Welcome to Tangerine land!
awesome! My question now is: Blackbox or Tangerine? 🤔 What does Blackbox have that Tangerine doesn't? Has anyone tried/compared both?
Well the Blackbox has multiple outs, and more pads on a bigger screen, and there's cv control, while the Tangerine has more working samples per project (as far as I remember 500-and-something), and 24-note polyphony per project. And it's much smaller, which may, or may not be a bonus. If you check on the 1010music website: 1010music.com/ you can find all the spec. Hope this helps!
It looks like very useful sampler, but for the money?
You can get SP 404 mk II for that money.
Hi on 20:05 you mentioned you can have deferent sounds playing at different times, do you know if it can play different sounds playing all at at the same time? Thanks
yes it can. simultaneous stereo samples going up to 24 voices of polyphony.
@BOOelectric Wow thanks 👍 I Just ordered one.
Can you please tell me how to adjust start and end point after i sample on the unit directly? it just plays the sample back in a loop but i can't adjust start and end time...please help.......Nanobox Tangerine...
Hi there. Unfortunately I don't have my unit anymore, however from memory, and checking the quick start guide on the 1010 music website, I believe your sample (and I think it has to be in sample mode rather than slice or clip mode) can be edited by selecting the pad, pressing the right hand arrow to go into the macro page, pressing the right hand arrow once more to go into the waveform page. In the waveform page you should be able to select start end and loop points for your sample. As I say I'm afraid I can't confirm this because I no longer have the unit, and I see that the nano box manual is yet to be published. hopefully the full manual will be available very soon, but in the meantime I hope this helps. It's one of those things where it's very simple to use, but only once you know it's methodology, if you see what I mean. Good luck, and I hope that manual goes up soon!!
Can you sample from plugins like Keyscape?
It samples thru it's audio in, and sends midi notes to the instrument to do the multi-sampling, so basically, if an instrument or plugin receives midi and outputs audio, Tangerine can multi-sample it.
Will a sustain pedal work with it?
If your controller's got a sustain pedal on it, it should be fine to sustain notes, with up to 24 notes of polyphony per project shared between each of the 8 pads.
@@BOOelectric Thank you
Criminally underrated. It was an absolute joy to watch and listen to this video.
Thanks!!
Well that's sealed it for me!!
To my mind we have been missing a more trad sampler for a long time (yes I know blackbox etc) but the memory in this is way more usable.
I thought this was my idea of a cool sampler box and I'm more convinced than before. That moog sample sounded nice to my cloth ears
I completely agree! Once you get past the tiny form factor and realise what it can do, then become amazed all over again at how tiny it is (and easy to use)... it's pretty special. And it does have more memory than some of its bigger siblings... So much flexible fun to be had, and it really does sound amazing! Check out the Sonic State 5 minutes with video... i did basically the same thing, but with more organic sounds. So glad you enjoyed the vid!
@@BOOelectric alright mate :) so I'd been searching for something that meant I could use sounds out of my sample libraries without turning on the computer (and then getting all adhd distracted instead of jamming) and I reckon this answered one of my oldest wants as a result - portable high quality real sounds :)
Then I got my elektron "fam" for the rest of it.
Ps yes I'd seen the short :)
I need to see an Electron vid that stops me being terrified of them! My friend has the works, and delights in showing me what they can do, but after 5 minutes of the probability and complex if-then programming functionality I glaze over. I'm sure they're amazing, but I don't think I have the brane.
@@BOOelectric well eurorack killed my creativity with tech overwhelm - so I get that. I dunno why i get elektron way of working tbh! I suppose like anything it's taking the plunge or borrowing and start with only basic sequencing before you get into the parameter locks.
You could get a digitone or the keys version and use it purely as an awesome sound module for a bit? I love my digitone so much for its sounds and don't always use its sequencer
Great video and explanation!
How do you have the mpk controlling the 1010? Midi or usb c straight into it?
I bought one just cause of this video :)
Edit: a simple midi cable did the trick! These make a great combo!
Yes, it's just a midi connection! Hope you enjoy the tangerine!
Thank you very much!
If you have multiple synths/sample pads loaded onto a given preset does it take longer to load? I know the 1010 piano is close to 2 gigs and it took about 12 seconds to load. Would it be longer if you had other samples on other pads on the same preset that were similar size? I'm also curious if it's seamless switching between pads once a preset is loaded or if that takes additional load time.
Hiya, thanks for the question. Yes, though I haven't actually timed it, I'm certain that if you put different multisampled instruments on each pad the loading time would add up. But the good news is that once the pads are all loaded, if you set them to receive on different midi channels, you can switch completely seamlessly between them by switching the transmit channel on your controller. In fact, so long as you don't exceed the 24 voice poly limit, you could play them simultaneously... This is all solely from my experience using the unit for a short time, It would be worth checking the 1010 website for the full manual pdf when it gets published. Hope that helps.
The video I've been waiting for on this sampler. SOLD! Looks fantastic, thank you for this BOO! I'm excited to get myself one.
You are most welcome!
Excellent video. Great machine!
It sure is! Thank you!
A you do old school sampling with it.
If you mean start/end/loop points, and play a single sample up and down the keys... Yes you can.
Yeah. Think I'm sold on this one.
same man what a cool and feature packed little box
I'm the black gold of the suuuun! Sorry... Those chords at 13:45... :) clearly underrated sampler! Thanks for this overview! You won a suscriber :)
Haha! Well spotted, and with my clumsy fingers on those tiny keys, you deserve a musicology award of some sort. Thanks for the sub, and welcome aboard!
This looks pretty great! But I’d say a filter envelope is pretty much a necessity for synth sounds…am I correct in seeing that there isn’t one? That would be a future firmware item hopefully!
Yes, you're right - there's no filter envelope... it might be possible to use the lfo in sawtooth mode to fake a filter envelope, but I don't think it can go into one-shot mode... Yes please to a firmware update! How hard can it be?
