I agree, it seemed like there was one missed assignment on each play. the RBs need to take some criticism also. I hoping Cain is healthy. He seems like he’s the only one who can hit the hole consistently.
Could be wrong on this but I feel like they had to spend so much time getting Clifford and the pass game going that the run game suffered. I also see a lack of explosiveness from Cain. He’s not as aggressive as he was. Maybe the injury is the issue
I think they'll get it going. I'm not sure who but I've heard the defenses we faced are not something of the familiarity they're used to as most big ten teams play a traditional 4 3 scheme.
On that zone read with Lovett in, I understand why Clifford keeps and hindsight is 20/20 but it looks like Lovett would run right by that edge defender, maybe have to slip an arm tackle and be in open space. The gap filler off the edge is free and easy so it seems like this was more about getting beat on the play call, since both guys were free? It looks to me like PW wouldn't have even had a chance to get to that backer on the play if he was supposed to.
So it’s not a talent or scheme problem it’s more of an execution problem caused by mental mistakes? I would like your thoughts on why they can execute so well on pass but not the run. Also I think the RB’s seem like they’re just not hitting the holes quick enough. Seems like there’s some type of split second delay in decision making. Probably caused by their confusion from a small assignment mistake.
Pass blocking always gels before run blocking, it's less complicated. Teams that run the same way each year have an advantage because of this. I do believe they will turn around the ground game at some point. I don't know if it will be before Iowa unfortunately.
We know these TEs can block--they did it well last year. Main problem, it seems, is that they have to hit a lot of moving targets this year, where they seemed to do more down-blocking last year. Given the caliber of athlete we have at the position, you have to think it is only a matter of time till it clicks with them.
I think the pace at which some of these plays are being run factors in to some of the missed assignments as well. Honestly, the learning curve in this offense has been shorter than we all expected, but there are still some nuances to master...like blocking assignments on the fly.
@@ForTheBlogy yes I think that was a really good point. Blocking assignments are sometimes not very straightforward, so maybe Yurch will adjust for a week or two
Upset would have been a blowout if Clifford wouldn't have got injured!!! My Nittany Lions were in rythym and moving the ball at will!!! We are still really good and this season is definitely not lost, depending on Clifford's health of course? Defense is nasty good and I would put them with anyone in the country, you can't keep them on the field all fuckin night though, getting stops over and over again!!! We will be ok Nittany nation!!! We are
We're doing a DEEP dive into this topic when our spring football vids get published in March-April. We have All-22 tape of all the games you mentioned, so it will provide great angles of some not-so-great OL play.
I agree with this guys assessment, but whoever said N. Cain seems like the only running back that can read the right hole is wrong!!! He doesn't look the same after the broken leg from last year!!! I think K. Lee needs to get a rhythm and Franklin, I love him, but he needs to quit putting different backs in and pulling them out, no consistency and rythym guys? 🤦 The talent is definitely there, but we need to stick with 1 for a while?
I kinda agree, but a running back can't get any rythym and going if we keep changing them up? I just know if Clifford wouldn't have got injured we would have pulled away from Iowa and won easily, fact? But, that's football, I think we can get him possibly healthy though!!! Bye week, don't need to rush him back verse Illinois, and a another week of rest before the Buckeyes!!! We still can control our own destiny, and meet them scumbag Iowa cornholers in the big ten title game!!! We are
I think coach Franklin is awesome, how he doesn't talk about injuries to the media, unless someone is done for the year!!! Sorry, PJ we love you and that will hurt, but we are pretty stout and deep on the defensive line!!! I personally think, Clifford has this, next week, because we can beat Illinois in Happy Valley and get Taquan more properly prepared!!! That would actually give Clif 3 weeks, before going into Columbus, and if they can keep him in a clean pocket, this season is definitely not lost, and we have everything in front of us Nittany nation, let's hope it goes the way I think it can? 👍
I definitely agree now as well!!! The offensive line is playing below the standard definitely, but running backs aren't doing shit as well, no vision and patience and finding holes? Caziah Holmes should get a start in my opinion, honestly? What would it hurt? Lol Disgusting
These film studies are really informative. I look forward to them every week.
THANK YOU FOR THIS! I've been trying to tell people that this isn't an o-line issue and have been getting ripped for it!
Great analysis.. thanks!
I really appreciate that you took some plays which had a positive and were still able to show where there were problems.

Really well done. Thank you!
Appreciate it, Connor.
Great insights. Thanks, Coach!
Anyone remember back in 2014 when Andrew Nelson and Brian Gala blocked each other? Can only imagine the Monday, team meeting.

Poor Traut gets blamed for everything. Plenty of blame to go around here.

O line and we don’t have a speed/elusive back like we normally have
I have Penn State on upset alert in my week 5 predictions video

We should be able to block against Villanova. Show the Iowa tape, show the OSU tape, show the Michigan tape. It's not the talent. It's coaching.

some of those are mental mistakes, but holes in the scheme.
Tight end coach isn't good. They are soft.
Franklin and his coaches all suck is your analysis for everything. You still hoping for Franklin to take the USC job?
@@hdubya692 usc didn't want Franklin anyway lol.
