Hey Larry, welcome back! Just started a new job as a quant dev in risk visualization and modeling for an energy/capital markets firm recently. They loved some of the portfolio projects I built inspired in part by concepts from your videos. Great practical content you put out there and super helpful for developers getting into the finance side of things!
Thank you Lary for this general overview. I would appreciate more general industry and general practice informatiion like this. I'm new to algotrading, and this video was such a big eye opener to understand where i am standing in the map of field of algotrading.
Thrilled that Hummingbot is included in the list. I am actively using it for 15 months now. Its awesome especially when used with Liquidity miner platform, which has many campaigns that distribute weekly rewards.
Thank you, I loved both Madrid and Lisbon! Had so much fun at La Coquette blues bar and Intruso in Madrid, among other places. Will most likely be going back to Lisbon for a while at some point, it seems like everyone is going there lately :)
Hey Larry!! Was waiting for you and really looking forward for freqtrade serie… i started using it more then a year ago but I then abandoned to develop my own staff!! I did without a good knowledge of python and was so difficult, not it’s time to come back also thanks to you!! Great trip through Europe… if I can suggest where to move, with your skills… Netherlands 🇳🇱!! If you pass by I got a very good beer waiting for you… or some Italian wine maybe (since I expat from Italy!!) cheers 🍻 Marcello
Love your brilliant content, Larry. Could you do a video / series on comparing various Alpaca Connected Apps such as Streak, Breaking Equity, CandleX, QuantFu, etc? They supposedly enable algo trading without the need for coding - I wonder how robust these platforms are.
I most likely won't cover these since I want my channel to remain coding focused. There are many other channels that do demos of no-code / push button solutions, so don't think I provide much benefit there.
Thanks, I have added this to my list. I do think the channel will have a long machine learning phase in the future. I need to do some more study to be able to put together some interesting projects here and be able to explain them.
So glad to hear about this new series! Thank you. In advance question for freqtrade: is it possible to implement grid bot for this framework? I have a few pseudocode ideas how to improve standard grid bot, would love to discuss if you have time and interest.
Hey Larry! Still loving your content! Have you heard of tradologics? It’s by the same guy who made yfinance and quantstats. Just came across it and thought you would find it interesting. Hope all is well!
I saw it on his page, but haven't looked at it yet. It does look interesting. Looks like it is in private beta at the moment though, so maybe I will wait until a public release.
I've been trying to install Linux on WSL2 on a secondary SSD drive so I can install Freqtrade. It's really the only way I am able to do it. It's been a colossal pain in my ass. Finally got to the point where I was able to install Freqtrade on my Linux installation on my secondary drive and all of a sudden WSL2 decides to not recognize the linux installation. Gonna try it one more time and give up.
Every time I look into the space, I find a bunch of projects that are dead or near-death. As an example, backtrader seems to need a bunch of undocumented duct-tape fixes, and the repo itself doesn't seem to be merging simple PR's for over a year. It's sad because making a backtesting platform is a huge undertaking, and although I've started doing just that, every time I see how much code and functionality is nominally in any of the semi-dead projects, I'm discouraged.
I looked at most of the popular ones a year ago and came to the same conclusion. Either projects died, cost a lot of monthly fees to actually use properly because the basic fee was just too bare minimum or were broken/not properly documented/useless. Making your own is only beneficial if you already know design strategies/architecture design and coding. I feel you mate
Larry! What happened to the Freqtrade video posted yesterday? I was watching it and it disappeared while I was just a few minutes in. I didn't even get to see what kind of burrito you got from Chipotle, lol.
Hmm...I have thought about setting up a separate channel to discuss other topics, since this one is finance / coding focused and I have some other interesting life things to talk about. I feel like there are enough channels about digital nomad topics at this point though. Perhaps I have worked from home so many years that it doesn't seem that novel anymore? Do you think there is another angle to cover here? I talked about some recent travel at the end of this one since it had been a while since I posted a video. Maybe I will talk about my most recent trip at the end of my next video and see if anyone watches that far and I'll get some feedback about it. I think I am going to eventually have a separate channel where I talk about AI / ML outside of finance, so maybe I will share more other life stuff there.
@@parttimelarry For me, it’s interesting because of your background and perspective as a developer and taking that angle as a digital nomad. So it’s in that context of your knowledge in finance and tech, that makes your opinion interesting. That’s what differentiates I think.
Not sure about other software, but I use ScreenFlow and it lets you crop, round corners, and apply effects to any layer of the recording. Got tired of having my windows / couch in the background. Still need to get better at editing since I wanted to insert a cool backdrop, but the lighting made it look strange :)
@@1skeeta4u I have created many bots on this channel. Creating a more generalized framework that I document and maintain personally would take too much time. Sort of ties into the pros and cons I go into on the video, seems better for me to contribute to the existing communities and projects.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by third party scams? They use most of the same tools I use: python, pandas, matplotlib, ccxt. They are all open source and support a variety of brokers and exchanges. They all require me to write code, they just provide a development structure / framework as described in the video. Perhaps you are getting these confused with other types of bots that are not made for developers.
I had one public for a while, but have had mixed feelings whether to share more personal stuff on the channel. Also I got a lot of Instagram DM's with people sending me their code at 2am, which I didn't want lol. I think I will set one up again for this purpose though....
As discussed in the video, I am referring to some of the libraries in this case. These have been forked as zipline-reloaded, pyfolio-reloaded, etc. for newer versions of Python. I discuss the acquisition/shutdown of Quantopian in the video.

Hell yeah, congrats!
Can you name the firm?
Sorry don't want to post in public and get doxxed on LinkedIn lol, but you can dm me (at) machdragon to talk on it more
Literally a dream job of mine at the moment with zero education but ill get there one day, hows your career nowadays brother?
Good to have you back dude. Was beginning to suffer from a little ‘Part-Time’ withdrawal symptoms!
Thanks Larry, this looks great! Excited to watch these future videos.

Interesting stuff👍. Looking forward to the upcoming vids😊!
Finally dude, been waiting for this type of content. More of your root type of content (IB, generating signals)
Cool. I will wait to see what hype over Quantconnect Lean engine is all about. I heard so much about it all over the place
Great video Larry. All your work is high quality.
Looking forward to the new content - all the crypto bot frameworks I want to learn. Glad you had a good time abroad.
Such a great video answering the question of "is a trading framework right for you?". Objective overview, with detailed cons and pros 👍

Woooouuuuuu beep beeppp Happy about what is coming!!!!!!
I hope you enjoyed Spain! I’m an avid follower from Madrid living in Lisbon. Best place to be right now! Crypto friendly, too! 🎉

I don't think freqtrade lends itself to this kind of strategy. I think it is best to code grid bot from scratch, which I have already done :)
Any popular frameworks for Futures? (Or reasons why I shouldn't be in futures?)
I was searching your channel for freqtrade video you was going to make, but couldn't find it.

Welcome back, Larry. What do you think about the backtesting.py framework? Thanks for the Info.
Haven't tried this one yet. I think the solutions I am about to discuss are more full-featured though.
I think it is not maintained anymore?
Maybe it is a fork, it's not clear - it says, "Improved upon the vision of Backtrader"
How did you make your overlay have rounded corners 😳 🤔
