  • This fun zippered pouch has been popping up everywhere! You’ve probably seen it; the zipper cross over going from the bottom to the top making it a fun cube when closed. Unzipped, it lays flat and wide open so you can easily access your make-up, tools, and more. Choose a cute fabric to hold little toys for your favorite little one!
I’ve seen it called a Magic Pouch, a Cube Pouch, and more. Whatever you call it, my Open Wide Templates will help you make them faster, easier & better!
My friend, Darla Bucalo, made the 2 aqua samples shown from patterns that she drafted. Those patterns turned into templates with several key features:
    • The No Slip Backing ensures that all layers and pieces you cut will be accurate and consistent,
    • The Template Cut Marks help make the Boxy Bottoms easy and consistent.
    • Drilled Hole gives you a suggested placement for your handle.
    • The Halfway Mark provides a guide if you want to make either size a bit larger or smaller.
You’ll find the Open Wide Templates in 2 sizes - Sm & Lg. I’ve also added an optional template called the Add-On for each size. The Add On Template has ½” markings on 2 sides to create the Inserts/Gussets, Bottom Zippered Pocket and Side Pocket.
In this video, I’ll show cutting with the template and Darla will do all of the sewing! You’ll get to see the zipped pocket that she added on the bottom of the larger sample and the additional side pocket but instructions for these 2 will be shown in a later video.
You can find these templates here: Open Wide Pouch Template - Sm & Lg, Add On Templates - Winner Designs (winner-designs.myshopify.com)

I had a lot of trouble where the zipper head is located. I could not get it to lay flat. I ended up sewing over that part again after i closed the zipper about 1/2" and did a pivot to keep the same seam allowance. In the video Darla's lays flat. What am I doing wrong?

Good question. I'm not sure as I'd really have to see what you're doing to give a good answer. But it may be that your 2 sides of the zipper weren't lined up evenly, causing them to not lay flat. That could have been from a slight difference in the seam allowance on where you attached one side versus the other.

@@Lindavideos that’s ok. Don’t hurry. I just wanted to let you know in case you had forgotten. I still do want a few “templates.”
I had the first cataract surgery 4/24 and nbr 2 is scheduled for 5/22. Not sure when final surgery is to be done so I’m not sewing as much right now. Instead I’m reorganizing the room I should be sewing in now (instead of my dining room). When it’s warmer I will be working in the garage organizing the “material overflow” by color and type and refolding it so when there’s room in my sewing room it can go there.
I’m also checking out places to give the material to around where I live for when the time comes that I can’t use it and it would be able to be used by/and or for the people who can’t afford to buy it for themselves or a group that sews for the “poor.”
