Very interesting. Reminds me of the Frazer canyon in B.C. Canada. ..watch a few videos of the Frazer river and you understand why I say that. Great video. Looking forward to your second attempt. .love from Canada
Enjoyed the video very much! When trying to match up the exact filming spots you sometimes have to deal with things like weather, but you did a great job considering what you had to work with. Just seeing where a piece of cinematic history was filmed over 50 years ago is so cool and the movie still lives on all these years later.
The banjo boys name is Billy reden known him my whole life and the dr that cared 4 burts character was the dr that delivered me and my brother and his name was dr fowler
Did you know the “ toothless man “ in deliverance was Herbert Lee "Cowboy" Coward who was also an actor at Ghost Town in the Sky. Burt Reynolds was also an early actor a Ghost Town and they knew each other from there. Cowboy still lives in Haywood County NC.
the other guy, the one that committed the assault is Bill McKinney. You may know him from some other films. He was Captain "red legs" Terrell in Outlaw Josie Wales, he was one of the Black widows (the one with the horns on his helmet) In Every Which Way but Loose. He was also Dave the state police captain in Rambo First Blood.
I've been to the Bull Sluice many times. I had no idea that was where those scenes were shot. But it makes sense. The highway & parking lot are right there.
Hell ya it's rabun co born and raised in mtn city my name is Phillip love and this movie actually tarnished the way people looked at the locals and who ru if u don't mind me askin
Billy Redden, who was cast as the Banjo playing inbred, today works at the local Walmart. I saw a news clip about him and he says that Deliverance was the best thing that happened to him, though he didn't get paid much $ for the work and role. The late great Bill McKinney, the primary mountain man, has a huge resume of films. I had forgotten that he worked alot with Clint Eastwood, like The Outlaw Jose Wales. I did recognize him as one of the guards in The Green Mile. He's the one in the small room with the "switch", who throws it when he hears, "Roll on 2."
That scene was filmed at the Keowee-Toxaway Visitor Center on the Duke Power Dock at the Oconee Nuclear Station on Lake Keowee, reachable from the parking lot at the Visitor Center. If you slow down the tape you can see cars crossing the bridge on SC Hwy 183 across Lake Keowee as the hand comes out of the water. I need to get a DVD of the film just to see what it shows. We spent several hours with the 4 principal actors that afternoon during the filming. Only about 10 members of the crew were present with a huge Mitchell 70 mm camera. Two guys with scuba tanks spent about about 3 hour in the water filming the hand from about 5 different angles. Burt and John spent 2 hours in my office using the phone in my office to talk to friends using the company watts line. No cell phones in 1972!
The disaster scene of his movie was filmed at Tallulah Gorge. I've canoed the Chattooga River & Bull Sluice several times. The disaster scene was definitely not filmed there.
@3:00 Check out how long Burt's leg is from heel to knee and how short his upper leg/thigh is! Poor Burt, still so body conscious at that age which couldn't have been very comfortable. Between that huge boot heel and the inside lift he has to be gaining at least an extra 4 inches and it looks a bit ridicules. Well Burt loved his lifts... boot lifts, face lifts, eyelid and brow lifts, you name it. Such a shame too because he had such rugged iconic looks in the 60s and 70s, but by the 80s Burt starts looking a bit metro-sexual. It only goes downhill from there with his Jerry-curl hairpiece of the 90s, and later on in the new century his facial skin so thinly pulled back it was hard to look at him! Thankfully his sunglasses helped cover his slanted eyes. Don't get me wrong I love the guy and loved his earlier movies (up till Cannonball run, very little after), plus he contributed so much to his films it left him injured! I'm the ultimate fan which is why I just wish he grew old gracefully like a man. I think he would've been respected more as an actor and I think it would also have been a better look to match the type of characters he played. He also should be commended for his loyal friendships to his acting buddies like Jerry Reed and Dom Deluise to name a few. Too bad he couldn't stay loyal to the women in his life which ultimately left him a broken man losing half his shit a few times in divorces to the point of bankruptcy having to sell his ranch and auction off all his belongings of which I'm assuming included that canoe.
And this movie was made n rabun co ga and the movie tarnished the way people looked at us still 2 this day I was born and raised n rabun co and my name is Phillip love kin 2 the loves in mtn city just north of Clayton
Perhaps, get out and do some hiking yourself and you will not be sucking for air...sounds like your a southerner and being so close to the river and or any water source as well as walking down a trail...very fortunate to not crossed paths with a CottonMouth, Timber Rattler or other venomous no-shoulders that are all over the area...wearing flip-flops probably not smart.....Oh well, I just wasted 13 minutes....I hope ur approach improves because this was pretty bad...not intended to be offensive just honest feedback. Take Care
The author James Dickey also played the role of the sheriff in the movie
I was trying to find the spot where he said, "Don't come back" but didn't have much luck.
Another excellent video! My Dad took me to see that movie when it came out. Thanks for the memories
No problem man! Glad you enjoyed it. This video was really hard to put together lol

Thanks! It wasn't easy. One of these days I want to go back and refilm it. The trip to Raven Rock is not easy whatsoever.

He's got a purty mouth ain't he. 😂😂😂
He died

The toothless man was not "Cowboy". Cowboy was the one who "immaculated" Buddy.
All part of the journey-thanks!
No problem!
Very interesting to see some of the places. Thank you for showing us. Did anyone tell you, you look like ned Beatty.
The scene where the boy did not shake his hands after the dueling banjos was because Drew's character takes the lords name in vain. He says God damn.
Is that really true? Would that be the reason u think?
the boy wasnt using his own hands to play either
That kid is now in his later years and still plays like the expert that he became on the banjo !
Very enjoyable, thank you :)
I was born when it came out.
would you go to "Funny Games" filming location?
I've been to the Bull Sluice many times. I had no idea that was where those scenes were shot. But it makes sense. The highway & parking lot are right there.
It's Rabun County, not Clayton County.
Alrighty then. My bad lol

@@susiedyer3260my nana lives there and I live in Blairsville
are you the kid playing the banjo's son
Still an enjoyable video and I learned a few interesting things.

Huh, that part I didn't know. I knew that Billy worked at a Walmart somewhere in that area.
The mountain boy won the dueling banjo competition, not Drew (Ronny Cox).
It's Clayton G.a in Rabun County. Not Clayton County. It's my hometown.
Thank you!
Was the nightmare scene at the end of the film of the hand coming out from the lake, filmed at Buford Dam in Georgia on Lake Lanier?

It took me a while to see the canoe - at first I thought it was part of a wall - I did not expect it to be show sideways.
The disaster scene of his movie was filmed at Tallulah Gorge. I've canoed the Chattooga River & Bull Sluice several times. The disaster scene was definitely not filmed there.
They weren't kayaking they were canuing.
I know you meant to type canoeing, darn auto-correct.
@teodelfuego well I failed math
The boy won the dueling banjo as Drew stated towards the end "I'm lost"
It was a canoe trip, not a kayak trip as you first stated.
The bridge going from a wooden walkway to a concrete monster was heartbreaking. Shame.
Brother, you refer to the location but you don’t tell your viewers where it is.
Did you go down to Aintry?
I did not unfortunately. I do plan on revlogging this video one day.
Is Aintry a real place?
@@dunhill1 its fictional
Ain't no trees there.
It would have been nice to see the rock but a good effort.
I wanted to, but the road to get back to it was horrendous and it was about to rain.
Good movie
nobody ever goes to the most important shooting location in this movie.
Its a interesting movie i dont know where the story came from ???

He was definitely one-of-a-kind lol.
Georgia is very nice wasnt one of the friday the 13th films filmed there

I thought this was all filmed at a trump rally
Deliverance, Trump rally....Brokeback Mountain, Joe Biden rally. Anyone but Joe or Don in 2024.
