  • This is our first time casting anything (other than my daughters life cast of her head, lol).
    So we are in NO WAY to be confused with experts! We made a few mistakes (didn't need as many coats with thinner....registry keys could have been done better) but the end result was a 100% workable mold which ultimately lead to a successful helmet pull!
    Thanks to our prop making friends who helped us out with tips along the way (you know who you are!).
    This is part 1 of a 2 part series.
    Materials used; Smooth-On Rebound 25 for the silicone mold, Smooth-On Plasti-Paste II for the mother mold (outer shell) and Smooth-Cast 300 for the final helmet.

    No sound? Maybe it’s my computer. Weird.

      Yeah apparently UA-cam slapped our video with copyright claims for the music. There was no actual talking, since most of it is sped up. Sure is quiet without the music though!

    @Cosplay4UsAll Cool video. I read in the comments that UA-cam took your sound away. Bummer!
    If you would be so kind to update your title or description to collectively over time, save the world years of time checking their settings. :D

      Isn't it cool? We actually made it ourselves! You can get all the parts (including the metal piece that you attach to the wood to make it turn) in most big hardware stores (if you are in the US). Something like this www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-6-in-Lazy-Susan-Turntable-49548/203661089 (they are also available on Amazon).

    is that paper tissue???

    • @wendymurphy542
      @wendymurphy542 7 років тому

      Yes, lol. Tissue/Kleenex, separated in to single ply sheets, laid on the plasti paste before it cures. Really smooths the surface nicely! You can also smooth out the surface by applying denatured alcohol or acetone (either with a gloved hand or lightly brushing with a chip brush).

      Thanks!! How many inches should be the mimimum thickness of the the mother mold when you using plasti paste?Half an inch?

      Honestly, I don't recall off the top of my head (this was a few years ago), but all the specifics about cure times, thickness, etc should be available in the product info on Smooth-On's website :)

      About that. Again though, the specs and recommendations will be in the product paperwork :)
