Learning the Capacity meter is ascension tier 1. Ascension tier 2 is learning to put tank units in front. Edit: He was accidentally using it correctly for a little while there, oh well
First, yay on improvement with capacity. Second, that champ should be in front regardless. It has a ton of life and damages enemies by being healed (or has spikes). The heal build with a lot of life and your back line tactic means you're throwing heals at a unit that may not even be damaged. You want him to take damage so the heals are not just triggering his ability, but are also actually doing what they say on the tin.
Yea, NL has to stop putting his champ on a pedestal, it's just another unit, and units are only good when player to their strengths. You don't see me putting my Animus of Will infront of my Awoken Hollow. Exhibit A) 30:58, literally could have done 145 extra damage to the boss if tank unit was actually tanking. Thankfully in this instance it didn't matter because frostbite is absoulutely insane on bosses.
The mental gymnastics one has to do to decide that a unit with 0 attack and has text that encourages it to be damaged should be in the back, like come on dude. The character model is literally just two huge shields. Or even the fact that you can watch the unit do literally nothing 20 rounds in a row. I don't think the game can do anything to make this more obvious.
It is incredibly wholesome to see NL arguing with himself:´´Should I make the good choice? Nah I couldn´t, I schould not. But then again, ah I apologize I´m going to make the correct choice, sorry``
Yeah... He just turns the heals into damage, but with it in the front you would actually negate incoming damage as well. Not to mention the boss would have to kill it before it can kill the damage dealer, since your not drawing your not gonna trigger heals besides the regen going. I downloaded the trial version after watching him play this game though, if the game isn't too expensive I'm gonna pick it up I'm thinking ^^
Every time he puts it in back it hurts my soul. I've watched him boss fight so many times where it's the only unit still alive on the floor for 8 rounds and deals no damage.
Champion: 50 health Egg: Keep it in the back Oh, NL! For as many good ideas as you sometime have, you also do things like this :D Bless your shiny beautiful dome!
Eh I get it, he's prioritizing his useful units in the back. It might be more optimal to put them up front. But i would rather have it behind and have the train stewarts tank the blows for me rather than risk the 30 damage from healing the champion going away
I was prepared to see some improvements in his play .. First play champion that is made to tank an get healed played in the back ... You will get there eventually NL :D
Lol I know, he enjoys healing for 0 far too much. He also lost me on his logic of how quick and more attack was good for his tank unit (especially when more armor and hp was an option)
Stop putting your champion in the back! He benefits from healing, so the whole point is you're supposed to heal him after he takes damage. Plus, he's totally useless when the front unit dies as he does no damage. Let him soak it up so the damage dealers can get a few extra hits in!
Here's the thing: Being below max HP literally doesn't matter. You can heal as much as you want, and it'll still trigger. Rejuvenate's broken in the best of ways.
The Boonsman ok but it does matter because you can heal the damage, and you won’t be taking damage on your other units. It basically makes your healing spells twice as effective, as your other units won’t be dying and you only have one target to heal
@@TheEeveeKing yeah but you're gaining more value from healing a damaged champion than a full health champion . If you put train steward behind the champion. He's never going to die because the champion will take damage and then you will heal the champion. If you put the train steward in front, train steward dies in 1 turn.
I figured this out the other day in the demo: When you're on the screen where it tells you who the final boss is, you can hover over the little icon next to its portrait to see exactly what debuffs it'll give you. Makes it a lot easier to plan when you have exact numbers imo.
Hey NL, super pogged about the game here's a few things i picked up from watching you (and playing a lot of the demo) 1. Incant units effectively have synergy with each other, unlike rejuvenate as by placing many incant units on the same floor you can get more buffs out of each spell 2. I'm sure you get this a lot from other commenters but positioning matters, especially for bossfights, a 0 atk unit in the backline will always add 0 damage against a boss, while in the front it could buy valuable time for your other units 3. AOE damage is great but once you can deal enough to consistently wipe out support units, dealing more won't always have much of an impact, especially in bossfights which seem to be your weakest point 4. MONSTER TRAIN IS LIKE POG RAIN FALLING FROM THE SKY
It makes sense to mention it though, Egg isn't gonna think about it otherwise. Like, if he was playing The Binding of Isaac but just assumed Devil Rooms must be traps so he refuses to go into them, why wouldn't you mention that they're worth entering? If he found a way to win with the tank in the back, sure let him do whatever, but he's losing specifically because of it and the second he puts the tank in the front is the second his winrate triples without any extra work or thought required. Optimal play isn't required, but not utilizing the Champion at all is simply a misunderstanding that will always keep him from winning, and he's not considering if it's a mistake even after multiple full runs of watching his DPS die and then the tank just be slaughtered by the boss for free over and over.
@@HighLanderPonyYT NL literally mentions the dps/tank combo in ep 1, but to this day he's making these idiot plays where his dps dies early and the tank at the back just starts a staring contest. Thank you for telling everyone you know about capacity. Sorry about all the pain from the comments about it. Really enjoying this series; hope we continue to see more!
The game comes out today and I'm watching this video to tide me over until it becomes available. Your videos have sold me on it, and I'm going to love playing it while watching you as well. Thanks for covering it so much! I hope it becomes as big as Slay the Spire :D
The POGGEST moment of the day has come, raining down from the skies, like tears of joy dropping from the eyes of the godess of entertainment, whenever a new upload of eggdad occurs. (Thx for the awesome content again, NL. You are killing it!)
Yoo Ryan, thanks for the series so much, it's real nice to get a look at the full version, I'm really pogging up to play myself! Really hope the backseating doesn't salt the game for you too much.
It's unbelievable how much better you're playing today than in your last batch. The only piece of advice I have to offer is that I still think you're underestimating how valuable getting that 6th capacity is so you can put 3 good units to a floor. Even with this deck that was extremely mana hungry, I still would have gone +cap instead of +ember so you could get your incanters going. Alternatively, you could have played the stygian champion instead since he is size 1, meaning you can get 3 to a floor without having to upgrade capacity.
For anyone wondering. The way you calculate the triangular number (the sum of the numbers previous to a specific number, I.e. frostbite in this, poison in StS.) is to use the formula n(n+1)/2 or n^2+ n/2. So 20 stacks of frostbite = (20x21)/2 which equals 110.
I had not been watching much UA-cam content recently, but I decided to start watching this series after you streamed it. Very enjoyable to watch. Keep up the great work.
Honestly, I wasn't feeling this series at first because I couldn't understand the game well in one of the earlier episodes I watched, but I'm glad I gave this one another chance, as your narration helped it click for me and this was fun to watch. I hope there's more!
I am going insane watching NL put his 50 HP tank in the back line while his ramping dps siren with 10 hp is in the front And yet this is still my favorite ongoing series from NL. Keep up the good work
just imagine if you could heal your tank, dealing damage in the process and in doing so had a damaging unit behind him building up to be a tank by the healing instead of just throwing away heals on an undamaged unit while barely building up armor because your unit constantly gets hit
Really loving the series! I kinda don't want to backseat and worry about who I'll come across since English isn't my first language but...I do have a tip. Your strategy with rejuvenation + damage is good, you do however get more value from healing cards playing them on damaged units and a unit that hasn't got an attack can give opportunities to other units so they can sneak in an extra attack. Can't wait to buy the game, really looks like a fun time! Great to see you having fun too. Cheers!
So we have a unit, that gives us a massive benefit from using heals on it, and we want to use heals on it. So we can put this unit in the front to soak damage so that we get both actual heal value and rejuvenate value right? Nah, behind the train steward you go. I tease because I love, enjoying the content very much.
Played the demo alone for 11h, instantly bought the game on release, and immensely enjoy it. So thank you for bringing this game to my attention. But honestly, watching you play sometimes hurts...PHYSICALLY!
This series is the poggest of the pog. NL, this is one of those games that you absolutely are selling copies of. I'm in no position to go buying games whenever I feel like, but this one is definitely a huge consideration from me, and if I had just a bit more money, it wouldn't even be a question.
I am EXTREMELY excited for this game and it's largely due to the top tier videos you've made covering it thus far. Please don't get too discouraged by backseat comments explaining misplays. Your card game content is probably my favorite.
Keep them coming, pogged up for this series for sure. My two cents is that I would greatly appreciate if you could read out cards that you haven't seen before in their entirety. If you think it would hurt the episode/series/show don't worry about it of course and I'll just deal. I often have the show on my second monitor or on the tablet while doing chores around the house and can't read them for myself, leading to a situation where I don't know what a lot of the cards even do without rewinding repeatedly.
Love the content! Similar to other comments, keeping your high health champion in the front is ideal not only due to its low ATK but also it getting damaged allows you to get even more benefit from the heals
Just wanna say this series has been fantastic, love watching you play deckbuilders and probably gonna buy this game tomorrow because of the series. Edit: great plays today too! Love the discard engines
So everyone is talking about the champion positioning, and that's cool, but one minor thing I think it's worth thinking about when your deck revolves a 0 attack unit is opportunities where enabling that unit to attack yields more damage than your weak nukes. For example at 13:23 ~ you opt to use Frozen Lance for 6 damage instead of buffing your backliner for 3 - over the boss round you lost something like 54 damage because every round your champion would be attacking. Another example of this would be using steel enhancer on your champion on the first turn which would then allow it to attack every round of the train fight (and potentially kill an additional unit every round). I don't think this tip would have been too relevant this run since you got axed pretty hard by the boss at the end but it's something to keep in mind imo.
Hey NL, just a quick mathematical tip. When you have two units that are equal and can buff one of them, it will almost always be better to buff the back unit. Because enemies attack first, they will (without sweep/spikes) kill the front unit first, which will often give you one extra attack with the better unit.
Awoken's champion with spikes is effectively game won automatically. You get, if i'm not mistaken, up to 40 spikes by the final boss. Then there are also a unit and an artefact that increase spike damage per stack... My Awoken champion by herself managed to take ~800hp off of a final boss in one of my winning runs. 3:15 I see NL still struggles with the concept of a "tank" unit. No worries, we're not in a rush, you can figure it out at your own pace, you're doing ever so great! 4:18 "What do we like here?" Well, NOT killing the loot goblin, apparently... 25:00 Nl's logic: 50hp and deal damage when healed - NOT a tank, 10hp - IS a tank. 26:45 I know i keep repeating myself, but god damn. He puts a tank with NO ATTACK in the back, a tank who deals damage when healed, puts a fragile unit WITH an attack in the front, and then keeps wasting heals on a unit with full health (instead of letting it be actually damaged first) so it would attack... I literally can't even. NL, what are you doing... 34:45 "We don't have any Aoe, at all", while holding an AoE spell in his hand and casting it 10s later... 38:55 Class, pay attention. This is why you always, ALWAYS take spikes on Awoken champion. Always.
That time you were using spells on the tank instead of the unit that attacks the enemy with regeneration killed me a bit inside. I can see how much you have improved, however, and the way you explain every move is something that made me watch your videos for years. I can't wait for the Monster Train Golden Goblet episode, in the future :p
Remember recommending this game to NL while i was playing the beta. Glad to see you're having a good time playing and learning the game. I'm sooooo ready to get my hands on the full game tomorrow. Keep on, keepin' on :)
NL, my dude. I love the content and I'm so proud of you for learning about the meter, but you gotta stop putting the 0 attack boys in the back. Let them soak up some extra hits so your punchy boys can get some extra damage on the boss in. Plus your champ had heal synergy, so let him take damage so when you hit him with a restore, he gains some lost hp back. Keep up the great content, I'll definitely be picking up this game when it comes out thanks to you.
I really hope the Melvins can shut their dang pieholes and not frustrate NL into cancelling this series because it is golden POGS and is fast becoming the video I look forward to the most every day.
Great stuff! One tip is to buff your back unit before the boss as that unit is more likely to survive longer There was a lot of times where your hero just tanked hits without doing anything, while casting an enhance on it would have dealt a lot of dmg.

Remember y'all the game comes out Tomorrow if you're having a good time and remember to like the button for more traffic. Egg Father deserves 1 million subs already!
Just want to say NL, I am 100% buying this game because of your POGGED series, I probably wouldn't have heard of this game for a long time otherwise. Keep series like this coming!
i hope this series continues without all the same comment stuff that was happening, keep it up im loving the series
This series is absolutely fantastic, I'm watching the clock every day waiting for a new episode!
I love this series! Possibly shaping up to be my favorite of the year
I have not been this excited for a series since slay the spire
Not only do I love that this is a series, but its a definite pickup for me when it comes out. Great job as always finding these gems!
It really astonishes me how NL is capable of making these absurdly obvious mistakes almost every single chance he gets.
Thank you for telling everyone you know about capacity. Sorry about all the pain from the comments about it. Really enjoying this series; hope we continue to see more!
This series is scratching an itch I didn’t know I had. Thanks for doin your thing, NL
Good to see some actual strategizing, doesn't always work out, but the progress is visible. Great series so far. Have a nice day, everybody.
I wish he would use steel enchancer on his 0 damage tank at least more than once, so much damage lost XD
Loving this series btw!
Nl unit position triggers me to no end, yet i cannot stop watching and suporting this series.
So 20 stacks of frostbite = (20x21)/2 which equals 110.
capacity pogs but still puts tanks at back ;^( love this series so much atm
I had not been watching much UA-cam content recently, but I decided to start watching this series after you streamed it. Very enjoyable to watch. Keep up the great work.
Honestly, I wasn't feeling this series at first because I couldn't understand the game well in one of the earlier episodes I watched, but I'm glad I gave this one another chance, as your narration helped it click for me and this was fun to watch. I hope there's more!
I am going insane watching NL put his 50 HP tank in the back line while his ramping dps siren with 10 hp is in the front
And yet this is still my favorite ongoing series from NL. Keep up the good work
just imagine if you could heal your tank, dealing damage in the process
and in doing so had a damaging unit behind him building up to be a tank by the healing
instead of just throwing away heals on an undamaged unit while barely building up armor because your unit constantly gets hit
Thanks for the company, hope this game goes far!
I'm so excited for tomorrow. I'm picking this up and throwing all my free time at it.
Thanks NL!
Me too bro
Each day i wait for this to come out. Really enjoying the series.
Wow I'm really liking this series NL. A good game and high quality engagement man.
"Let's play Awoken/Stygian"
"So we put the champion in the back"
Argh.
Always.
Pogged up to watch the video. Love the series, thank you for bringing out amazing entertainment!
This game is extremely fun to watch. Loving this series Egg Dad.
Your 50 HP Champion is healed for 10-40 per turn. He should be your frontline tank.
My god, it hurts...but i just can't keep myself from watching ! Hahahah Great series NL, doing great sweetheart, keep it up!
My favorite series, I love 7pm now. THANK YOU NL! Sincerly :)
Episode Five! LETS GOOOO!! This series is so great.
I really hope the Melvins can shut their dang pieholes and not frustrate NL into cancelling this series because it is golden POGS and is fast becoming the video I look forward to the most every day.
I'm loving the music in this game.
Again with this mythical mouse that should be here in a few days for weeks.
On twitter he confirmed it's here. How far that backlog is tho idk
This series has been amazing so far NL, keep it coming!
Great stuff! One tip is to buff your back unit before the boss as that unit is more likely to survive longer There was a lot of times where your hero just tanked hits without doing anything, while casting an enhance on it would have dealt a lot of dmg.
Loving the Monster Train vids, NL. Keep them coming!
Hi Northenlion !
Love the series so far, looking forward to see that stream win of yours. Thank you so much for listening to your fans when we can be ennoying, for the energy and the positive attitude !
Cheers to you and your family !
LET'S GO BOYS !
I'm fascinated by his choice to want to protect the awoken champion when it literally has zero attack and is designed around taking damage.
This is my new fav northern lion series keep it going NL!
Just wait until he figures out that this champ is a tank.
Every single video so far... why is he like this? NL giving me fever
You'd think the 2 giant shields grafted to its arms would be a dead giveaway
@@Trademark989 and the 50 hp + 0 atk too
Been looking forward to when that happens, lol
@@SuperLapplander he does it so people get mad and comment more on his videos. its honestly a dick move
monster train content is my light in the dark tunnel of this pandemic, thank you parasocial father
This was a really good game, NL! It's awesome seeing you get better each time :) that victory is coming even closer! Looking forward to the next one.
Just a little tip if your gonna buff a unit and there’s 2 units buff the one in the back for more damage while the one in the front soaks up damage allowing for more damage
Those late trials are super tough! Great spell focus run.
Aside from Griftlands this is definitely my favourite new game series on NL's channel. Keep it up my dude.
Champion : has 2 enormous enchanted stone shields and 0 atk
NL : we need him in the back
NL: Frostbite 20 isn't as much damage as it sounds like.
Frostbite 20: *is actually 210 damage*
NL: well, maybe it's better than 12 damage up front.
Never change, my egg brother.
Hey! Great series. Thanks to you I'll be buying this game today. Don't ever hesitate to work with devs, take sponsored videos etc. I know sometimes people don't like those types of relationships, but you need to make money doing what you do. Plus, I end up seeing more interesting games from motivated devs. Most people with their heads on straight really don't care about sponsored content, games you were gifted, or games you agree to stream for a dev to build a relationship.
I just wanted to say NL, I'm in love with the series and to keep it up! Can't wait to get my hands on the game tomorrow!
The day his champion is put frontline is the day he claps all. Great video as always though!
