It's been a common theme for years that the main events happen outside of the holiday times and I'm kinda all for it. A lot of people don't like to miss out and so making smaller events will mean people can appreciate more important things at this time, still have something to do in between though

Sandygast and summer Pichu are definitely for the summer in the southern hemisphere thing, but doesn't make it any less weird. I have to say, December 24 has been one of the weakest months in Pokemon Go history. Nothing has been wowing me. The first time I was excited was seeing Rookidee and Corvinknight on the new loading screen, but those will probably come out in January at this rate.

I think this holiday event is fairly weak but half hatch distance and double catch exp is always nice. I personally don’t mind weaker events because I’m a casual-hardcore player who is serious about the game but I don’t particularly go out and play everyday so it’s nice not having FOMO for the weaker events. Just my 2 cents; I can understand why others may think it sucks
Is there going to be an event where we can evolve for legacy moves at the end of the year? I started playing this summer and I've heard rumors about this event but no announcements yet
I don't think Niantic can make strong events anymore. The collection aspect of Pokémon Go has not been the life blood of this game for many moons now, and they keep locking old content behind paywalls. I was hoping that Gmax would be the new staple, but all its done is create a wedge amongst the community aside from it being an attractive feature. What I suggest is that they start fine-tuning existing features that have all become a chore and a snore. Over 6yrs later and the friend/trade feature has completely fallen flat. Just to name one.
