The most beautiful statue you will ever see, Dignity, is about 4 hrs east of Sturgis in Chamberlain! You have to visit there! The first time I stopped to take a photo, I sensed a young woman walking past helping her elderly grandmother walk towards the statue. She shook with emotion, allowing me in a small way to experience its deep meaning to native american women!

I'm 51. I remember a TV show from the late 70's early 80's called Real People. It was on Sunday night's if I remember correctly. There was an episode about Sturgis. I'm thinking it was about 1980. It was about a little old Grandma who would spend the entire 2 weeks going into bars at night and telling bikers about Jesus. Keep in mind, at this point in Sturgis' history it was a lot of Hells Angels, Mongols, Bandidos and other 1% clubs. Independent guy and gals. Really a pretty rowdy scene as far as drinking, drugging and generally running amok for 2 weeks straight. I'll never forget that footage of that little old lady surrounded by about 10 people, some guys are the typical 6' 6" beer belly and tatoo's from the waist up to their necks. Standing there weeping in front of the whole bar as this lady told them about the gospel of His love for a soul. Keep in mind as well, these people (bikers) do not take kindly to disrespecting or being unkind to a woman. Especially one old enough to be the mom of every guy that started the Hells Angels. You just let her speak her peace with respect. A man I suspect would not have been given that much leeway in that crowd. She was fearless, but you knew she really cared about these bikers and was never condemning in any way. Just kind and loving. I'll never forget that footage. To be honest, I think I only saw it that one time. I'm gonna go see if I can find it lol. Enjoy your riding Jess.

I loved the setting change you did from over exposed to better to bring out the sign in the intro. Simple, but cool effect.
Very smart to ride the fun roads in the area before the big rally. Cuz it'll be a cluster fuck then for sure!
Good to see you did some dirt! I don't care that it looked easy. You can go some really cool places without having to do expert routes. Better for the blood pressure, too. And hey, for those that want the challenge, go for it. There's riding for everyone here in America.
And that's the trick to surviving on the road, Jess. - knowing that they're going to pull in front of you. Look ahead and think from their perspective. It is the P in SIPDE, after all (Scan, Identify, Predict, Decide, Execute). Yeah, it's a crappy acronym, but I didn't invent it.
Mt. Rushmore is cool. I loved that eating in the cafeteria was like having lunch with the presidents cuz of that huge window. It was surreal. I felt robbed that my National Parks Pass didn't work there and they wanted $20 PLUS parking. I've only been there once, on my Road King. I wasn't even riding ADV back then, so I didn't even think to look to see what ADV there is in the area.
I hope you got a chance to see the Crazy Horse monument. I saw the night show, which was really cool. I think they might finish it by the time I'm 160. Funding is a problem. It's a lot of work, more than Rushmore due to the size. That makes for slow progress.
Threading the needle is fun. Kinda hard to stand up on my Road King with the forward foot pegs. You're arms are way too tight and you're doing a stomach crunch the entire time. But I told you that riding the Black Hills was really gonna float your boat. I like that you didn't put music over some of the parts. Nice touch. There you go being all artsy fartsy and shit and wowing us with your creativity. One thing I learned as a musician is that it doesn't only matter what you play, but also when you don't.
Your honor, the alleged needles allegedly brightened my day. Thanks for the vid. See ya Monday!

Jess, I have been to Sturgis a couple times myself and I never get tired of the place and all the great riding ! You should check out Ft. Hayes from the Dances With Wolfs Movie and Deadwood. I love that part of the country and the scenery. Have fun and travel safe.... You will see a total different side of Sturgis during Rally time then you do now its just amazing all the fun you can have !
