I grew up in Galveston, and my dad worked part time at Sea-Arama, keeping their books. I never knew why it closed. I love these behind the scene stories. Thanks for sharing.
Sad story plus bizarre. You learned a significant lesson. We visited Sea Arama in July 1987, loved it! P.S. i have your book "Galveston Memories". Thank you.
I remember going as a kid. The aquarium and specifically the Giant Grouper amazed me as a youngster. Where exactly was it located. We go to Galveston every so often and I can’t place where it was. We stayed at the Flagship when I went as a kid in the 70s.
I worked at Sea-Rama in public relations. I really hate to hear that sad story since it was the first aquarium in Texas. What a beautiful sight it was and still could be
I’ve always wondered what hat place was every time I would take of out of the airport towards the beach. It looks like something that was great and that it never came back after a hurricane or maybe the 70s when air conditioning became popular and affordable.
My dad planted all the palm trees in sea arama, and the hilltop motel. Alot of people don't know this, but Joe Moody had a hand in the purchase of sea arama, but he got cold feet and walked away before the feds came in and found all those violations.
I remember the kiss the cobra on the head show. The snake wanted no part of it and bit the kisser on the wrist. I was about 10. From that day on I had a snake Phobia
The few times I went to Sea Arama as a kid were wonderful. There were stories about financial downfall killing all the fun - later when I was in high school. Thanks for sharing (?)……
This breaks my heart

Wonder what the Ski area was polluted with? I remember going there as a kid. Cool story
Very interesting but it was like watching paint dry with someone smacking half the time.
You know what…that’s just rude. There is an off button anytime you get tired of listening to someone.
