- Welcome to the Pennsylvania & Berwind, a route 6 years in the making.
----
Mill Creek Tipple, owned by PBS coal is the largest coal tipple along this route. I've been avoiding this build for a while simply because of it's scale, but today we'll finally dive in as I discuss my thought processes when doing a build this size.
To give you a bit more perspective on my techniques, we'll do some live building in the second half of the episode and I'll give you some of my tips and tricks for detailing.
The audio and video does go in and out of sync a bit during the live build. Hopefully it's not too distracting. I'm not sure what the issue is since I have my FPS locked in Bandicam and everything appears correct in Premiere. If anyone knows how I can resolve this issue please let me know. I record my voiceover separately using a Zoom H4N and sync it to the video in Premiere.
Don't forget to let me know if you'll be attending the Amherst Train Show in Springfield Massachusetts!

Wow nice, every time I go to Kentucky, I always see trains at tipples and coal mines, amazing vid man! 🛤🚂
Thanks dude! XD
Approach Medium u r welcome 🛤
Wow, just another totally great Let's Build! Have fun at the Train Convention. Thanks bud. Looking forward to the next few episodes for sure.
Thanks dude! I'll let you know how it goes
Everytime you put a video, I grab popcorn hehe. Thanks for the video mate. Btw, there is shortcuts for all the actions in surveyor, for example to rotate, move objects heigh up and down. The different tabs also has shortcuts for keyboard. You can look they in the final chapter of TANE manual. Once one has the hang of it, it really save a lot of time I tell you. Waiting for your next video, thanks!
lol that's awesome! I'll have to take a look at those shortcuts. It would certainly help streamline my building.
man, going back and watching these old videos... oh how things have changed
I love your videos! This route is so realistic! I wouldn't change a thing in the way you present it either. I love the timelapse building!
Yes! Thanks again :-D
If you ever get the chance or feel like it there’s a town near me called Starke,Florida,it’s a 2 track railroad and is a fairly busy rail line from Miami to Jacksonville and it’s a unique historical little city/town and has a lot of locals and your great at detail so I thought you’d be good at it (starke is a csx route)
Thanks for video, it's so realistic, well done!
:-)
Now THAT is pretty cool for your first coal mine! I never made a coal area in Trainz 2010/2009 edition
:-D
thanks for the support. :)
Now this may be just me but it seems that that parking lot for the warehouse is a bit small for 40' trailers. If most of the commodities are brought in by rail and distributed throughout that town, maybe you should look for some stake bed trucks or enclosed bobtail trucks instead of 18 wheeler style trucks. Just my humble opinion. I mean is, can you imagine an 18 wheeler pulling into that yard and then having to turn around in the yard just so he can back it up into one of the bays? I used to drive 18 wheelers and although I know it can be down it would be a real PITA (Pain In The ...) to do. Again, just my humble opinion. And, one last thing, I love watching your do these builds! You make it look so simple, please keep it up!!! After watching just one of your videos (no this is not the first), I subscribed.
Yup, you're absolutely right. I was thinking the same thing but I couldn't find smaller box trucks to use in that space. For the sake of keeping the episode moving I just stuck with the standard trailers I use everywhere else. I'm planning to go back and change them out once I find a suitable asset. I used to drive some pretty big trucks here in NYC as well so I know exactly what you're talking about when it comes to pulling a big rig into a small lot. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying my videos. I make them for you guys so it's always good to get positive feedback like this! See you in the next one :-D
Swift Transportation is one of the biggest trucking outfits in the US. The trailer you placed in-game (14:02) is for non-foods or it would have a refrigeration unit on the front end.
Great stuff!! I'm just now getting back into Trainz. Great to see someone with as much attention to detail as I do. For a long time I built routes with as much attention to detail as you put into yours. The mailboxes, road signs, junk layin around here and there. The difference in mine was I built mine all with TRS 2006 and with a few tweaks with some of the older content (changing the config build number) I could make routes look just as good as anything else out there without killing my frame rates. Working on getting back into it again. Frank (McCall) aka SPORBUST allowed me to reskin the ES44s that he had and they're uploaded to trainzproroutes. I screwed up on the swoosh logo tho. I think they're a hair to small. Anyhow, just thought I'd create a new UA-cam channel (since I forgot my old password and all that lol) and drop a comment for ya just to let you know that I think you're doing a great job!! I'll be getting a new computer in the next few weeks and gonna whip up a new route. Likely fictional that'll feature all kinds of different famous railroad hot spots. Like "The Trench"/ Alameda Corredor, Horeshoe Curve, Flathead Tunnel, Tehachapi Loop, a large area of quadruple main line in Wyoming's Powder River Basin and all sorts of stuff. It'll be fun lol. Sorry for the lengthy comment. Lol. I'm subscribed and will be watching for your next video
Hey there! Thanks for the feedback. Glad to here there's other people out there who go crazy with their detailing like I do. I didn't know that '06 was capable of higher detailed routes. Maybe it was because the last time I played that version was on my old laptop in college when the game was new. But that's pretty cool that you were able to get that effect in that version. Glad to hear you're enjoying the series! I make these videos for you guys so it's always good to get positive feedback like this. Let me know when you get your channel up and running, I'd love to have a look. Thanks again for the feedback and I'll see you in the next one ;-)
Awesome video!
Thanks, Jake!
GREAT JOB
Thanks! :-D
Its comin along very well, looks great. I think you should get a job for this you are just really good!
Thanks buddy! I don't know who would hire me for this though lol
I like the crossings that you use, what are they called?
Amazing video. What system are you running to get these amazing frame rates?
Core i5, 16gb RAM, GTX 960 GPU. It's nothing crazy really, but the ram and GPU make all the difference. I need a new processor.
what function do you use to rotate the texture while adding it to the route?
Hold down [
thanks, btw love the series. i don't find too many people who make these kinds of vids and i enjoy your channel keep up the great work :)
Thanks! I love getting feedback like this. Plenty more on the way ;-)
Probably a silly question but I sadly don''t own the game (no computer fast enough with the graphics.) Once you have created the route, are you able to get into the trains, drive them, pick up railcars and move them to other places, etc?
Totally! Take a look at the second half of Episode 5
What RR Crossings do you use?
Great video as always. If I may make an observation as a mining engineer...mines are very clean, especially at the surface facilities. Coal mines are even more so. I've seen MSHA give environmental and safety violations for things as simple as bottle caps. If you want to know anything about mining facilities, I may be able to help. I've worked in a couple of mines and visited many more.
Oh yeah that'd be great! I haven't started on the next episode yet so any info you have I might be able to use for episode 7. Hit up my email, ApproachMediumYT@gmail.com feel free to share pictures or whatever. All info is welcome. And if I don't answer right away it just because I'm super busy between working full time, plus freelance plus this channel
good job
Thanks bud!
I was watching you work on mill creek tipple and you said that you sometimes jump around because you see something somewhere else that needs to be fixed or added that's because when you jump around it gives you a fresh look at other place's on your route so don't fight it use it.
I dig your thinking! I'll have to embrace it more going forward
22:28 You said you didn't want to get signs at perfect 360 or 90 degrees.
Its a shame i couldnt go to the train show, it was too far away and im in North Carolina, it would be nice to meet you, i like meeting new people, get to know them
Well there are plenty more train shows ahead!
Question: What's the difference between TMR2017 and Trainz 12? What's the purpose of the release of TMR2017? Thanks!
TMR isn't worth the money. If you have TANE SP2 you can purchase any of the routes and built in content. TMR and TANE have the same graphics engine which is a bit superior to TS12
Approach Medium Thanks! I'll stick to T:ANE.
I just binge watched all your videos on this route I was wondering if you did do tutorials if you could do a tutorial on railroad grades
:-D Awesome! I've had a few people asking me for a similar tutorial. Once I figure out how to put a tutorial like that together I'll certainly do it. Are you referring to ATLS crossings in particular?
Approach Medium Yes and also like gradients on tracks.
How did you create the custom pick lists?
Check out episode 4 or 5, I talk about it in the beginning.
just found you and I wish I had found you earlier you make great videos. will you be releasing this route on the dls?
+Jebediah26 Welcome to the channel! The route will be released in stages as they're completed in the coming months. 😎
thanks for the quick reply :)
;-)
Can I just drive in this game or do I have to build my world?
You can drive in maps you download.
I love the video
Thanks buddy!
your welcome man
Why not use the keyboard shortcuts to rotate and move, R, M etc
I just haven't taken the time to learn them yet. I'm so used to the keyboard shortcuts for a bunch of Adobe programs idk if I can cram anymore of that into my head lol.
I like it btw I subbed
:-D
Is that freight depot on DLS
It should be
Approach Medium thanks
OMG SUBBED SOO AWESOME :DDDDD
I'm a Berwind what is this?
WHEN EP 7 PLS
Hey AP. I made a new account. My old one is Mike Pericolosi. Cannot wait for what is to come next on your channel
Sweet! Thanks dude
Just remember I have a new account!
I'll do my best! Channel is growing but I know you've been around since the beginning.
+Approach Medium and I always will!
+Approach Medium and I have a route I am going to make a video on in the future. Since my skills are around a 37%, I have a friend do texturing while I do track work, road work, and other mapping.
I want this game so much but it kinda expensive
Approach, if a train car hits the barrier, if the car is going less than 5 mph, then it will stop it. Otherwise, no.
Great Video Man im working on my Own Mine on my Railroad in Trainz im posting a Video Soon
Awesome, Thanks!
I can never. Build like that to bad there's no routes for download like that
Just need to practice! I've been at it for a while so some of it comes easy for me. I'll have some stuff headed to the download station in the next few months, so make sure you stick around ;-D
Although it's New Jersey
I have a train show the same day
Sweet! It's going to be a great day I can tell already :-D
