  • radio has been off about 300 Hertz. It was aligned to the "swarm" average of several 80 meter QSO's this morning.

actully you won't be transmitting. with the ic-730 in CW mode for a signal to go out the key has to be shorted and the the transmit button has to be depressed at the same time for an Rf signal to be sent. If you just short the key and leave the transmit button in recieve, only a tone will be generated.check out the page which talks about transmitting a CW signal it explains thisJim

Hie Jim, The "frequency error" by this IF shift of the slider would be 50 Hz by slider slightly to the left in this test, by one tick width. The slider's tick mark and the reference mark were so that the shift was about the width of the white tick mark off. ie about 1 mm. To even measure this I went off 100 hertz with the VFO then the slider had to be moved twice as far as in the video above. Thus the error is one half of the smallest jump this unit will do ie one half of 100 hertz. I did a video this morning at this link: ua-cam.com/video/3rDZkIDpzVQ/v-deo.html . I wonder if you have a goofed up Icom 730 since you mentioned " IF band slider is way off center any signal you hear with this off center wont sound right "?
With my two units here the pitch change of folks voices, a carrier tecwas about 1/2 of 100 hertz on one unit and say maybe 1/2.5 on the other. ie a 50 to 40 hertz error with the tick on the slider and reference ticks so they touch but are at the limits ie white still touches white. ie IF shift of 1 tick width.
