been a Carl Weathers fan ever since I saw Rocky 2 days after it won the Best Picture Oscar. Rocky was a character driven Drama about achieving your dream. In the first film, Rocky tells Adrian that there's no way for him to win, but if he goes the distance that, in itself, will be a victory. Unfortunately, the Rocky films turned from an artistic endeavor into a long MTV music video in Rocky III and Rocky IV.
Weathers had his own starring role as the title character Action Jackson. But it didn't succeed at the box office. He also starred on his own Detective show called Fortune Dane. Hollywood has never been kind to men with muscles and he isn't any different. Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Fox had no muscles but trained as actors.

Carl Weathers has a very refined, almost elegant style of acting that is a little bit niche, and adaptable to any format that requires a respectable figure who supports the rest of the cast, whereas Denzel has a very leaderlike approach, where know matter where he is, he always seems to be able to project a sense of all-knowing wisdom, and that wisdom is applicable to everything, therefore it can spread and show itself in any film he's in, causing it to be successful. It's just two different types of people who contribute to films in different, but uniquely critical ways, which is necessary for the film industry as a whole because it means you're never lacking in what you need, which is just as important as being a top tier success.

After the Black political activism of the 1960's and 70's, Reagan era Hollywood were affraid of promoting culturally overt, assertive and physically imposing dark-skinned Black Leading Men. So, the likes of professional Actors like Billie Dee Williams, Weathers, Poitier and Washington, Fishbourne and Jackson only had the option of being the leading men in theatre and indie flicks, until Eddie Murphy's "less imposingly" wiley Black Guy trope during the mid-1980's opened up Hollywood for Black Playwrighs, Producers and Directors like Alice Walker, Spike Lee, Robert Townsend and the Wayans Brothers, whom, in turn, created more roles for leading Black Male Actors in mainstream Hollywood by the Late 1980s.

Denzel's appeal is he makes all his characters believable and I always found the same to be true of Carl. Carl once said that as much fame and exposure playing Apollo Creed brought him, he believed it typecast him in the eyes of Hollywood for a long time. I personally believe that he should have easily been nominated and won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Apollo Creed in Rocky. He was a great actor and person who brought his best to whatever role he played.

Not really sure the title does this video (or rather Mr. Weathers) justice. However, it was a great showcase of his career achievements.
Please edit the audio better though, the jumping of the music throughout was irritating, voice balance waa generally great.
It was refreshing to *not* have his personal life flung in their also, a lovely touch.

    R.I.P Carl Weathers.
Hoping that Wesley Snipes does get shutout by Hollywood.

Honestly when you look at black actors there are quite a few where you wonder why their careers didn’t take off, or should have been much bigger than they were, especially when you look at how many starred in hugely successful films and yet didn’t get equally big follow up films.

The only problem with Action Jackson was the writing..not Carl
That should have been on par with Taken. A roll he also would have been great in.

I wish they would have had him play T’Challa’s father (Killmonger’s uncle) in an extended role in Black Panther or something. That would have been a little weird though, with him being Adonis Creed’s father Apollo.
Btw, they shouldn’t have killed off Apollo.
Maybe he could’ve played an aged John Stewart/Green Lantern.

When Carl Weathers was on the Call Sheet he was the THE BEST on that sheet..And that includes if he acted along side Denzel Washington; which seems to be not the case

It's possible Hollywood might have more acting talent than it has film making talent. One could make arguments for him perhaps arriving at the wrong time, or whatever, and there is validity to that. The only thing I know for sure is, it's a tremendous loss we didn't get to see his amazing talent more. But, his body of work is that of one of the most captivating, versatile actors, period. He sold every scene, while also stealing it by just being the personification of charisma. You were looking at him, every time he was on screen. And damn if that doesn't say something.

Only hollywood insiders can truely answer this, anything else is just the usual internet BS. That being said it does make you question why the likes of Louis Gossett Jnr who LITERALLY stole the IRONEAGLE franchise away from Jason Gendrick due to his onscreen talent didn't get more opportunities in the 80s.

I think Weathers did have his opportunities, but his shows and movies he starred in weren't successful. Also he wasn't the actor that Denzel is. I'm reminded of Dereck Luke who was touted as the next Denzel. If Boseman hadn't died so young he could have been
    the next Denzel.
Now its up to Michael B Jordan to be the next Denzel.

So bc he did reach the heights of Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Eddie Murphy & others success, it must be discrimination of a black actor. Makes total sense. 😂
