Thanks for the fantastic run through! The self-oscillating filter along with the oscillator sounded especially nice. I have an SH-1 on route to me as we speak.
Thank you very much, and huge congratulations on your new arrival!! 🥳
That shaped noise was lovely :)
I’d never quite looked closely at the SH1’s layout, never realised how much of this was carried over to the Jupiter - the bender assignment sliders, the envelope placement, mixer placement, etc.
Lovely overdrive there too, definitely suitable for early Daft Punk usage had they been missing a Korg 😉
Was thinking the same on the Daftness...really hits that early timbre, hadn’t never put the SH1 in that field before!
Yes those early Rolands do share a lot of attributes, both cosmetic and electric... It's also quite lovely how different they are under the hood. It's like the Roland designers where continually finding new and better ways of getting the same jobs done. A golden age!
Lovely. The SH-09 was my first synth in the early 80s, similarly versatile for a single OSC but lacking some of the SH-1's options. Also a slightly different filter, at least so I've read. I felt the same as you did when I heard the SH-101, thought the the 09 was richer and warmer. I don't know who was responsible for the recycled tank look of this Roland era, but kudos to them.
Yeah, they look nice and mean! I got the drama teacher at secondary school to buy an sh-9 so I could make bird noises for the school play... Man I used to be able to blag!!
That brought back a lot if great memories.
Luvvely! 😊
This is what I call synth review. Real knowledge, experience and enthusiasm. The level well paid pink haired teenagers will never reach. Sorry pink haired teenagers and big companies.
Thank you very much! Maybe I should dye my hair and grab some of their views! Haven't done that since the early 90s, it may be time to break out the Clairol!!
I had one between 2010 and 2019 and sold it. I recently repeared the mistake and I have found another one, in better shape, so my baby is back at home!
That's good to hear. I very rarely see them for sale, and often wonder what I would do without it... An SH-9 maybe... Mind you, I can't remember seeing many of those recently! I'm glad to hear you've been reunited!
3:51 Daft Punk is Playin' at My House! 😆
Yes! I never plan what I'm gonna do with these, so there's often snippets of stuff slipping in. Well spotted!
Basssss
I can feel a Behringer re-make coming. And I'm gonna buy it! 😀
They've done the pro-one and cat, so this should be a doddle... Except, do the pro-one and cat use the Curtis chips that Behringer make now... I suppose they already did the 101, maybe they'll consider this merely a cosmetically different 101, and so not bother owing the 01... I'm waffling.
@@BOOelectric With B. it's always the question: "Will they or won't they?". They have announced a ridiculous number of synths. Some of 'm three years ago (the VCS3 to name one). And a good number have unique components that they managed to copy quite well. B. doesn't seem afraid to invest in unique components. Especially now that hey can also (re-)use 'm in their Eurorack Modular line. The Prophet VS springs to mind. I didn't even know it existed in the 80's and no well known tracks feature it. Yet B. copied it. So you never know. But now I'm babbling, ha ha. 😄
Anyway, thanks for the demo of this wonderful machine. I hope there's more classic synths to come.
I've just been lent a Korg 2600... Hopefully that's coming up! @@meneerjansen00
They have done the SH05.
