I have a later model sx-70 alpha 1 which has a tripod mount and neck strap attachment hooks while still maintaining the classic look of the original sx-70 but i still want to get an autofocus model because they look and function in a super cool manner
thank you so much for this video! my mum bought this camera a long time ago for only £2 at an auction and she never even used it or took it out of its box, and she recently gave it to me as a gift, this video helped a ton with the information and I just ordered the film! thanks a bunch
My SX70 does not attach directly to a tripod, but it has the extra tripod add on that could have purchased when the camera was sold originally, when i bought mine second hand, it came with the tripod holder accessory. Also there is a anther accessory for the flash. Not the one that sits on top of the lens, this one is on the side.
I have an Alpha 1 SX 70. It has a tripod mount and strap lugs. I use a Peak design strap on it because the attachments for the strap are perfect on this camera and the strap is easily detachable if needed be. The camera can shoot 600 film. I love that it is compact when folded. The sonar sounds nice but seems bulky, but may be my next purchase if I find it a good price.
1.. the alpha models had the mounts on the model1s and strap locks 2. Why not convert your cameras to 600 to shoot in low or bright light situations? Eliminate the nd filter. Good information though.
several owners of SX-70 with the cap conversion to 600 type film have issues with the shutter assembly (which is not modified). The camera was not designed for this, and so at times struggles to get the correct exposure. For the conversion you would also have to remove the leather, which lowers the reselling value. The first models have real leather backing, which is often still in surprisingly good condition.
I don’t know that “auto step” is. There’s the Polaroid OneStep. But that’s a non-folding Polaroid camera. There was only ever a “sonar autofocus” SX70 folding camera
Hi. One of the great advantages that you forgot to mention about those cameras that what you see through the viewfinder it is what you will get as you are watching through the lense. Thanks. I came here as I have an offer and I wanted to know what I would get.
Thank you making this vid, helped a lot with my Polaroid sx70 sonar, plz make a tutorial on how to take better photos with it in low light and sun light, I always take dark photos 😢
SX70 is just generally hard to shoot with. There really isn’t a cut and dry way of doing it because the cameras are so old that they each have different exposure traits. I have 2 SX70 cameras and both have very different responses to changing the exposure settings.
Great Polaroid Camera very helpful review tutorial video, thanks I've learned a lot about this amazing instant film camera. It's a true Classic notebook SLR. Just great. Thanks
Yeah I’m thinking about buying a sonar SX-70…Maybe one that comes with an electronic flash too…it Will probably cost 5X more than what I paid for my original SX-70 I found locally. But being the obsessive collector I am, I’ve paid WAAAAY more for certain cameras online! *Cough* Bolex h16 Rex 5 *Cough*
I have to say it was pleasure watching your video. Great production value. Very well done. I have both cameras as well. Just ordered some film and look forward to start using them again. Do you use the exposure compensation dial much when you shoot?
Witch do you recommend I’m interested in the both. End what with people who where a glass like you end me does it focus on the glass or the face? Let me know? End what is the difference of the sx70 film or the converted to 600 film
I’m not sure what your first question is, but the difference between SX-70 film and converted 600 film is the chemistry. SX-70 film is less sensitive and has a different chemical set for the colors. 600 film is more light sensitive and produces different color tones.
@@GarrettCrespo well I’m interested in the sx alpha 1 en olso de sx70 sonar but I’m not shure witch one to buy end olso witch one I would convert. Some people say convert the sx70 alpha 1 to 600 end let the sonar be sx70 film?
@@biancavanverdegem6721 If you want to be able to take "point and shoot" style shots that are in focus, go for the SX-70 Sonar. If you are ok with using manual focus (easy to see through the viewfinder) then the SX-70 will suffice and it is more portable. You can shoot P600 film by using a ND pack filter which is put on the filmpack before shooting, but the SX-70 film has more true to life colors. Then there is the MINT Flashbar wich lets you expose 600-Type film in the SX-70 using its medium power setting. There is also the MINT Lens Set, which contains a ND Filter lens to put on the front lens of the SX-70. This will not change shutter speeds though, so you need flash and perhaps a tripod for indoor pictures. Some repair companies can convert the lightmeter for 600 speed film. With that you lose the ability to shoot SX-70 film and it can introduce some problems, as the shutter is not designed for very fast speeds needed for ISO 600 film. Polaroid 600 film packs have 4 little plastic noses which should prevent them from being used in SX-70 type cameras. You can cut them off with a blade. Forcing a 600 type pack in the SX-70 poses the risk of bending the mechanics of the film pack slot.
Not sure where you heard that, but Retrospekt is very much legit. Had my SLR 680 refurbed there and have bought a decent amount of stuff from them with no issues

Me too. If you need a tripod socket and strap attachments buy a model that has them.

Mask up part threw me off :) thanks for the video !!

Sx-70 sonar is the better option IMO, the only thing I feel sucks is carry it around, I always feel like I’m going to snap the sonar housing.
I love this camera! I had one earlier but it was damaged beyond repair in 2020. I managed to purchase another this year and am happy with it!
Hey man quick question? Are you able to take of the autofocus thing?
No. It’s a part of the whole camera, so you can’t take it off. You can turn it off though.
Have you thought about a Leung washer type attachment to added on under you quick release mount to create a strap attachment?
I can see a use for my 5 lb hammer. I would break off that contraption. It's an eyesore. Kinda looks like some parasite attached to the SX70

I got o manual focus only SX-70s is on eBay for $40
Had a few cosmetic issues. I'm glad I bought it.
Very excited just got one for $16!
Hey, do you know what the difference between the sonar autostep sx70 and the sonar autofocus sx70 is. Both look exactly the same. Planning to buy one.

Damn. I lucked out. I got mine for $1 at my local thrift store

I covered that in my original SX70 video
hi, how to remove the solar auto focus kit
You don't. There are two versions of this camera. One with it and one without it. If you get the autofocus model, the module never comes off.

Alot of sx-70s have built in tripod mounts
Just got one for free from a pawn shop! Might try a 600 film conversion sometime

Looks like a big lighter, with a small lighter on top
why bother with autofocus when you can just look through the lens?
Because it’s faster than adjusting the focus manually. Same reason autofocus exists in modern cameras
