    Brandon you do an outstanding job on your engine parts and video productions. You possess a great blend of technical skill, humor and the ability to teach. You, of all people, never have to worry about "professionalism". Every thing you do demonstrates of your experience, education, safety conscious work habits and high degree of skill. It is impossible for me to understand how anybody could possibly dislike one of your videos. Thank you for your effort. You absolutely ROCK!

    FYI for anyone trying to do this repair at home. My local hardware store didn't have all thread in correct thread to substitute for the OMC guide pins. Found that a single 1/4-28 x 3" bolt with the head cut off works to align bearing carrier with the ring. Hint, after cutting off the bolt head cut a slot in the end with a hacksaw and a long screwdriver allows install/remove. Was a bit fiddly but the single "guide pin" got the job done.

    Brandon, I have been working on my motor for several days, going by this tutorial. It was difficult, and slow going, mostly because I would forget some of the steps when I didn't want to touch my ipad with greasy hands. I was able to fashion some of the pullers from materials I had on hand, even made a wooden seal seater on my lathe. But thanks for the help!

    Best video on oil seal replacement I've seen.
    I'm going to buy a few tools, make/modify some I have and improvise the guides and then take a shot at doing my '82 Evinrude 50 HP that the local shop doesn't want to touch.
    Thanks for explaining the procedure that an MMI trained wrench said was 'to difficult' for me to attempt, this should be a breeze.

      Well, this was a 3 cylinder engine, yours is a 2. Probably different tools.
      One problem you'll have is with pulling the bearing carrier, 320737 Puller Legs are very hard to come by.
      For the tools, use this page: everythingoutboards.com/brp/toolsbyyear/1982.html
      and go to 50 HP. It'll list all the tools for your engine.

    Great video! It helped tremendously.
    FYI, I used a flexible gripper tool (mechanical pickup) for retrieving and placing the bolts down inside the bearing carrier. it worked perfectly. It also works well to retrieve the socket when it falls off the extension! I also made some gadgets to seat the seals and used a drill press with a rugged rack & pinion to press the seals in place. It all went well so far. Planning final re-assembly tomorrow.
    I have a question regarding re-assembly. What do you use to seal the entire surface of the lower unit casting when mating with the motor? Gasket sealer? Other?
    I am also curious how you access and disconnect the shift rod. On my 1988 Evinrude 50 it required removing a lot from the top end and still was working half blind to get to that silly little fitting.

    Great video, Brandon! I'm fixing my 3 cyl 75 from 1978 and I'm having an issue putting back the bearing housing. I've pushed it quite hard with a mallet and a piece of wood, but the four screws don't reach the tread. I'm using guiding pins and the original screws. I guess the bearing housing is not seated correctly. There's nothing obstructing it. Would you just push it harder? or could it be something else? thanks!

    • @ct1762
      @ct1762 2 роки тому

      if it idles well and has minimal to no scoring, i wouldnt go replacing rings. motor might not come apart without many broken screws, and honing these crossflows is NOT recommended if you want it to last. bore by a reputable outboard shop (not an auto mechanic that "knows" car engines therefore is an "expert" in 2 strokes), and new OS pistons/rings, but then you might not be able to find them anymore.

I can't remember before I removed the screw I mentioned wether the dente ball bearings locks the gear shaft forward and reverse or just reverse?
