I did buy CAPCOMs fail of a game but that won't be a mistake I'll do any time soon again. Triple A games are just ruining it for themselves. They are all living in the shadow of Larian Studios and they keep doing the same mistakes over and over. It's almost like if they are robots or incapable of learning from past mistakes. True, but its nothing new. A lot of JRPG have mircrotransaction, and it's not new to Capcom either. People seem to forget about DMC 5, where you can buy the souls like currency to upgrade your weapon i forgot what its called. In all honesty, microtransaction is better in single player game than multiplayer games. It's like cheating rule. No one cares if you cheat in a single-player game. Just to add, i dont support microtransaction. Im just trying to point out that the outrage is late.

rift incense- can buy from specialized shop, or just build your pawn right first time (there was a character creator demo for a reason)
makeshift gaol key-you can duplicate a non-makeshift gaol key for cheap, thus rendering the makeshift one worthless
character editor (one time use)- can do in game with item found and bought in game, can buy a partial do over (hair/makeup,etc) with in game currency at the hairdressers
portcrystal-found and given to you in game by NPC's, NG+ let's you keep items you have already obtained, max on the field at any one time is 10
wakestones-found in game, in whole or as shards (need 3 to make a full one) drop rate high, can be bought in shops, can be sent over by other players via their pawn or by you completing objectives for their pawn, unneccesary but handy
rift crystals- given to you in game, droipped in game, looted in the world, completely uneccesary for the game to function, it's just an advantage if you have any to hire a higher level pawn, again, UNECCESARY to play the same, you can go through the entire game and not spend a single rift crystal

It's high time the developers divorce the publishers for good. Some of the best games I've played in the recent decade were self-published. You don't really need to bootlick the big corporations to sell a game anymore. UA-cam, Twitch, and, most importantly, word of mouth within player communities alone is more than enough (provided that the game is fun and, most importantly, stable on the launch day).
I can't recall an example from the recent couple decades where the Publisher's involvement was beneficial. At best it was neutral and didn't impact the game's fate either way. Alas, in most cases, it was harmful and resulted either in unfinished mess on launch day or unhealthy business decicions (MTX, timegated content, censorship). All that sadly always resulted in fallout also hitting the typically innocent developers. They paid the price, often becoming the scapegoat, while the publishers just moved to other projects unaffected.

Maybe down the line, once they fix the bugs and take away all the MTX. I'll buy it. I will not buy it when and only when that happens. The first game also had MTX and it was removed. So until it is here. I'm not touching it despite how long i have waited for the game I LOVE to get a sequel. It's sad and I hate it. But I refuse to buy it until it is better.

It's also a possible issue for people who want to have fun with CE, I don't think acquiring those items through "cheating" would adhere to Steam policies, since they're part of the game's revenue.

The thing with low FPS is that people are not defending it as much because it is something tangable, you can see that it effects a game in a bad way and so people say it's bad and other agree, with microtransactions you don't really see an effect if you don't participate (I mean you don't buy it you don't have it) and you can get those items later. But it may change the industry, it may mean that new MTX will be introduced later in the game that may be more outrageous, it may mean that the game will be more tedious to make MTX more appealing so as a overall practise it's bad, and so it is at this same time easy to defend and attack creating more drama than current real issues may have.

As for appearance, you had what? 2 weeks to make your characters how you want? Why didnt you? One point I would like to add is that I feel people are being unfairly harsh to Capcom for this. Cos mtx was there in DMC5, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter series. Yet, this got a huge fire for it. Why? I feel the build-up from the disappointments of other games being buggy on release or bad monetization has accumulated so much that the bubble burst and Dragon's Dogma 2 got the shit of it.
They are complaining as if the game has severely limited the player experience and would force them to give in to mtx like it is some kind of F2P game. This tells me they never played the game and those who do so said otherwise. Sure Capcom deserves the criticisms for the buggy release and mtx. However, I feel the main complaint was never ever about the game itself but all about buggy releases and mtx in general. I feel people are going way, waaay overboard with this. Hence, Dragon's Dogma 2 became the scapegoat as the prime target to vent that accumulated anger at. This is unfair.

The problem is that people can forgive one issue or two (take Helldivers 2 in example)... but when there are a lof of them... the forgiveness limit is exausted and then everyting is a problem... It's just adding... The MTX are just the final drop that makes people inrage.
Probably for some people the MTX are irrelevant, but when you have a big problem you can't stop asking yourself are this is not bad designed because of the MTX? In example (MINOR SPLOIRE FOR THE FIRST FEW MINUTES OF THE GAME) I had a crash on a griphon in the begining and the only autosave returned me in the place when the enemies killed me every time before I can control my character (the autosave places are questionable too)... and i didn't have a Inn save yet... so game over for me, 70 euro wasted for 5 minutes of gaming... I needed to delete the save file risking a Denuvo ban, this was the only option to play the game again... No option to restart... Why? Maybe becuase they need to sell the stupid MTX to change the chracter appereance if somebody pressed the wrong button in the character creation... I know that you can buy this in game latter, but not everybody know this espetialy in the begginig and if not watching youtube. I restarted many other games in the past in the first few minutes because I didn't like my character and they don't have a option to edit apperence at all(with is fine). Why here we don't have restart unless it's to sell the MTX for the people that don't watch youtube videos to know that later you can buy it in game? There is litteraly no other reason... The bigger problem is that this MTX combined with the crashes and the Denuvo breaks the game compability for some people. So the final in the MTX, if there wasn't a MTX, then there will not be a lack of restart, then the crash wloud not be a game breaking bug. And thet you start asking everytime when someting is even a little bit inconvinient... is it designed like this just to sell MTX?

Now these games are just selling "features" that aren't actually content. They are just trying to sell you stuff that require 0 actual dev work and only exist to psychologically bait you, usually by being time efficient, which seems to be what baits a lot of people. Amazing game, except for the trivial difficulty, mostly noticable in new game plus. The very mediocre story, both main and side stories. I like how they have impact on the overal experience, but having story walls and very little replay value to visit older zones more than twice... Gameplay itself is amazing, but you don't get any of the fun classes until mid-to-late game. A lack of build variety for pawns does hurt the sequel a little more than I expected. The gear creep trivializes almost 90% of ALL gear near endgame. Meaning, in order to perform optimally, you either have to grind a lot of the same content, or accept that almost all cool looking gear you encountered in a new game, becomes trivialized. Endgame pawn hiring, was always bad in the original, but in this one it seems that the 10.000 gold quest reward is starting to become mandatory. The bonus, ending where the world changes around you. Absolutely awesome, yet completely underdeveloped. Amazing boss fights for 1-2 tries, but kind of a joke after that. Since Dragons Dogma 2 will have similar DLC patterns to Monster Hunter and the original, we will 100% get an expansion that will turn a (now) 7/10 game with limited replay value (due to the lack of difficulty), into a game you can play for 400+ hours. Just like the original.
Capcom loves selling you the best Pizza's in the world, but you pay full price for a pizza margarita, and you pay double for a pizza with meat and veggies. They can't fix the story. Gear Creep won't go away. Difficulty is to be seen, possible (the same) hard mode, and if an expansion pack is released, it will likely deliver on all difficulty wants the playerbase has right now.

The problem is hype culture itself. People hyped this game for years before release, and the publisher saw that hype and ran it to the moon, then thought they could get away with more "squeezing" on the players' wallets. The publishers only care about ONE thing, and that's quarterly profits. They don't care if the game is good, or if players love the game or hate it. None of that matters. People STILL bought the game, even knowing the issues with optimization and the poor MTX decisions, because "they'll fix it." I can't count how many times this has happened in modern gaming.
    STOP. BUYING. INCOMPLETE. GAMES.
Totalbiscuit spent his entire career trying to inform us against this kind of crap. Stop preordering because they dangle some shiny cosmetic in front of you. Stop buying into hype because they released a cinematic. Wait for reviews from credible journalists or content creators you trust. Stop rewarding these crap publishers by buying these games with the expectation that it will eventually be what you hope it will. All you do is reinforce their behavior.

The game isn't good for the price tag. It's a sub-standard game with a lot of reviewers who seemingly haven't played any actual RPG games. There is no system or mechanic added to this game that's unique. The game is not an open world RPG, it's a linear tunnel crawler in very nicely "hidden" tunnels - a system of main roads between mountains. It's an action RPG with a mediocre story, an okay combat system and nothing really ground-breaking. The issue is that it costs 80 dollars when it should be 40. And obviously, MTX and bad performance/bad gameplay is just the cherry on top. Clipping, movesets being bugged and a lot of other issues. It feels rushed and completely unfinished.

While microtransactions are abhorrent, the real fuckery imo comes with the safe file/character change and Denuvo stuff. Whatever happened to games like this giving the player access to the dev console and such? Now we have malicious anti-cheat in single-player RPG's.
I'm sure the game is good, and I agree that criticism of the game itself should be kept separate from the rightful lynching the publishers deserve, but I actually can't stomach the fucking AUDACITY of Capcom to pull this shit, much less the idea of giving them even a cent for it. Maybe I'll try it if DD2 gets the Dark Arisen treatment, but for now I'm staying away on principle. This cannot be allowed to stand.

guys does the game actually looks good? it really gives me pre-2015 game vibes. for me, the city feels dead and the story isn't engaging. and unfortunately the lack of plot, NPCs isn't the publisher's fault. i really don't think it's worth the price, not even counting the microtransactions (and I also think that that was *the* problem - price + microtransactions, not just microtransactions alone)

They put Ian McShane in the commercial, and I wonder why? A great actor, I love him in films, but for commercial purposes? Of course, this doesn't come cheap. There really are a lot of people working in the industry who don't know what gaming is. Now cases like Sweet Baby, kutako are exploding, this has to stop now.

  • @LionofDawn
    @LionofDawn 6 місяців тому

No. The biggest problem is that this is sold as a sequel. But it's clearly a reboot.
It has nothing to do with the previous game. Even the title screen doesn't actually say "2".
As such it has given the developers both the freedom to add whatever they want, but also to return things that was once adressed before, but now they took a step back.
Dark Arisen gave us the Eternal Ferrystone as a response for the poor fast travel mechanics in the game, now we are back to regular ones.
And allowing us only 4 skills rather than the previous 4. WHY? This just lowered the versatility of the combat by a lot.
Especially when they removed the Strider and Assassin class.
Dark Arisen allowed us to play on hard mode, but not in DD2.
Also it has a lot of outdated stuff that was excusable 12 years ago but not today such as The brine being excuse for no swimming mechanics. And the game has no mount.
In a world full of monsters, but also oxes, even rabbits and goats and other creatures like from our world, we are to believe they have no horses? Not even a goddamn donkey?
A mount would have helped a lot with inventory managment with its saddlebag. But now we have to constantly manage our inventory in this game.
Don't get me wrong. It's a hell of a fun game. But these are some of the issue that should not be excused in any way.
Also why are we on consoles forced to play in 2k when it clearly can't keep a steady framerate?
Almost all other games gives you the option to play in 1080p if you want to run on 60fps.

Okay, can we talk about how this is basically every AAA game these days. I remember when AAA used to mean quality, less bugs, a complete experience. But now it's like AAA means you're paying for a big crew and/or big studio working with an IP, shoveling out shit we've already played, the game will run like shit, they will promise to eventually fix the game, but from experience that's not a guarantee

  • @mdoule

Yeah this has overblown thanks to so called "AAA" shenigans and noone really looked at what kind of mtx is there, people just started screaming.
This kind of "convinience" MTX is part of japanese RPG for more than decade. The idea was propbably to offer people ability to skip some grind ingame to save time, since when you are adult, you tend to have more money than time to play and grind. But usualy ingame grind was not ment to dissuade people from playing and it was enjoyable, but still was something that took some time. At least at start it was not greedy, but rather solid give/take relationship - you can buy things to save time and we get more money.
It was later when other developers started to utilize this with greed, punishing ingame grind in favor for MTX, that this become seen as negative thing.
The Art of Methamorphosis thing - Capcom imho completely miscalculated how often prople might want to change look of their characters. There is lot of systems and things in game that shows the age of ideas behind game - single save file included. They could at least learn from souls game and allow multiple characters, each with single file... And the inability to sell directly from storage in cities - yet you can enhance from storage materials...
The optimization is not excusable though. After all that time Capcom should have better knowledge how to optimize for PC. Bluepoint should open developer academy for optimization I think :)

First of all, people are making a big deal over NOTHING with the microtransactions. You wouldn't realize they existed except for triggered people screaming about them (literally in their own menu that you barely see at all). The items you can buy are not even hard to acquire in game as long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play/farm. So it's really a pointless complaint.
Second, the bigger issue to me was the save system (or lack thereof). The autosave feature is way too aggressive and I've had inn saves that bugged, crashed to desktop and then disappeared (no option to load Last Inn Save). This has turned several glitches (things that would have normally required a simple reload to fix) into major bugs that affected gameplay (such as inability to complete quests). It's also a shame because there are decisions that really matter in this game, but you can't have a second playthrough to experience the other outcomes. Luckily, the devs have been responsive and have said they are going to fix this and give us additional saves.
Honestly, most of the complaints about DD2 are either meaningless or have already been addressed by the dev team. In terms of devs, I'll give them a thumbs up for responding quickly and working to release updates that will fix the major issues that people are complaining about. To the people that are whining about microtransactions: get over it. This is the future of gaming. It's not going away. Start to move from whining to encouraging the companies that do it right like Capcom (not in your face, not game changing, only selling items you can get through regular gameplay).

I bought this game and have yet to play it and all I have heard is about the micro transaction issue. It certainly is a Marketing Fool’s idea to make a few extra dollars quickly but really, who needs the micro transactions anyway? I think they are there for the impatient gamer who wants to start a new game and have all the potent potions, armours or weapons RIGHT NOW instead of toiling and searching for them in game. So, micro transactions are not an issue for me. Resolution and clarity of graphics carries more weight, definitely. In 2024, with the chip power at the disposal of developers, clarity and resolution should be non negotiable. Either way, I am attracted to the world and potential of the story and gameplay, so I’ll definitely be playing my copy at some point. We, as gamers, have our rights to opinions, but sometimes a game gets totally killed by a little selfishness on both the part of marketers and gamers as well. Just leave the transactions and give it a try. If you play and hate the world, gameplay, story etc….then you tried something new. It’s the only way to find the next Baldur’s Gate experience isn’t it? Try and try again. I enjoyed your opinion here, Luality. Intelligently composed and expressed. 🐰🌹

the real problem is that the game runs like dog shit. I've had to write a damn batch file to make DD2 the cpu priority. Then turn off any application that could run in the background like discord or even a internet browser. All of this just so I can get a solid 60fps and decent framepacing on mid/high settings on a r5 7600x and rtx 4070ti. It's a single player game, so you don't need to do any form of microtransactions. What you do need to do is be able to actually play the game properly...

A full price single player game shouldn't have mtx. This is completely useless 90% of the time because it is either skins only you (the player) see or just for upgrade faster. Those companies are just greedy. The game is good and deserve some love but they decide to ruin it.
Oh well, I'll wait 1 year until the game is like 30€ and have no performance issues. Pretty much what I do with almost every games recently.

I don't know about the defending the game devs. I doubt the publisher made the devs make 1 save file that can't be deleted or making multiple save files. I think the devs were on board with all this garbage.

  • @cmdrdisulfiram

First of all, yes, it is unfortunate that this game takes all the backlash for that sort of DLC, especially since Capcom has been doing this for a long while now. Most recently RE4 remake had similar DLC and people expressed their dislike but let it slide at that point. However, micro transactions in singleplayer games is extremely important topic that needed to be addressed, sooner rather than latter. It's just a slippery slope and publisher will go down it as much as they are allowed. Before you know it, we'd end up with games completely crippled in favor for pushing DLC purchases to players.
Secondly, you are assuming this game isn't optimized. The fact that it runs pretty poorly on consoles as well as on PC, tells us it's probably just too much for modern day hardware and it will run better on computers and consoles that don't yet exist. Either that, or they didn't have time to optimize even console versions which is usually top priority.

Sure. Its a problem of publishing. However. We cannot accept poorly released games. If we cut them slack they'll keep doing it. I learned from the terrible launch of cyberpunk. Launched in a bad state, don't buy.
My problem with it is mostly the poorly optimized state it seems to be in. But the micro transactions are Also really shit

Nah, biggest problem with the game is that is owned and published by Capcom. I was never a big fan of the original game, but with how poorly Capcom has been behaving in recent years with sliding in DRM into decades old games to trying to prevent people from modding their games with visual overhauls to their liking to even their decades long attempt at selling DLC that should be just free in game; the company lost all credibility long ago. I mentioned I didn't enjoy the first game, but reality is, even if I did, moment I see CAPCOM on the packaging, I outright nope out of there without hesitation.

From what i saw from reading the reviews, mtx is not the core problem. It's that for 70$ you get crashes and poor optimization for a game that looks ok.But not near next-gen. And to top that there's mtx. Of course people will be mad about that. If the release would've gone smooth, a lot less people would bring up the mtx.
P.S. that been said mtx in single player games are cancer.

The game is literally a copy/pasted prettier version of dragons dogma 1. This was just a nostalgia money grab.
No new enemies but firey/stone lizards. The exact same endgame fight from the first game... they probably made DD2 in ~1 year since all they did was upgrade the graphics and make caves.

I really don't care about the micros.. i know a lot of gamers just boycott micros in general, but imo the biggest problem are the people who never played DD at all, they think that the devs or publishers sell them features you should have, like in every other game. but they don't, fast traveling is per design limited, they just added micro portcrystals for lazy players or players who don't have a lot of time but money. And the rest you get in the deluxe edition anyway, but you could say that with the micros you don't need to buy the whole deluxe and just the 1 thing you want... i know a lot of people don't have the same budget as me per example and 70 can be a lot, but i donno guys 70 or 80 for a game you will spend several 100 hours, is that really a lot? I think not... in my country 70€ is an normal restaurant evening with friends and not even a long one (per person, i mean a good food no fast food) micros ok, let them put them in the game who cares ? just don't buy them especially in DD2 you don't need you don't have any advantage evenon the contrary, with the portcrystals you ruin the games design

I personally avoid buying games with MTX that changes game progression speed or pay-to-win or anything like that. Cosmetics are the only exception, because I personally don't really care for cosmetics- and I think that is the most reasonable type of MTX that exists, because it really is just selling art instead of actual core gameplay.
It's about entirely avoiding the trap in the first place. I'm sure there is loads of people who do NOT intend to purchase MTX when they go into the game, but then fall victim to it anyways because the game has thoughtfully calculated how to make it as appealing and convenient as possible for you to succumb to. I'm just going to avoid the title entirely so I can avoid getting hooked and falling for this crap later down the road.
