She was my great-aunt on my father’s side. I met her as a child when I was 5 and was about to have eye surgery. She flew my family on her private jet, the Merriweather, and hosted us at Topridge before the surgery. I remember arriving by boat across the lake.

Dear friend: I knew Mrs Post and her daughter Dina personally; we were good friends. They lived on the next estate over from us in Old Brookville, NY. She was an amazing woman, who also invented the penthouse.

@@LJB103- You must be a Yankee. In the Deep South, they are absolutely related. - My junior high algebra teacher flunked me, for not showing my work, on perfect exams; that is, until the head of the math department found out and requested he give me, at the very least, a passing grade, for promotion to high school.
When we were released early on our last day of senior high, I went back to Alice Robertson to thank a few of my teachers; and, because he was also my chorus teacher, the last one I visited was Mr. Hearn. After chatting for a few minutes, he hesitatively asked about the intervention by Mrs. Raper. "Oh that" I replied, as I walked out. On exiting the room, I turned around to say "We're related. She is my step-grandmother's, daughter-in-law's mother.” and quietly closed the door behind me.

It's all thanks to her father teaching her the business when most industrialist business men especially during that time period wouldn't do such a thing and she also went door to door to sell for her father's business...

  • @LJB103

C.W. Post certainly died suddenly; he shot himself. Marjorie was about the only daughter of an industrialist who was taught the business by her father. She even went door to door selling his products. Hutton fought her when she wanted to buy out Clarence Birdseye for $2 million - Birdseye eventually cost General Foods $56 million. Her marriage to E.F. Hutton collapsed because he couldn't keep his hands off other women; Herbert May (May Company Department Stores) couldn't keep his hands off other men. FYI: her 1st husband Edward Close was the grandfather (through his 2nd wife) of Glenn Close. Excellent video.

Marjorie did a great service for preserving the jewels of the French monarchy and aristocracy as these exquisite pieces would have been cut down and the jewels sold individually or made into smaller pieces. She did the same for the preservation of Russian art. How did she avoid the great depression in the 1920s. I'd love to know that!

Many an heiress you cover on the channel seem to have met a rather sad end, yet this lady radiates warmth and fulfilment in everything she put her head to do, with beautiful art and jewellery and multiple projects to keep life beautiful and interesting. Think how many artisans she supported, how much wealth she shared by the means of phillantropy! What a life worth living!

I have always wanted to see her home in Hillside (well over 25 years) and finally did about 6 or so years ago. Her dad was the 1st Ambassador to Russia after the end of Tsar’s regime. He loved Russian art and artifacts and was given total access to warehouses where millions of dollars of things were stored. The country was poor so sold him many things. His mansion is the 2nd largest holder of Russian art & jewels of that time period. the mansion is full of beautiful things. I’ve read quite a few Russian novels and always wanted to see a Faberge Egg, I did. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of it all. Also, there was (& still is a docent (guide) named Vee who took her time and explained what certain pieces were. If anyone reading this likes Russian art or artifacts can visit Hillside, please do so.

He was impressed with the food products Kellogg created to serve his patients--but didn't want to market. So Post saw his opportunity....which made John's brother William establish his own company.
And now you know....the rest of the story. Actually,. not if Post was given one of Kellogg's yogurt enemas.

None were shown in this short doco but I did love the showing of the Faberge Eggs. The painting collection she had was AMAZING!
I saddens me that her Palm Beach mansion is now in the hands of The Orange Emperor and he practically stole it off her estate by threatening to build a multistory hotel in front of the mansion, blocking the view of the beach. The cost value dropped radically as a result and Trump bought it for a quarter or possibly less than its true worth. What a slime ball! Dirty tricks then, and dirty tricks now.

Ha! You’re an idiot. I’m saying that he’s losing subscribers because he has made reference to a situation that he knows only from what he has heard from an agenda-driven media. Best to keep modern-day political discourse out of the discussion on this site, unless one wants to dive in full bore and suffer what consequences may arise.

John Cusack played her father in THE ROAD TO WELLVILLE, the 1994 movie based on T.C. Boyle's novel.
Her first husband, Edward Bennett Close, was the grandfather of actress Glenn Close.
Her third husband, Joseph Davies, was a controversial ambassador: many viewed him as Stalin's dupe. (In the movie MISSION TO MOSCOW, based on his memoir, he was played by Walter Huston and she was played by Ann Harding.)
Her daughter Dina Merrill, thanks to her inheritance, was the world's richest actress. (Her second husband was Oscar-winner Cliff Robertson.)

....Mar-a-Lago, the penthouse in Manhattan, Hillwood, the camp, yacht, and an airplane. It was not just the money needed to build her lifestyle but the cost of maintenance and staff. Yacht and airplane maintenance alone are major guzzlers of wealth. Add to that the brick and mortar properties (realizing that she had divested herself of the yacht and the penthouse at different points in her parade of personal properties). One accounting placed her wealth at $112,000,000 upon her death (conservatively). It seemed that she lived larger than what her wealth would support--and I don't mean at all to be unkind by this observation. And her philanthropy during her lifetime was legendary. It has also been bothersome that she did not provide more substantially for her longtime and faithful employees. IShe was obviously a shrewd business person, knowing exactly how each move would impact her. I would really like to know what I'm missing here. And please, kindly replies. Thank you. Clueless in California.

Nicely done video series, but in this case, you need to check the validity of your statement about the FBI raid. To put it very simply, all US presidents have the legal right to declassify and retain documents relevant to their former tenure. This raid was intended as a political move undertaken by opponents within the current administration -- the idea was that the publicity of supposed wrongdoing would prevent Trump from running for re-election. As it turned out, he fact of the illegality of the raid, publicly displayed, anger not only of Trump's political base, combined with the scandalized response of the legal profession and that of many elected officials to effectively destroy what little credibility the FBI and the current Department of Justice has in the estimation of a large percentage of the American public.
