Thank's Andy. I really appreciate the Opti input. You always have great information and go above & beyond for your customers, just you were in Texas. Keep On Keepin' On!
Yep, Im still pissed Evinrude is gone. 🤦🏻. Great channel gents 🏋🏻♂️
Great video dude! It actually little bit relieving as well LOL. I recently purchased a used Phoenix with the 225 Pro XP and I'm happy to hear that there aren't any major issues with them. Thanks for the video!
200 hours on my 2022 250 V8 merc. Motor has been sound. Lower...not so much, upper seal gone at 36 hours....probably assembled on a Friday. Merc replaced and wanted it back. Replacement broke a prop shaft running full tilt without hitting anything.....fade to black! Had a defect in the shaft. Broke just outside the rear seal. Merc again took care of it including the prop. replaced with a different shaft and prop nut setup. Running the Florida grass, cant brag more about the performance! Great video guys!
My 2020 Suzuki 250SS just rolled 440 hrs with the only problem I have had was the nut on the cowling latch backed off. It's been a great engine so far on my ChampioN 203. Best outboard I have owned and I have had Optimax, and an EFI, an Evenrude Etc 225, a Johnson 200 and an Evinrude 115 and a 35 along with a Yamaha 20 4 stroke and a 25 Merc elec start.
In Massachusetts all the commercial salt water guys run Yamaha or Suzuki . The salt kills the Mercury’s I’ve seen it 100 times
2020 and 440 hours ? Then you must be going office everyday with your boat!....
Love all this info, great video
That's why when my Ficht went out on me, my 2000 Stratos got a 2023 SHO. Tested and proven with the bugs worked out.
Preach it Brother! Great vid!
Thank you. Keep up the good work
I’ve put over 600 hours on a 2013 150 Etec gen 1 and it has always got me from A to B and back. Best motor I have ever owned. My next will likely be Suzuki.
Sounds like u didn’t let it sit around
exactly the same as me.
Evinrude are good motors you just have to run them
I’m surprised the locating pin issue on the HPDI wasn’t mentioned. I personally experienced it and doing research I feel like it was it’s number one failure point. Also, the SHO doesn’t didn’t drop out until 09-10 as far as I was aware.
I have a 2000 Mercury 225 hp Optimax where the power head blew. Got a rebuilt 98 power head for it along with an upgraded compressor. Only issue I have had since then was the belt tensioner pulley went out and got that replaced. I believe my mechanic said that was a recall item back in 2006 (?) but I can’t remember. Thanks for the videos!!
Yea those alt belts would fail on all of them. And took ages to get on top of.
Worked on a 19 merc 150 four stroke with a bad alternator. Not charging and drawing 3.5amps. Have seen the starter issue on the new v6/v8. Trim/starter relay issues (mostly the 75-115)
Trim sender issues on a bunch of them.
Missed the g2 flywheel magnet falling out eating stator issues. Lots of people looking for flywheels and of course injectors and emm’s.
My 98’ Mercury optimax 150DFI has been reliable I’m ready to make the switch to a 175SS Suzuki.
I bought a new 2022 Caymas CX21 with Merc 250, at about 15 hours i noticed that same crack in housing, didn't hit crap I know of.... of course Mercury did not honor it under warranty, and I had to file insurance claim as I hit something to get it fixed... BS... but with all the trailer issues, performance issues with CX21... I traded in in this year for new Blazer 650 and with Merc of course, and bit the bullet.... love your content and videos...
I have ran the guts out of my 20hp Tohatsu EFI for over 600hrs and it runs perfect. Great video BTW!
If you talk to the guys from Jet-Marine, I have the Merc PRo XS 150 from 2022 and it had less than 30 hours on it and blew the powerhead out of it. Jet-a-marine took good care of it though.
2019 150xs 4stroke..
Thermostat stuck open causing milky oil in the winter..
Alternator pulling 2.4 amps with the key off...
Any more over/Unders coming out? I had an 03 225 optimax it was good til I had fuel pump problem. Then more problems happened
Comment below if y'all have had any of these outboards and what your experience has been like!
4.5 lbs. Tops. that's a 5.38lbs in my picture from pool 10. I think he's telling a fishing story 😂
2016 mercury 225 pro xs 450hrs nothing so for running good. Hope to get 1000hrs would be nice
2021v8 pro XS no issues so far. Gonna check my gear case for a crack like you said. I’ll also pay attention to my flywheel next time I pull my cowl off.
2015 Mercury Fourstroke 115. Perfect so far.
I love the channel guys! 2019 Mercury Pro XS 150. The alternator went bad at about 40 hours. It would drain the battery while not in use and wouldn’t put out enough voltage to charge the battery when running.
Our new susuzki 250ss had a trim pump failure at 100 hours. Just a heads up for the shop.
effing love this guy.
If you make a t-shirt with an outboard on it which says “road hard put up….” You’ll make a small fortune.
Just send me a small piece of the pie lol. Or some free merch haha!
Great video.
I've talked about this before, i work on a fleet of whale watching boats. They're 30ft rhibs, running twins. We put about 800-1000hrs on them every year. We got a set of v6 200hp coneheads, with the seapro gearcase in 2019 now sitting at 2000hrs. Lost a trim unit from corrosion and lost an alternator. After the alternator we still had poor charging, the solution? I ran another ground wire from the alternator to the starter, bang: 14.4. I now have 4 more of the same 200hp seapro motors on my boats, so we'll see how this goes moving forward. I know some other guys ran v8 coneheads out to 4000hrs and one set to 7000hrs, that's incredible.
Keep in mind our boats aren't doing 70+mph, we like to sit at 4000-43000rpm doing 30ish knots, we won't run them wide open for any real length of time...
Had Gen 1 Verado and the 175 did had sludge in the supercharger so they had the issue also
Love my 98 150 optimax... runs my nitro 185 fs good..... Andy has sold me on Suzuki when I repower
My 2011 250 SHO with a 2016 powerhead blew up last week. 190hrs.
Dude, dude, dude, dude……. You have to do a video on the Underboard. All kidding aside, being a Florida resident I’ll never ever see one. And please please please show us the bilge pump inside of the underboard cowling. I am really interested to learn and see this thing and you’re my only hope! Please, dudes, do a video on it!
Repower January to 250 pro xs hope no issues 🤞🏻🤞🏻
1996 Merc blackmax 135hp, man it socks on gas but she runs great.
Mercury 2017 Pro XS 225 2 stroke, good, what issues I need to watch out for?
Can you guys get motors, in any kind of timely manor? Need to replace a motor on a high school team boat. 200 horsepower.
Hey what you think about a Yamaha 2006 model 115 2 stroke do you think it a good motor and do you think the auto lube system a good system
Great vid-Love my ZX250 W/Yamaha 250 SHO. It will get me home. LOL
You got anything to say about 04 250 Vmax 3.1 ox66 , putting one on my 99 champ 202 , let me know if I made a bad choice
I checked my v6 200hp conehead motors, every starter is solid mounted? Is the rubber mount a pro XS thing?!
Manufacturers should take note of such mechanics
Question .... 2017 yamaha f150 lower unit. Say I drop it off and tell u wamt a brand new one. nobody deals what s it going to cost these days??
My buddies 2021 pro xs had a wire harness plug or jack plug what ever you might want to call come loose and melt and motor wouldn’t start . And I purchased a 2016 skeeter with a 250 SHO and my drive shaft broke in half just above the pinion gear . Unknown use from previous owner though . Insurance came through like a champ over payed for new Yamaha gear case with new prop 😎😎 . But I drive full send every day so we will see how the new one works
Could u talk about smaller motors. I have a 1988 Johnson gt 100 2 stroke still running strong. If I repower my motor what about a Suzuki 90 hp
great vid. BUT what bout the EFI Merc @ strokes>>>>>>?
I had 04 F150 with the balancer issue. Replaced balancer, then plastic from balancer wear went down into oil, plugged filter, and obliterated the cam on the 3rd beep.
So true, finally fixed it, I have the 2012
Any comments on the sea pros mercury with the blue crowlings commercial ones the 4 strokes
Thinking about repowering my 20 foot pontoon, on the Delta out of Sacramento. Follow up service was stressed in most of your videos. Suzuki dealers are almost to Oregon, and 200 miles south of San Jose. 93 70hp Evinrude on it now 17 mph... Lots of 150 merks, yamaha's and older Evinrudes, on similar Pontoons. Like the warranty of Suzuki???? Why do they make a 140 and a 150? What should the total package cost, UN UN installed. Controls, motor, and what ever you would recommend. 115 , 140 or 150 long shaft 25" . Can you sell me and ship to California ? Or pick up in Minnesota ?
Bass boat central is where i found my bass boat at 11pm one night 😂
Need a decal worth a shit that says "Speed, Money, NO BRAKES BABY", in old school scripts. I'd buy it and rock it all the way down here in North Carolina.
Can you please tell which model years I should avoid ?....(mercury)
98 evinrude ficht 150 oil coming out the propeller any idea why
Thanks for the video. Is this valid for the smaller outboard s like the 115s?
From what was on a previous video the smaller engines are not having issues. I don’t know of anyone having problems with a mercury 115.
Honda. Awesome. Mine is 20 years old. Still runs like a top
I have a 200 etech on my 2007 stratos. So far only issues ive had are with the starters. I replaced 3 total, and 2 in a 6 month span. Did have to replace the lower unit, but she has some hours on her too 😂
I have a 2017 etec and have gone through 3 starters the last 3 years.
@@timcelesti5321 yeah those starters are junk for real
How are the 2024+ merc pro xs (300/300r)?
what about the lower units on the Mercury 4 stroke????2001???
New Yamahas still experiencing exhaust corrosion.
Just happened on 2017 f150 with 800hrs. Meticulously maintained.
Great video!🤣😂
Thanks 😅
my 03 Yammie 50 is still running strong. developed a noise almost like a serpentine belt in need of being replaced but it hasnt seemed to affect anything
Any problems with the carbs ? Mines a pain in the butt
Also mines a 4 stroke
I was there for the release of carbureted four strokes, ficht, hpdi, optiflops and whatever else garbage the epa forced upon us, at a dealership that sold them all. ALL of them were complete shit upon release.
Good video! Yep I’m pissed Evinrude is gone 😞 Did you notice you never had much bad to say about the Evinrude G2😆. The steering issues were mostly on the early stuff. The last rendition of that motor is really, really, really good! Keep the content coming 👍🏻
I have 2014 G2 - other than the early steering issues been at great engine. Only 650hrs so far but. 1000plus hours on my 40hp 2006 G1. Mad solid engine.
The mid 90s evinrudes were bulletproof. Loved them. The intruders were amazing.
@@dlaird8you couldn’t blow an intruder up if you tried! But the G2 was garbage, every single person i know who has or HAD a 200 - 250 G2 put multiple powerheads on each, and the rest had one powerhead done and then repowered… the only outlier is my F.I.L has one 200 that’s still holding strong….. but he only had about 16 hours on it LOL spends most of his time on mine instead.
1984 E25RCRD still running strong.
@@danieldix7669 I think you’re talking about the first generation E-Tec. The power heads on the G2 are really good. I personally don’t know of any in my area that have blown up. And even if you look online there isint much at all for power head failures. The G1 and G2 are much different
Love my Yamaha sho.
You covered Verado L6, did not mention the smaller L4’s?
I am here in LaCrosse and I see alot of mid sized engines on Tin boats (like mine) and pontoons.
I run a 2004 Merc 115 4 stroke.
What is your opinion on the mid sized engines being I have one and alot of Tin boat fishermen and Pontoon family's run mid sized. All brands Merc. Honda. Yamaha. Suzuki. Ect.
Great video Jordan talking about older motors for the people that watch Andy's videos every Fri. I have a 1998 VMAX 3.1 OX66 and original owner. Sank it in a tournament, got it rebuilt an barley got it broke it an my son committed suicide. It's been sitting in my garage for 5 yrs since his passing away. Can you Ask Andy if that 1998 was a good motor? I've never had any issues with it.
The OX motors were great! 💪🏻
@TeamMarineService Thanks for the feed back brother. Hope y'all all have a Great Weekend 👍
Sorry to hear of your loss man. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Life’s not fair brother. I hope you can bring yourself to fish again. Mother Nature is nourishing and she can help heal you. God bless.
@@789Derek Ya nailed it! We are all rooting for ya @codyhooser3333. Stay strong brother!
I never saw a Optimax alternator belt / bracket not fail!
Great insight. I guess I’ll stick to my 2010 opti or switch to Suzuki when the time comes
😆 who caught that little bass? We put those back here in Georgia.
What about the efi mercs like xr6 and others
What's my future motor problems, Andy? 2022 200hp ProXS V8 4stroke
do the newer gen 1 etec that don't have the american flag graphics have the same issues mentioned?
My 98 150hp vmax wont die, i brap it hard all the time and it just keeps going. Besides maintenance, i Haven't done a single thing.
1972 kichiffer mercury straight 6 two stroke all USA balls
i keep hearing the latest suzuki 150/175/200 , lower unit pinion are breaking apart
I assume you know the first Yamaha where directly copied from OMC v 4and v6 right down to the casting#
2014 Yamaha 250 Off Shore 850 hrs !! Nothing but a timing belt so far. It’s an amazing motor ! There’s a reason when you go to places like Florida that have more boaters than anybody all you see is Yamaha and Suzuki !
What about the Merc Pro Xb?
I have a 2019 (pre covid) 115 pro xs. What’s the biggest thing to look for that y’all might be seeing?
A 115 has been around forever, they last a very long time just by doing your regular maintenance.
Andy - what’s your opinion on the Mercury 2.1L platform (75,90 and 115hp)? Are there many issues or are they pretty decent outboards?
For what it's worth, I have the 2.1 75hp and it seems to have no more power than 50hp 2 strokes that I have owned. The problem is that it has all of the weight of the 115 but they just detune the computer so that it stays well under 5000 rpms.
I have a 2018 115 merc pro xs with about 300 hrs with out a hicup yet. What kind of issues are yall seeing with the 115?
Had to replace an ignition coil on mine
I have a 2023 Alumacraft Trophy White 150 Suzuki. Feel it’s under proforming. I get 43mph with a Watergrip 15x21 at 6000 rpm.
Probably about what it should b3
Merc 600hps have sensor errors... loss power issues.
New merc V8 need to add shift actuator as an issue.
I never hear you mention the Mercury EFI 3.0 . What are your thoughts on it ?
Great engine, I ran 25 years on one but it drank oil and gas. Running a Suzuki 250ss now and never been happier, incredibly smooth and sips gas.
2002 carberated Honda 15 never had a problem with it other than paint peeling off the cover.
Had a 25 Honda tiller. 3 carbs and most of them had the cracks down the jet tubes. Very sensitive the float level adjustment
So the supreme burrito court just struck down “Chevron Deference” which gave the EPA the ability to dick up our engines. Hopefully now manufacturers can go back to 1980 and make a solid engine that a man can actually work on.
Heat soak issues on the early 2005 Yamaha i4 F150.
Thousands of hours on one with no problems
02-07 balance shaft don’t apply to V6 motors
What is the best new 350hp? I'm leaning toward the suzuki.
How do I get a 2x shirt ?
Was thinking about going 4 Rotax underboards on my center console, that would be sick.
🤣🤣🤣
@@TeamMarineServiceyou skipped honda?
What was the last year of the good optimal? 05 to ?
Optimax
2013 yamaha 200hp 700+ hours. being smashed accross lake ERIE ZERO ISSUES...........
How detuned is a 99 mercury 225 compared to newer models ?
The 1st generation opti max was nick named opti pop for a dang good reason. Mercury replaced thousands of those powerheads. Many...multiple times.
Are the Honda's just that good that you never mentioned them?
what about Honda???
650 hours on my 12 honda 250 not one problem just change the oil .
You never mentioned the Evinrude direct injection 2004 HO . That motor is probably the best motor Evinrude ever built
Hello. I have owned OMC Evinrude and Johnson Outboards from 5.5 , 9.9, 10, 70, 85 , 115, & a couple XP 200 . All great running Outboards. Never Owned Ficht Or Etec
Yes they were good... but the best, nahh.
The venoms, vindicators, silver star series, fast strikes, were the best 150+hp motors omc ever made. No doubt.
My opinion a 2.5 260/280 drag is the best motors merc ever made..... but hey, I love that racket.
What causes corrosion on the bolts on lower unit on an ultrex trolling motor
What about Honda ? You said Honda at the beginning then nothing?????
Honda is actually made by tohatsu . Most people don’t know that every brand 50 hp and under is made in a tohatsu factory. Facts
Hahaha, Honda make the larger tohatsu engine. Not the other way.
@@Skits_Missions it’s a Honda v6 block in the 250 .Everything else in that motor is actually tohatsu engineered . Sorry we own a dealership in Massachusetts you’re wrong. Honda just assembles the motors
@@petejablowski2123 😂🤣
Honda sucks
Suzuki for the win. I repowerd my boat with a brand new Suzuki df225 in 2015. Way before I subscribe to this channel. Just the little bit of research I did. I knew that's what I wanted to spend my hard earned money on.
Yamaha first Gen 4 strokes, voltage regulator fails stranding you without warning.
