Just bought one of these today. Have not put it on the air yet. I want to go through the pc board and check to make sure that there are no leaking CAPS or such. I'm kind of excited.
Yep, my Preamp, Write and Memo don't work either. It powers-up near band start. Battery for back-up needs to be replaced. I just deal with retuning and don't think about mem/ write function. Preamp is a relay problem.
Very Good video .I buy a same model recently but l dont have a microphone. Where l can bu y a icom hm 7 or another microphone that funcion well Whit this radio? Thanks you very much..
+Angel Torres I think the HM-7 is a dynamic pre-amp microphone. See this link that says "First, are the original "zero" models: 701, 720, 730, and 740. " "These had no microphone preamplifier, it was build into the microphone. Without the original microphone you will have to use an outboard preamp such as a W2IHY or a small mixer/preamp." www.heilsound.com/amateur/support/dsp-settings/all-things-icom Try Ebay for a microphone or one can use a preamp with a regular microphone.
I picked up the same model recently.. What kind of antenna/tuner setup are you using, by chance? I'm trying to get a G5RV to work, with a home brewed tuner.. One thing I'm seeing, with my scope and meter are a
KF7PCL Thanks for the reply.. It ended up being the power transistors on the output section being blown out.. I've since got me a nice Yaesu FT-101EE and I have no problems.. Thanks!
Do i need to have the microphone on the radio to just receive? I found this radio in a box of one dollar items. I'm only interested in using it as a receiver. Looks like a great old radio. Can't wait to play with it.
Correct. No microphone required to receive. The radio draws an amp or two in receive mode. A short 10 ft piece of wire string inside will work to pickup louder stations. Regards
@@3beltwesty Thanks so much for the information. And the fast response. I can use my power supply for my extra tv for power. It's 12 volt, 2 amp. Hate tv now days. Thanks again.
I have 2 of these. I bought my 1st one 30 years ago. They are great radios!
Good video . 73
I like that rig. Great radio. 73!

Can you borrow a dummy load?

Very good video.
What antenna do you use?
+oscarburd In that video I am just using a crude makeshift indoor antenna, a piece of wire about 8 ft long draped over a curtain rod.
+3beltwesty thanks!
can you transmit on that antenna or is it just for receiving? I'm looking for a rig like this but not sure what to do about an antenna.
Does your unit transmit on the warc Bands? Mine will only receive on warc.
