Thanks for posting this video. Was feeling a bit sorry for myself after scratching yesterday so haven't felt up for checking the tracker much since then but this video gave me a push to check it again and see how some of the riders I met at the start are getting on. Pleased to see they are having some incredible rides. Hope you are able to post some more (bonus) race coverage.
It was great meeting you at the start! 😊 By sheer coincidence, I nearly scratched in the same town due to brake failure. Luckily, a fantastic bike shop saved the day. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Josh. On the bright side, we can all enjoy your excellent coverage now. Superb job! 👍
Yup, needed physio after carrying my son around far too long. I think most people have imbalances they dont know about - you're probably more aware with bike fits etc, but bodies are amazing at adapting and giving you little hints they're struggling. We often dont listen or we don't hear them as we're less tuned with nature these days, and suddenly BOOM. Injury. Hope you recover well. There will be other events, but still must be hugely disappointing after all the planning and expense etc. And hats off to you for jumping on the commentary - what a nice touch. Probably still gives a good sense of being in the race too, not sure if anyone else in the world has ridden and then comentated !
I had a similar injury that caused me to scratch from the 2022 tour divide. In hindsight that was absolutely the correct call the scratch and having that gutting experience was something that was good for me in the long run
Gutted for you Josh. But happy you’re back doing the updates. I hope your knees get better and start riding again soon and enjoy this British weather 🚴🏼♂️🚴🏼♂️
Josh, thanks for the report - love the insights. I thought this was the hardest start that I've done in TCR, (tcr#3, 6, now 10). The previous was just the Muur, then off into the dark. I thought this was way harder, but I absolutely loved it. Riding off into the night, then riding the next day is hard. This time, with 85k of the tour of flanders in your legs, being pushed by surrounding riders..(can you really go easy up a climb as some one comes past you..??) its even harder. I am generally stunned by the distances covered by the mid packers.... the level goes up every year.... I unfortunately planned to scratch at G'bergan, (family issues, now riding TPR4 instead)
I had the same problem. Switched from 175mm to 152mm cranks with oval chainring and from clips to flats. I'm 188cm and 78 kg. All my knee problems gone.
Sorry to watch you scratch. You're a testament to perseverance and strength of mind. You talked very briefly about Victor Bosoni without going into detail. Transpires that after almost leading around the 600km point he realised he had left his passport in a service station 275 km behind him. Had to do a u-turn, retrieve it, and then continue racing. That's 550 km he hadn't planned on doing. Quite phenomenal. Not sure too why no one aside from yourself mentioned or rated Abdullah prior to the race. As you said in previous vlog he won the Indie-pac (Trans Australia) race (4,000km) and also the Rhino race across Southern Africa where he didn't sleep for 4 days.. And he's an Aussie ! The man has form.
Thanks Josh for giving us these updates. Sorry about your knee, but I think you made the sensible decision, and wish you recover quickly for the next adventure. Cheers.
Sorry to hear you had to scratch. Hope you haven’t had the post scratch blues as bad as me scratching from the PCR. Best to look after your knee. You’ve got lots more of these to come, so you want to take care of yourself. Knees can be a bummer but hopefully you’ve got a good physio 😊
Whoo hooo - not your knee but the report. Love your insight. Was following your dot as well. Hope you heal up quickly. Just posted this on the tcr facebook page.
Sounds like an IT band problem....various stretches and strength exercises you can do for that.....many on UA-cam. I had that problem training for CTS [South] this year....had to bail out 135miles into a training ride....got it sorted before the event though and did pretty well 😊
My experience to date with TCR is that DNF > DNS... I scratched on TCR08 after 1900km in pretty much the same place, just after the Brenner pass, so I kind of feel your disappointment Josh. But you did good man, try not to beat yourself up. Some times you eat the best, sometimes the bear eats you...
I must admit that I soon realised I would be missing your race reports as you were in the race! This was a highlight of last year. It was great to see you initially running well and accounting for yourself very nicely even against the likes of strasser etc. sorry you got a niggle - just one of those things I think
Sorry about the knee, your loss is our gain with these race reports! Hope it sorts itself out soon.

pleased to see you back providing race coverage - sorry its at the cost of not racing.
get well soon.
Sorry to hear about the scratch but glad you're taking care of yourself and happy to have these excellent race reports.

Yes, amazing. The brain has a rough idea how much you weigh and makes adjustments if you lose or gain weight.
Sorry you had to drop out! I also scratched with sprained knee in Munich (#133) my first TCR - much harder than it looks!

Sorry to hear you had to scratch Josh. Injuries are a fact of life as one gets older. Take it from me, I'm now in my 60s!
I‘m so sorry for you and your knee. I hope you feel better soon!
Feel for you, Josh, with such a good effort in the Accursed
Thanks Josh for giving us these updates. Sorry about your knee, but I think you made the sensible decision, and wish you recover quickly for the next adventure. Cheers.
Been there! Those who’ve experienced this know the frustration. Sharing these details is very insightful for others. Patience with the recovery Josh!
Feel for you Josh. I had to pull out of the BC epic 1000 this year from the same knee issue. Narrowing my pedal stance has helped so far.
Happy to see you back online so quickly :)
Sorry to hear you had to scratch.

So sorry to hear you had to scratch, Josh. I was looking forward to following your ride. BTW. What happened to Victor?
I grabbed popcorn for this one 😅
Very good report Josh. Gutted about the knee injury though !
Thanks for this, sorry the race went badly for you.

Having seen your scratch, I was waiting for the update. Sorry to hear you had knee issues. It’s an occasional issue for me during ultras.
Though sad that you didn't get to finish, get well soon
The races loss is our gain
That is a suprise. Hope you heal quickly.
Sorry to hear about your knee, Josh! Thanks for your reports and all around great content! Hope to see you back racing soon! 🙏
Bummer on scratching the race. Better you value your health over finishing the race. Looks like you were doing well.
Knee problems are a challenge, ice cream is probably one of the worst things you can eat post workout though
I would call for ice on that one. Looks painful. Better to scratch than to risk months of recovery.
Do I recall you opted for mtb instead of road pedals on your Definition? Might that have been a factor with the knee? Heal soon.

Dont know what crank length you use, but shorter solves problems
17:19 nice jersey ✊
Why should you never scratch at night? Low mood?
🎉
