hello, I have a question, when SCA person is grading coffee in farms or processing stations. Do they grade it green or roasted or both? If they do grade it roasted, do they have roasting machines there? I am curious cause I am not sure they would have roasting machines somehwhere in kenya or ethiopia too

Nice question. It depends on the Producer or the Mill that they cooperate with. Some are more well resourced than others, but regardless there will be a great deal of knowledge and skill at origin.

    Screen 20 to 18 is grade A.
    Screen 17 to 14 is grade B
    Screen 13 to 8 is grade c
    Am i correct.

I wonder in terms of roasting - what percentage of beans of a different size start to make a noticeable difference of flavors in the cup? Thanks!

I have never seen data or experimentation to provide a number or percentage.
The evidence is more anecdotal and experiential from a roaster’s perspective.
In terms of the SCA grading for size the standard is “no more than 5% variance from the contract specification.” So if you buy an 18-20 size you can expect 95% of the coffee will be 18-20 screen size.

No, we only focus on SCA training currently. Good luck though and if you want to take any SCA courses, do let us know. 🤩
