It looks as if their inspiration for the face was Boris Karloff from the original 1930's Mummy film. Looks just like the Karloff Makeup from that film.

Dude, this Animatronic just jumped his way to the top of my favorites, seriously so cool. Also his face markings reminds me of the band avatar.
