I could absolutely see someone who uses mouse and keyboard for these games having a slight advantage over controller players; fighting Sephiroth with the extra field of view provided by the mouse and the mashing speed of clicking on the mouse made me land stuff like slapshot/reflect combos without missing a single beat. if it didn't look so weird with the way the camera behaves differently, i might've considered using it in the long term, but it probably sucks for stuff like KH1 where the camera is waaaay more limited
Ngl these controls don’t seem weird at all. The only strange one I see is pause being mapped to an and not escape. Everything else is pretty standard for a third person action game on pc
Wtf are those bindings Jesus Christ? Currently suffering through KH3 with m+kb, because the first time I held a controller was with 18, so I never got used to them, it's the only way I can play 99% of games. The 1% are Nintendo games with a Pro Controller.
This how I played my second playthrough of 1 and first playthrough of 2, and Ven’s story in bbs. I got a controller a few months ago so now I can join the war about which button cure is on
It's how I played all the games when I first got the Epic Games ports. It was very funny to work with, especially the camera shenanigans. But I somehow managed. Then I got a controller. Let me tell you, I was somehow worse with that.
always played KH with controller, but recently my controller broke and i played KH3 from start to finish with mouse and keyboard, it was actually pretty good, at the star the adaptation phase was rough, but since i already played the game, on the second world i was already pretty familiar with the controllers
I actually play all the KH games with KB+M, I think it works just fine for the most part but some minigames or whatever are clearly designed with joysticks and then break with mouse input. Also the camera sensitivity is all over the place which is annoying but you get used to it. Back in the day I used to play keyboard only on PCSX2 lmao, still worked fine though. I would have loved them to take full advantage of the keyboard for the PC ports so you could bind individual commands to keys, how cool would that be?
We need a KH game on PC that is meant for PC. Imagine actually getting to use the number keys for spells like in MMO's. Edit: fuck it, I got nothing better to do. Imma theorycraft a dumb idea for a PC exclusive take on the command deck. Instead of using MP to cast spells, take the BBS/ReCoded/DDD approach to special abilities, where you create a deck of commands that automatically cycle when you use them. However Instead of it being one long list, you always have four options available, which are activated with the 1, 2, 3, & 4 keys respectively. Using one will cycle all four options, but holding down one of the number buttons allows you to combine commands. This function can also be used on the normal attack button to trigger special combos. I think the idea of shotlocks and airstep should also make a return for PC. On console, it feels super clunky and risky in even the best of circumstances. On PC, it is absurdly easy to just look at an enemy and either zoom at them or blast 'em with free ranged damage. As a mechanic, it legitimately works better on PC. An experimental change I want to see playtested would be ditching the idea of combos automatically homing in on enemies. It's a staple of Kingdom Hearts, hence why I say it'd need playtesting, but I feel like PC is far better suited for run 'n' gun combat than the kind of combat KH has. The mouse just provides so much control that it becomes really easy for players to orient themselves, so they shouldn't need to home-in on enemies to be effective. I can see some potential problems with air combat, but if airstep is present then that doesn't really matter.
I think Keyboard and Mouse controls could work really well, if you could separate bindings from buttons. As in, Circle is both for jumping and going back in menus, but I'd prefer jump on Space and menu-back on Right-Click. Lots of things like that make it feel impossible to make a control scheme that's natural both in combat and menus.
The game looks completly different, at least camera view wise, it gives it a bit less flow (especially with the WASD movement) but it looks like a honestly fun/good way to play it watching this! The major downside is that KH2 doesn't seem like it was optimised for keyboard controls
I beat most of my critical mode run on this video, I state before the video starts, lets see how this goes. (Used a controller randomly just cause comfort and used to it, and for gummie segments.)
I mean theoretically you could emulate the game and bind all the controls to keyboard and mouse that way too. Legally though, yeah the Epic Games port is the only way you can iirc
DEFAULT KEYBOARD AND MOUSE CONTROLS:
Attack/Confirm Menu - Left Click or Enter
Jump/Cancel Menu - Space Bar or Backspace
Guard/Dodge - Right Click or Right Shift
Reaction Commands - F or Right CTRL
Pause - M or 4
FPS mode - N or 3
Open Shortcuts - Left Shift
Lock-on - R
Toggle Cursor Controls (the thing that lets you control the command menu with the right stick) - C
Change lock on target - E
movement is on the typical WASD
Walk - Alt (this forces you to slow-walk, but it breaks and makes Sora run if you turn the mouse)
Reset Camera - Middle Mouse or Right Alt
menuing is done with either the arrow keys or the mouse wheel for up/down and side mouse buttons for left/right
(the camera behaves differently with the mouse, thats why its like glued to sora instead of drifting behind him)

I managed to beat roxas on crit keyboard only, no mouse involved, so they have some degree of usability.

Don't forget shift key to say APple

I gotcha now!
Now i imagine Xigbar/Luxu is a Keyboard and Mouse player and probably loves lots of FPS games

KH2 with KB+M is better than expected.
KH3 with KB+M turned me into a god.

The Keyboard has been forged!

This seems like a perfect game for analog stick movements but mouse for attacking. Would probably feel even better than this
43:28 That was probably the coolest thing I've ever seen anyone do in KH2, I assume magic lock-on lets you do that?

KH3 is the best keyboard and mouse Kingdom hearts for shotlocks alone.
I honestly find kh with mouse and keyboard really comfortable

speaking of which i was just watching one of the streams for this particular thing when I was eating lunch lol so this is a welcome surprise
Honestly, anything other than a playstation controller just feels so viscerally wrong to me lol
Keyboard and Mouse is definitely the best for Duel Stance, as scroll wheel and button spam is op as fuck.
I was wondering when someone would do this.
