What's so ridiculous about this deletion is there's an option to identify your video uploads as being about firearms. If it were simply about appeasing big-money advertisers opposed to gun content it should be possible for them to specify any content they don't want their ads to appear. Pro-gun companies should be able to purchase ads specifically for that content if they choose.

Honestly I think the root of the problem is youtube is completely incompetent at content moderation and it goes way beyond "the platform is too big to effectively moderate by hand". I mean you've got copy right issues with music, you've got their weird stances on swearing, all the platform issues with their youtube kids system and education videos, pretty much every genre of youtuber i follow has run into issues with youtubes moderation or lack there of

It was never publicly announced but 18 months ago, YT hired the foremost authority on firearms of all types. Professor George Santos presented impeccable credentials and was hired immediately. His records show that he was the firearms curator at London's Royal Armory for 17 years, Head of Engineering at H&K for 13 years, Production Manager at Glock for 22 years, Head of the Engineering Dept. at MIT for 18 years, as well as Professor Emeritus at several prestigious colleges around the world. Prof. Santos is now applying his vast knowledge and experience to insure YT viewers aren't subjected to any content that might violate community standards. So things should be sorted out very soon.

Mr McCollum the videos you make and put so much effort into are the reasons that I support your channel. You aren’t following the main stream route that some are taking with the shorts and whatnot. I love the takedown and reviews of the old forgotten weapons that a lot of the gun world doesn’t know about or care about but that me and all your other nerdy subscribers find more interesting then any modern guns. I’m not saying anything against modern guns as I love them but I love the old guns of the early 20th century much more.

the worst part of how yt moderates is the retroactive punishing. content from 3 years ago that wasnt in violation is what they issue strikes for because it is now an issue. Also the wild inconsistency at which this happens is a huge issue

Yeah, and I think also that they treat new rules the same as long-standing ones. Not sure exactly how to explain this, but... Let's say it's always been against the rules to wear a green shirt, but they didn't enforce the rule very actively and you got away with it for a long time. In that case, it might make sense to go "oh, he's got a year-long backlog of green shirt videos, that's three strikes, ban the channel." On the other hand, if they just made that rule, it *might* make sense to go back through and apply the rule retroactively* but you would want to do some kind of "grace period" where your old videos get demonetized/delisted/whatever but anything posted prior to the change doesn't count as a strike, or only counts for one strike however many videos there were.
*You know, imagine something you care about that should have been banned long ago. Say, dogfighting, or kids getting hurt in accidents, or whatever it is that boils your blood. If they were late off the mark banning something like that, you wouldn't want them to go "well, no NEW animal cruelty videos, but the old ones are grandfathered and stay up forever."

I'm a life member of the NRA. I am not quitting, but I don't send them anything any more. WL's ridiculous bombastic style and apparent personal imperious behavior has sent me directly to the CRPA (unfortunate acronym) for my advocacy. Also, let's face it, a lot of members are conservative Democrats, and the NRA's full throated and continuous support of Trump was grating. I think the current lack of fervor by the membership is also based on a perception of the political impotence on the part of Joe Biden. He is not as scary as Hillary.

I can assure you two that any time a rule like that is kept vague by such a massive corporation. It's for the purposes of arbitrary enforcement. "We keep it vague so it could apply to anyone if we want it to." Like "assault weapon" having no real definition so it means whatever they need it to mean.

Someone should take a muffler off a car and put it on a gun. Also take off a large silencer off and put it on a small car. Someone with proper permitting of course. I think that could help point out what a suppressor is. Just a muffler for a gun. They don’t make guns silent.

I think the problem is exactly that - UA-cam being too careless and cheap to hire competent staff for content review, and lacking means of communication between content creators and their "partners" at UA-cam.
And every once in a while someone goes absolutely haywire and demonetizes and strikes absolutely everything. (If it's out of incompetence or got a political motivation behind it doesn't really matter.)
As long as there're not enough people to make enough noise about it, it passes by completely unnoticed by higher-ups at UA-cam who have an actual say in things.
Just as Ian said, content creators are too detached from people within the UA-cam hierarchy who (supposedly) have actual responsibilities and should be able to be held accountable. There's a big gap with no way of communication to bridge that gap.
Sad thing is, that's the default design for such big companies. It's built like that on purpose, and most likely not going to change.
