I use this mac and cheese. I modify mine a bit. I use 2 boxes. I add sour cream, butter, heavy cream and a little more spice and my own cheese blend- ( could be anything you wanted) with this ( I still use their powder) and then add it to a small casserole dish and add pork rind powder with butter to the top and a little more cheese. You can add broccoli , peas, tuna....really whatever and you have a nice and fast keto-friendly family dinner : )

@@carolynjorgensen1644I use this brand. I just use 2-3 boxes. Do everything the same except I also add sour cream and my own cheese blend. You can pick any cheese your family likes. Then I have added shredded rotisserie chicken and cooked broccoli or baby green peas and tuna ( couple of examples, but you could use anything. Then you pan skillet pork rind panko in butter. Put the mac in a casserole dish, add the panko and then some Parmesan cheese ( makes a nice crust) .
I bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes ( depends on oven). Its a great meal for the family and keto friendly ! : )

Thanks for the Mac & Cheese preview. I'm thinking I might add a tbsp. of nutritional yeast to bump up the cheese flavor. Should only add about a gram to net carbs. Thanks for the sale alert.

You could just add more cheddar cheese to it. I like sharp cheddar it gives things a nice "bite". 😋

I was never a fan of boxed Mac & Cheese. I made my own back in the SAD days. That said, I'll watch you review anything! 🙃
To prevent boil-overs, get the KOCHBLUME Spill Stopper (from QVC). It is a silicone pot cover with a vent (usually a flower design, hence the company name KOCHBLUME) that catches the boil-over, allows it to cool, and drain back into the pot. You will NEVER have another problem with boil-overs again.

Try putting some fat on the top of the pasta water - butter/olive oil/etc. It works pretty consistently for me to keep the froth down. Works for rice too.
It looks delicious!! 😋😋😋 A tip: I used to always put a little oil in with the pasta to keep it from boiling over (and from clumping). I would think it should work with this, too. 🤔

Sounds pretty good. When I used make Mac n cheese I put little dabs of butter and cheddar on top & bake it a short time. That may bump up the cheese flavor. Undercooking the pasta slightly may be necessary tho like reg pasta when you baking it. I can see other possibilities like adding parmesano reggiano or a shredded gruyere as well. Gonna order some when I have $. Thanks for sharing!🙏👏

I preordered some today. I made my own version of lupin mac and cheese and it was pretty good. I used pork panko crumbs and baked it in the oven with keto cheese sauce I made. I love mac and cheese and the Kraft box kind was so special to me before my Keto lifestyle. I also used my glucose CMG to test and did not get an insulin spike. I am type 2 diabetic so I know this will be any easy welcome staple in my house. Want more cheesy just add a little more cheese and butter or whipping cream. That is what I used to do with Kraft as well.
Im only on day 5 of starting low carb and I am craving the famous Kraft Mac n cheese. This might be a game changer for me. Thanks for the video and review!
Steve, thanks for the review. I wonder why manufacturers package their products in odd servings size (i.e. 2.5 servings). Who is going to be happy getting that half serving? Unless you have a 3 yo grandson.😃

I don't really miss packaged mac and cheese but my 17 year old granddaughter who lives with me and keeps telling me that she is going to start doing keto with me would definitely be interested.

Thanks for this Steve. I actually tried to make some lupin spaetzle with cheese sauce and it was pretty good, so I can see how this might also be tasty. I felt like the spaetzle was ok without the “chew”, but I agree it would never pass as real pasta for me. Price for this isn’t too bad if you compare it to some of the more “high end” boxes Mac and cheese, and it’s actually less if you compare it to some of the dehydrated backpacking Mac and cheese meals. I wonder if you could cold soak the lupin noodles to cut down the cook time while on trail. Pair with some powdered heavy cream, ghee, a chicken packet and some franks and you got a nice dinner after a long day on trail. Interesting indeed. I hope all is well with the entire SK clan. My low carb hubby wants to try this, thanks for reviewing it Steve I'm curious as to how my blood glucose would act since I'm type 2 diabetic. But I will buy some to support you and to give my husband some more variety
I've also used the Great Low Carb Bread Company's pea protein pasta and just stirred blue box powder into it for my Type-2 brother, and he wasn't mad at all about it.
cheese isn't the issue lol...cook the pasta in broth or bullion...and add shredded parm during the mixing....I can't wait for this!
I feel like someday we'll figure out how to blend some of the chew from shirataki into a pea protein or lupin-based pasta and that day, when it happens, shall be a very. happy. day.

I will check this out. I actually make my own Mac & cheese comfort dish with konjac macaroni noodles, real dehydrated cheddar cheese, heavy cream & butter powders, sea salt, pepper, a bit of light olive oil & those little canned Vienna sausages. It comes out tasting just like what my grandmother made for us in the pre-80's. The dried powder products are clean, pure ingredients & can be ordered in those #10 size survival food cans. Keto doesn't have to mean deprivation!

I’m the crazy person that loves kraft macaroni and cheese. However I feel that it’s the packet of cheese that I like and the macaroni is just the conduit. I ordered the powdered cheese from Amazon in a great big container. It has three carbs I think it’s per 2 tablespoons which is a lot because it’s powder. It’s really good. I throw pork rinds in the air fryer for about 30 seconds I take them out and shake them with the cheese powder and it’s a pretty good snack. I haven’t figured out how to make macaroni and cheese out of it yet because I don’t have anything to use for the conduit. Ty for the review
Let me guess, the Mac blend? Me too, though I was going to use a pasta extruder to make macaroni using "I don't sugar coat's" pasta recipe. I think mac and cheese is my kryptonite. I'm type 2 diabetic, so yeah, no cheat days allowed.
The best was the pre packaged Bob Evans "Six Cheese" from the refrigerator section. Nothing else like it.
The lack of a spike pretty much seals the deal. I'll definitely have to give that a try.

When I used to make traditional Mac & Cheese in my pre-keto days, I would always add a little bit of real cheddar or American cheese (whichever I had on hand) because I thought it added to the taste of it. I would think it should work on this as well.

"I don't sugar coat" has recipies for lupin flour pasta. However she may use vital wheat gluten in it. Indefinitely going to try this when available
Yes, she uses gluten. I bought the supplies for making her pasta, and an extruder for macaroni, but still haven't used it.
@@hammeigh let me know. I made her bread for my husband that doesn't have a gluten problem. I would rather stay a little cleaner if I can but maybe I'll test my blood sugar after eating a slice of bread with the gluten just for learning purposes
I just ordered 3 boxes of white and 3 boxes of yellow. I also plan on adding extra cheese when I make it (I did this with kraft when I used to eat it). Told them you were the one I heard it from. Keep up the good work

A little high in carbs. Maybe add a little more cheese? Sounds like something to try if you miss Kraft dinner.
I’ve had a little experience recently in designing some commercial food products, and I can tell you the cheese is a very hard flavor to get right.
Seven net carbs is not bad for such a dish tho...
Thank you for this review. My daughter is 4, type one diabetic, and has celiac disease. I was really interested when you said you were going to check your cgm. I was on the fence about buying this product, we’re going to give it a try. We need a filling pasta that is easy on her blood sugar.
As a heads up, I'm working with another company that is releasing a lupini pasta within the next couple of months that is really fantastic and had zero impact on my glucose. It will also probably be less expensive than this. I can't tell you any more, as I signed a non-disclosure agreement.
They are shipping!! Got mine last week but I had Covid and lost my taste so didn't want to waste it. But taste is back and as soon as I can get to the store to buy heavy cream I'll be making me some!!

My mom taught me how to make homemade egg noodles and usually they came out a little "boney" or chewy , not quite like store bought, She perfected the recipe and eventually they came out to the perfect store bought noodle texture and then we didn't like them. I have been looking for a Keto version to make my own noodles and maybe the Lupin flour would be the perfect ingredient that would replace the white flour, With the egg noodles the "Yolks" are what made them chewy and Mom used less yolks and more egg whites, and that was the ticket to the perfect noodle, I am hopeing you , Steve, would take on this adventure. I would never hold you to it though.. LOL Thanks for the review, I watched Indigo Nill video on this product and the kids seemed to like them too.

Looks yummy, but think I'll stay away because I would eat the whole box! It's interesting that you talked about the Freestyle Libre. For a year now, when it is on my right arm it's 20-40 (sometimes 50) points higher than my left arm. I called the company to see if anyone else had experienced the same thing and they just kept telling me they would replace it. Didn't get an answer.
If you read any user forums or Reddit posts about the Libre, the issues with their sensors are widespread. Pretty scary, given that people may make insulin decisions based on these erroneous readings.
If you think it should be cheesier I would think you could add your own cheese (the real stuff) to kick it up a notch. My question is do they separately sell just the macaroni? Would it work as penne that you could make with a tomato based sauce?

Steve, Thank you for the review and the info about availability. I know I wouldn't be able to check at 7am since I was driving to work then but I remembered when I got home and it was still available! Since there was a discount, I ordered more of the sleep turmeric stuff for my husband that you recommended. We first got it from your birthday week and he loves it. (I found that it stains clothes if it spills though)

I did the preorder based on this review. I made it for the first time last night for my grandkids (8 and 10). I totally agree the chew was not good. My husband thought it was okay but I was ready to pitch it. Grandkids ate about a quarter cup and were done. I cooked the pasta for 8 min. May try it again when the memory fades... With different timing but my initial reaction was “send it back!” I am very sensitive to mouth feel. Darn!
I made some tuna casserole with it and added some extra cream cheese and cheddar. The wife and I both really liked it that way.
@@SeriousKeto i will keep trying. I absolutely hate sending things back. I did add browned ground beef to it but the chew. I did 8 min. And we thought it was underdone. I will try again.

Hey Steve what about using JUST their pasta and making your own cheese sauce ? the powder cheese is what probably has the "natural flavors " anyway and probably the sauce one makes will taste way better
You could do that. I expect that this summer we’ll see more companies releasing lupin pasta.

The Aviate brand of lupini flour is my favorite. If you search my channel for "lupin" or "lupini", you'll find a few recipes where I use it.

They will continue to get softer (and eventually mushy) the longer you cook them.

I'm not sure if I want to try it. If it doesn't come close to the blue box stuff it might lead me down a rabbit hole of wanting the nuclear orange mac. Childhood memories are tough to escape.

It certainly wouldn't be squeaky clean, but you *could* use blue box powder with this pasta. I've done it before (my brother is diabetic, not technically keto), and we were happy as clams.

My hope is now that a "big player" in the keto products market is making lupin pasta that we'll see other companies get on board. This, in my hopes, will lead to a greater variety and more competitive pricing on lupin pasta.

I've tried lupin flour so many times and in so many ways and it just never tastes good to me. I'm glad it's given people an option (I know I love mac and cheese), but no matter how good people say it is, it probably won't taste good to me. I'll stick with having a small cheat bowl of real mac and cheese every now and again, lol

I got a silly question to ask I just started watching and previewing your videos in one of the videos couple years ago you had what it was called keto pancakes and I was kind of concerned as to why con't you try chicken rind powder instead of pork rind power. Would love to see a video on using chicken rind powder.
