    It would have been nice to see a tunneled version of the Central Freeway linking US 101 in the Hayes Valley area to the Presidio area, along with a similar tunnel linking the Southern Freeway at 19th Avenue to Park Presideo Drive near the Golden Gate Bridge. If BART can go underground, so can freeways.

      Or a Embarcadero tunnel from I-280 to US-101 near the Golden gate bridge.

      The tunnels that BART uses are far narrower than freeway tunnels

    Fun fact back in the 50s before the freeway revolts, they were planning on building three more bridges to connect SF to Marin and the East Bay, the Tiburon Bridge was only one of those. They wanted to build a bridge from the Sunset/Seacliff to the Marin Headlands and name it the Diablo Bridge. This would have coincided with the plan to build a community on top of the hills in Sausalito called Marincello, but opposition to the housing blocked it from happening. This made building the bridge pointless

    I still have dreams of riding on the Embarcadero Freeway as a kid, but I cannot seem to remember the Central Freeway at all

    Freeways divided neighborhoods, glad some of them are gone or were never built.

      Now that the cost of living is so high, none of that matters, ironically, rich ass residents these days probably would prefer to limit outside access to their neighborhoods lol

      Now we should have BART lines that serve those areas that the freeway intended to serve.

    Ironically one of the San Francisco Freeway Revolt leaders, Sue Bierman, who opposed the Golden Gate Park Panhandle freeway project and who became a San Francisco city supervisor in the 1980s-1990s had died in a car accident in 2006, crashing her car into a dumpster in her neighborhood street. Not known if she had suffered a medical episode that caused her to crash.

      Yet for some reason, they like their cars.

    Golden Gate Park would be very compromised today with two freeways and a big freeway interchange in it.

    I STRONGLY WISH this freeway 🛣 was built and still want an adequate freeway in San Francisco. Maybe one day! 🙄idiots for tiring it down!

      It will have to be one underground freeway connecting I-280 to US-101 to the Golden gate bridge.

      Freeways divide and destroy communities, are expensive, loud, and ruin the neighborhoods which it goes through. Above all, freeways might actually INCREASE congestion, because of induced demand, making the entire thing essentially pointless.

      @@forsomereasonistillcannotfly They should have at least made the 101 central freeway to the golden gate bridge.

    • @forsomereasonistillcannotfly
      @forsomereasonistillcannotfly Рік тому +2

      @@EZFun-Official I disagree with this. In 1992, the Central Freeway was torn down north of Market, and the surrounding area is quite a bit better now. In a place like San Francisco, the car shouldn't be the main form of transportation.

      We should have BART serve those areas that those freeways wanted to serve. If there is still a need for freeways, we should build them underground with little to no exists in order to connect the golden gate with the rest of freeways. But, I still think SF did great on not building massive freeways!
