The difference in updrafts was that in BotW you can make your own updrafts almost anywhere, while in ER they are where they are.

BotW still has a more dynamic world.
Elden Ring might be big. Exhaustingly big... but it still doesn't feel as alive as BotW's world does.
In Elden Ring the wind might blow or it might rain... but that's about it.
In BotW, the sky churns and froths. It can be sunny one minute then turn into a torrential lightning storm... only to clear up and a rainbow forms over the horizon. Enemies dance around fires. Birds slowly stalk about in the grass. An NPC may get into a tussle with a bokoblin.
BotW still feels so much more dynamic than Elden Ring. I barreled through Elden Ring in 2 weeks, got the platinum and really have no strong desire to go back.
But even after completing all the shrines and DLC in BotW, I still want to be there. Why?
Because, just like with Majora's Mask, the world just feels fun to be in. It feels alive.

Elden ring is laser focused on gameplay. In botw, the world itself is the game. In Elden ring, the world connects the game together. Elden ring succeeds where botw failed with massive, immersive dungeons. Botw nailed the world aspect, while Elden ring detracted from it to improve the overall experience of an action RPG.

Botw’s world is so empty after the first playthrough. It’s empty besides shrines, towns, and towers. All of which are super repetitive. Most shrines follow 1 of 4 main gimmicks.

Same. ER did some fantastic work with the ambience of some areas (Caelid, all the underground areas, and Leyndell are very nice), but I feel like BoW is way more expressive with its visuals.
      Plus, it runs smoothly...
Finishing 100% BotW (even the Korok seeds...) was a more pleasant experience than my first ER blind playthrough.

    • @friend_trilobot
      @friend_trilobot 2 роки тому +4

I'm the same, and there's no shame in that - its not shallow. If the art style makes it less fun that's a valid reason not to play. Its a game, lol, the point is to have a good time. Low graphics are easier to ignore or spark imagination, but highly rendered graphics that aren't aesthetic to you can be a big distraction.

Each game has its own strenght and weakness and are both amazing, but I'd put BotW above ER for one important reason: BotW feels way more polished.
Of course Nintendo having way more founds, possibly a bigger and more competent staff (maybe, I don't know), and the game being simpler in many aspects allows for that.
But I'd take a game that does two things perfectly, than one that has all the bells and wistles but broken, in general.
It feels like ER went a big too big, and thus left some parts unfinished.
    Bugs here and there.
    Frame drops and crashes.
Balance issues both in PvE and PvP.
    Net code.
Quest lines you couldn't finish at launch.
Fights made sometimes frustrating by bad terrain (Yes sure put that Gargoyle on the stairs. The slope, railings and stuff won't make this fight a pain. Oh, I stunned that troll? Well too bad he buried his head in a boulder so now I can't hit his weakpoint. Great. And now I'm stuck in a tree, why is that thing here?!? Dogs!)
Not that BotW had no issues, but I couldn't really list ones that aren't in ER too (copy-paste enemies and dungeons etc). Maybe the weapon breaking mechanism or the lacklusters dungeons (I mean, the four beasts are nice, but they don't hold much a candle against the Forest Temple of OoT or the Stone Tower of MM for example).

Well er has multiplayer and a weapon sandbox + interesting CORE combat, hence the balancing. Not saying botw doesn’t have interesting combat, but it’s interesting because of the physics and weird gameplay mechanics, not the swordplay itself.

The mythos Elden ring has blows BOTW out of the water ,

@Mad Max Yes, BoTW is more polished in that regard, because things are even worse in ER. The frame drops in some areas are horrible, with sometimes crashes. Not sure what you didn't understand in "MORE polished".
And copy-pasted enemies are a thing in both games, as I said.

In my opinion, BOTW’s world is more interesting to explore, the sandbox is way better than Elden ring with all these different and cool mechanics. Elden Ring bosses/difficulty are probably the only real advantage it has going for it. People say Elden Ring redefined open worlds but it’s just like every other open world on the market. The open world in elden ring is pretty lack luster and boring. I do think the gameplay is better in BOTW. In my opinion, I prefer BOTW over elden ring any day (I play Elden Ring too). While you’re entitled to your opinion, I think elden ring has vastly better combat and progression, player customization, bosses and enemies, multiplayer mechanics, and is simply a better looking game with more memorable and unique locations, better npc quests and npcs overall, and much more interesting story. Botw has climbing, which is fun, and shield surfing, as well as a more dynamic physics system, but even still nothing beats the simple but effective combat of Elden Ring.

What Elden Ring suceeds in, while BOTW fails is to make exploration not just fun but also rewarding
In Elden Ring you can run around and if you are attentive and thorough enough you can find an entire hidden area worth an hour or two with unique enemies and bosses and loot that you wouldn't have find elsewhere
In BOTW the exploration might be fun but it's largely pointless, since 90% of the things you can discover are shrines, korok seeds or enemy camps and none of those are special since they reuse the same aspects over and over again
In BOTW my reaction was never "cool a new area" when exploring but only "oh another shrine" and the former is much more rewarding than the latter

As for the puzzles I kinda have to disagree, they are not better in Elden Ring, but they aren't good in BOTW, shrines are overly simplistic since they don't have a lot of mechanics the devs could actually use due to the free open world design, maybe 1 in 10 is actually a bit of a riddle but overall it's rather underwhelming
I fully agree with the weather mechanics though, those are special and something I haven't seen in any other open world game and it's a very neat addition that adds to he world's immersiveness

Zelda: better AI, physics, enemies are more smart. The world is more "Alive" which makes the exploration a bit more interesting. Link feels cold, link can feel insolation, Stealth meter. Not to mention the level design in the main dungeons and the puzzles adds more to the game. Downpoints > not that much variety in combat, not too much personalization option, not enough side mechanics as Elden Ring
Elden Ring: Better combat, more options to customize your characters in a certain class or with the many different options, more mechanics like weapon enhancement, ashes of war, and summons. Downsides: worse physics, world is deemed dead as it doesn't interact with you in the same rich way that zelda's world does, poor level design due to the lack of puzzles in the dungeons as you don't think to proceed because you just need to move forward and prepare for the next battle until you reach the boss.

      - BOTW is puzzle but Elden Ring is a Maze, notice the difference

      - Level Design In BoTW is also handcrafted, the dungeons and shrines, while has identical visuals, still have their own unique puzzles and challenges, nothing feels recycled. Also, how did you come to the conclusion that Elden Ring is 3x denser than BoTW?
      - BoTW also has adaptive a.i, and in my opinion, better than Elden Ring. A.I reacted to mass, weather, fire, electricity, and to their surounding environment as well, physic plays a huge role in this game and it can affect the A.I
      - Funny enough, BoTW also has an apocalyptic theme, set 100 years after the calamity ganon, you will come across many ancient building and ruins, unlike Elden Ring however, BoTW still manage to make the world feels alive despite having an apocalyptic theme, but perhaps Elden Ring just have different approaches
      - BoTW is a Puzzle while Elden Ring is a maze? Care to elaborate?
      - This last point especially applies more to BoTW than it is to Elden Ring, the game literally just throws you into the open world without giving any mandatory objectives, any main quest can be done in any order and you don’t even have to do it if you don’t want to, you can just go straight to the final boss right after leaving the great plateau

Not played Elden Ring (I don’t have a computer and these days just work off a tablet + the only gaming console I own being the Switch), I think both games have their strengths. Elden Ring’s graphics are grittier and realistic while Breath of the Wild’s is Ghibli-like and animated. I can’t really compare everything else besides the graphics. I’ve heard that Elden Ring’s world is about twice as big as Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule (and depending on who you ask, more or less rewarding to explore). Judging from this video, horseback combat and shield parrying seems a lot fore fun in Breath of the Wild but Elden Ring’s wildlife and bosses are far more terrifying. I won’t comment on dungeons vs shrines + Divine Beasts because I’ve heard over and over again that Breath of the Wild’s weakest aspects are its dungeons and after playing the older Zelda games, yeah, I can see that. I’m personally more attracted to Breath of the Wild’s graphics but that’s just personal taste.
Also, is it just me but does Elden Ring lack combat music? If there is, it sounds… a little anticlimactic? The lack of combat music might seem like a strange nitpick, but the main reason is that I’m sick and tired of listening to people say that “Breath of the Wild has no music”. Taste in music is subjective, of course, but to say that it has none is a little unfair to Breath of the Wild. The soundtrack is over 6 hours long (about 5 hours long if you remove all sound effects + DLC music) with some of them being my absolute favourite pieces ever (I’m biased to piano-heavy or piano-based music because I’m a pianist myself so Breath of the Wild, sounding like a Ghibli film, is very much my vibe). Yes, compared to the Zeldas of before, Breath of the Wild is eerily quiet, but I think the silence serves a thematic purpose - to show that Hyrule is broken and no longer the colourful, loud kingdom it used to be. When there IS music present, however, it’s amazing. I don’t know anything about Elden Ring’s music to judge for myself but in the video present, only the “Foggy Forest” bit has any kind of music at all. A little strange since I think some low, brooding, tense, brass-heavy music might match the gritty art style of the game quite well and ramp up the tension when fighting these absolutely terrifying bosses, amplifying the combat experience. Just asking from a curious, music-loving gamer.

    • @maverikhunterx23
      @maverikhunterx23 2 роки тому +1

Elden Ring actually has tons of music! It’s mostly atmospheric, so when you get into combat it doesn’t really change with just the basic mobs. Actually, a lot of the music in this video has it playing. It just blends really well. However, the boss music is some of the most intense music I’ve heard in a fantasy game.
I think why people pick on BotW’s music score is because the other Zelda titles had music heavily implemented into the gameplay while also having very memorable scores. Like, I can recall Epona’s song, Saria’s song, or even Zelda’s Lullaby off the cuff at any given time. BotW has great music, it’s just not used in the way that Zelda normally uses it, and that may be why it gets tossed to the wayside? It’s also less conventional music, which I think makes it harder for the average joe to listen to. But it blends very nicely, just like Elden Ring.

I know BotW's OST is picked upon because of the lack but I do think when there is music, it's remarkable. I can assume Elden Ring's music is just like that too and the music really kicks in when the boss fights ramp up (instead of having some combat music for the basic/minor enemies like in BotW, which has an overall "combat" theme for minor enemies and individual boss music for tougher enemies). Lots of things in the Eldin Ring example break the immersion of the game like the lightening just sounds like loud electric crackle while the lightening in BoTW has a proper thunder sound to it and actually sounds scary. Also, in the bears comparison the movement of the bears are more fluid and looks more natural in BoTW than the ones in Eldin Ring. ugh . . . combat better in botw? Maybe in a sense of how the environment can be interacted with in regards to combat but overall . . . thats a hard no for me (maybe it is just that much better for you). The combat choices in elden ring are much more varied in what u decide to build and use for attacking. The choices are far more varied in er than botw. That being said i do like the combat in botw but at least to me i much prefer the way er does it.

Nah Elden Ring has no where near the world interactions. So many creative things you can do in the game

To be honest, I like this last Souls learned or had this similarities with BOTW since it made the game more engaging and interesting.
I hope next Zelda keeps on learning from other games and other games keep on learning from Zelda. I've always hated the "X game is a ripoff of Y game" or shit like that.
