  • EPI member Luis Martinez, Ph.D., and members within his lab work on the mechanisms of brain invasion and colonization of Cryptococcus neoformans, an encapsulated yeast causing the majority of cases of fungal meningitis. The team's research investigates how the fungus makes its way from the lungs to the brain and how the fungus interacts with cells inside of the brain. Their work aims to find a treatment that can mitigate damage to the brain of infected hosts.
