    Reminds me of years back when they were going to build the Arizona Cardinals stadium off the end of the Sky Harbor International airport. Someone on the stadium build committee basically asked his buddy that worked at Sky Harbor if he thought it would be ok to build the stadium at point X.

      The plans called for a smaller turbine but they did a last minute switcheroo to a larger turbine. Hopefully that switch was approved. We shall see 😀

    Fantastic investigation perry. Hopefully your advocacy is heard.

    I fly out of Oyen, the only pilot and plane stationed there in fact. If you fly in again let me know! Many issues with this airport and the town is utterly unconcerned.

      I will be back soon. I'm not sure if it will be with the plane or just driving. Send me an email at planeswithperrychannel@gmail.com and I can reach out to you when I'm back next.

    Thanks for taking the time to explain and dong such a great job.
    One of the most important things a small community can have is the ability to get their people to hospital quickly and safely. Oyen have just stopped that and made it unsafe to get people to hospital. How stupid can a mayor or council be! But the Mayor and council can tell the community that they have cheap or free electricity when they are dying and in need of urgent medical care!
    It is such a simple fix. remove the turbines that effect the approach paths!

      Yes, but I feel the drive for a dollar and the part about these turbines already installed might mean the area is now forced to work around it. It's definitely a good situation to view as a case study to try and prevent it from happening anywhere else. Turbines are starting to litter the prairie provinces in Canada so I'm sure there will be plenty more encroachment issues elsewhere.

    Have you been in the turbulence produced by those blades?
    I got in turbulence downwind one late summer day. Never been near them before that flight.

    • @planeswithperry
      @planeswithperry  Рік тому +1

      I have been in turbulence from other turbines in Southern Alberta. There's definitely a rotor type effect in the airflow around them

    Are you aware of the proposed solar farm surrounding the Hanna Airport? It is in the same area and is getting pushed along by the developer

    • @planeswithperry
      @planeswithperry  9 місяців тому

      No, but it doesn't surprise me. I believe the Alberta Energy Utlities Commission is in the back pocket of the solar and wind companies. They have a boilerplate approval process that they basically copy/paste from project to project and rubber stamp it all. It's disgusting and the general public is blind to it since it's all about feel good "green" energy

    You posted an "update" with two month old information? How about something more recent? Maybe that third turbine has lights now.

      @planeswithperry  Рік тому

      Sorry Bruce, I work on these videos as I have spare time. I wish I could do this full-time but I make 0 dollars from this so I have to pay the bills somehow. My video doesn't change the fact that the turbines affect the approach regardless of being lit or unlit. Putting lights on that final turbine still doesn't fix the rest of it since there still isn't a GPS approach, and there still isn't any approach lighting to the airport. I'll do another trip to Oyen soon.

      @@planeswithperry And when an airplane loses power taking off, my bet is that this is going to cost a life or three. Hope it's not one of your children, I've lost too many of my family members to stupid shit like that.

    I am an avid wind advocate, not a pilot and as such those windmills should be taken down at the expense of the people that put them up. They give a bad name to wind power as does the fact that the top of the windmill is its blades and those should also be lit. Jail time for attempted murder wouldn't be out of line either.

    • @planeswithperry
      @planeswithperry  Рік тому

      It gives a very bad name to wind turbines. When you fly throughout Southern Alberta they are LITTERING the landscape and it is only a matter of time before they encroach on other important areas elsewhere. I want what happened to Oyen to be the line in the sand, and set a precedent that prevents it from happening to other places.

    A couple things - They *are* getting a AWOS as well as GPS approach. That's confirmed. The other little thing I'm wondering about is whether or not the Government of Canada actually cares about pilot safety over virtue signalling renewable resources in an area that doesn't vote liberal. Sorry for being cynical but I do have to wonder about that. Transport Canada employees know these things are dangerous - but they're powerless. So when you're sending emails out please include the transport minister as well as the shadow transport minister in opposition. If all else fails maybe we can get a couple windmills put up at the approach ends of Tofino's airport so Justin's aircraft can be bothered a little. Oh, and regarding how long those have been there... those ones at the end of the runway were not there in June of last year. I know that because I landed runway 14 and I darn sure would've noticed it. What was in play however was more of them off runway 22 but because that's a sand/gravel runway nobody made any noise.

    • @planeswithperry
      @planeswithperry  Рік тому

      There's a large cluster to the west now that definitely affects that gravel runway. You're right about the virtue signaling of these wind turbines. I also feel there's a "small town politics" way of doing things where you host very discreet, poorly advertised events where anybody opposed to developments can voice their concern. If you advertise it badly enough, then nobody will show (including opposition) and it assists in pushing through nonsense like what has happened around Oyen. I have some people consistently giving me "thumbs down" on my videos now, and I imagine it's one of my recent subscribers who is part of town council haha 😄
